I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

It's total car crash tv.. can't not watch but cringing every ep ... don't mind harry and Charlotte and fam but Harry's full frontal just no!!!!

Find che irritating but agree with pp don't buy them as a couple in the slightest. They have fallen in love very quickly.

Feel so sorry for Steve.. and the episode where they were trying to reignite the spark in the kitchen and he was asking if it was right. They make him out this hard of hearing bumbling idiot.. Steve's a catch. Too good for her!!!

Its just all total cringe

user1471543094 · 23/01/2022 07:57

When Miranda was in the taxi talking to Carrie saying "I didn't blame him or make him feel bad" I was shouting at the TV "Because it's not his fault!!*

The whole divorce chat was weird.
Even when Miranda told the girls at lunch it was treated very lightly. It was like she just said she was gonna tell him she was heading away for the weekend.

ExtremelyDetermined · 23/01/2022 08:05

It certainly was cringey this week, Miranda totally out of place at the rally and not being able to walk properly in her heels, the way she told Steve as if it was a trivial matter.

Throwing herself after Che who I very much doubt wants a committed relationship and had seized upon Miranda being married as the ideal excuse to avoid one. Then chasing after Che. And yet it's compulsive viewing.

hopeishere · 23/01/2022 08:19

My problem is they are trying to rattle through too many things without going into any depth with them. So this weekend it was Lily and Insta, previously the trans child. There's no real exploration of those issues. The Miranda storyline is the central one more so than Carrie becoming a widow. And the constant WE ARE OLD signposting is ridiculous.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 23/01/2022 08:20

I think people are watching/hate watching due to SATC being so huge at the time. It was a part of my school days, we all used to come in and talk about it. It was different than other things on at tv at the time. That's why I'm still grudgingly watching even though I hate it.

If AJLT had been a standalone show it would've been panned more than it is now!

GellerYeller · 23/01/2022 15:46

Like the Cold Feet reboot, I'm enjoying knowing that these characters are still out there and seeing what they are up to. Even if we don't always like how that plays out (the woke signposting, Samantha being absent in London, Che and Miranda etc.).
I've also liked nice little callbacks to earlier episodes like Carrie's name necklace or the incidental music being the same as in the film. Overall I think we've got such familiarity with the older series bring repeated so often that it's hard to engage with AJLT.
I do think it's improved from the first episode to now. I'd like another series actually.

southeastdweller · 23/01/2022 15:51

Yes, the nostalgia aspect is huge. But when it ends next month, I doubt I’ll feel sad about it.

foxlover47 · 23/01/2022 16:56

I wondered if they were playing Steve as getting settled and taking it for granted now , they were happy In his eyes there was no more fighting to keep them together etc .. it's sad though because they really mugged him off with the market scene , made him look a forgetful fool bumbling about and the prof husband all sexy and cool. Steve was cool wasnt he ?!!
The new neighbour is almost like a young Carrie , cool, trendy ,dating the bad guy bla bla ..
as for Miranda , I feel she's gonna walk into her own - Sobcom because I feel Chez's unconventional would be a open thing and they aren't a one woman person

Reading through all the comments a possible starting point for Season 2 has occurred to me...

In this season Harry dies from cancer, not picked up following missed appointment. Che and Miranda are the disaster that many of you have predicted, leaving them all single and back to where they were in the SATC days for the next season. Hope I'm wrong about Harry.

sansucre · 23/01/2022 21:51

With Big dying on the show, and Willie Garson (Stanford) dying in real life, I sincerely doubt they're going to kill off Harry just yet - Harry missing the colonoscopy appointment was a mcguffin.

QueenBodicea · 23/01/2022 23:23

Well I've just learned what a "mcguffin" is. Had not heard the expression before, dates back to Alfred Hitchcock! Sansucre, I hope you are right.

dayswithaY · 24/01/2022 07:39

They certainly dropped enough clues about Harry's health so I can see that happening. But they mustn't go too hard on the misery and heartache as not sure if the show can carry two grieving widows.

I'm guessing Aidan will appear in the final scene as the cliffhanger. Harry dies during sex with Charlotte. Che shrugs and walks away from Miranda with hands in pockets.

sansucre · 24/01/2022 17:15

@QueenBodicea Hitchcock (and his films) might just be my specialist subject Wink

SpanishFly · 25/01/2022 09:59

I said the same last week re the way Miranda walks. It's so gangly and awkward, but even more so when she's next to Carrie, who is so graceful.

I agree re miranda - she'll see something she doesn't want to when she arrives to surprise Che.

Steve was heartbreaking in the breakup scene. All the "I've always been there when you doubted me then crawled back" etc 😔

Doubleraspberry · 25/01/2022 13:03

I think Miranda's utter lack of interest in or concern for Brady was just really hard to believe when she left. I can't think of a single mother who would detonate their marriage at no notice and just walk out without even talking to their child.

LondonWolf · 25/01/2022 13:53

I found Miranda's interactions with Brady odd full stop. She seems as though she actually can't stand him.
AntAndDecking · 25/01/2022 20:30

I think the only bit I’ve enjoyed was Miranda and Carrie’s astonishment that Charlotte still blew Harry. That felt like old times.

To be honest despite what non-binary people might like to think I don’t think there is a lot of depth to being non-binary.

Agree. I've done my grieving.
AsYouWishButtercup · 25/01/2022 21:29

YY to Miranda’s relationship with Brady - it seems they’ve decided that whilst Charlotte’s girls have “ishoos”, the teenage boy’s depth is that he’s a sex obsessed mute. How refreshing Hmm

I bet a tenner that the only reference to Brady and the divorce will be either Carrie or Charlotte asking Miranda at the coffee shop “How is Brady taking the news” and Miranda will be all “Oh you know Brady, all he cares about is masturbating, he barely even noticed Steve’s gone”

SpanishFly · 25/01/2022 21:34

Charlotte has always been an overactor, it's nothing new. I don't think it's any worse than before.

LemonCake79 · 26/01/2022 22:46

I'm enjoying it. It's no SATC and I miss Samantha but it's worth watching.

I couldn't bear it if they killed Harry off. He's a great character and Charlotte had her share of heartbreak with Trey.

WentworthMillerMad · 27/01/2022 07:21

I am enjoying it, I love seeing Carrie again and being in her apartment again and looking at her outfits again!
Agreed it’s a travesty the was they have portrayed Steve, but I am loving the new characters and the glamour of the show!
Makes me want to plan a trip to New York City!

I hope in season 2 they give the storylines a bit more depth.

5thHelena · 27/01/2022 07:24

Have to disagree with this. She used to have much more range than this. What about that scene where she loses the baby and Harry has asked Carrie to come round? That was pitch perfect...

I was glad they've made it of the time and address issues etc of today but it feels like they're cramming in everything they can. As if they're just doing it to cover bases and not to really further story lines meaningfully
NewYearNewMinty · 27/01/2022 08:24

I don't think they'll kill off Harry, but whatever the issue is, it'll affect their sex life, which is clearly still good.

They haven't dealt with that aspect of middle aged relationships yet.
