I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

I felt so awful for Steve who was clearly blindsided; I too am after a comfortable, safe and reliable marriage long term! My exciting days are behind me.

DaggerIsle · 21/01/2022 21:52

I think the issue is that Miranda didn't give Steve any hints they had marriage breaking issues.
They were amiably sharing chia seeds and foreign Netflix shows- when she told they had problems he thought she was joking!

bestbefore · 21/01/2022 23:24

@HeyGirlHeyBoy I don't know! I'm re watching the old ones and I'm only up to the bit where she and Steve have just got together - and of course she's all snooty with him then as well and reluctantly allows him to stay over.
In the past I have watched all of the episodes but I can't remember the detail of their wedding or BradyBradyHobbes Confused being born. Smile

AllyBama · 22/01/2022 07:43

I’m worried because Cynthia Nixon is directing, she has absolutely no insight into how all this is coming off. How absolutely fucking awful Miranda has become. I feel like CN is just making us just watch a stylized version of her own life, not how Miranda’s life should have turned out. And when she was in the cab saying to Carrie ‘I’m in a rom-com!’, I was thinking… oh my god… does she think we’re going to be cheering her on at this point? For cheating on her husband, treating him like shit and only dumping him when she got verbal confirmation from Che of their feelings? Does she really not realise what a colossal arsehole she is?

stringbean · 22/01/2022 08:18

I'm really annoyed at how Steve has been portrayed in this show. He used to be really sociable and popular - I can remember a comment in SATC about how he used to get lots of female attention 'because I'm cute and run a bar'. I can understand him wanting quiet evenings if he has hearing loss: it's exhausting trying to concentrate and follow conversations when you're hard of hearing, so he's probably shattered in the evenings. They've made him so one dimensional: he's been reduced to deaf = old and doddery and past-it - it's just lazy cliched writing. Given the number of people in the UK with hearing loss (something like 1 in 6 - probably similar in the US), it's astonishing how little airtime it's given, and how few deaf characters appear on TV: so to have someone of 55 with hearing loss portrayed so negatively is pretty offensive.

LondonWolf · 22/01/2022 08:30

@MiniCooperLover

I admire her for standing up for 'more' to Steve. He's actually like he's bloody 85/90 not 55 and frankly I've known some fantastic 85 year olds who put him to shame. I'm praying she doesn't go back to that.
That she is treating him like complete shit is my problem here. All these years together, family home etc. Even after that, she's sitting giggling that she's "in a rom com" in a taxi on the way to the airport. I admit though that she's portraying very well, the coldness and selfishness of such people who shag around and throw hand grenades into the lives of their loved ones because they're all excitable about their new squeeze.

I feel like Miranda has to get some kind of payback for that but with CN at the helm, seemingly have made this her own personal vanity project I'm doubtful.

And I will say it, Che wouldn't be interested in Miranda. Che is an irritating character but I can see the attraction physically (and I am totes straight!) and I think they'd be getting massive attention and beating beautiful young things over with a stick.

Young woman downstairs clearly representing Young Carrie right? Right down to the curly hair and the wondering how she can afford the apartment? Grin Maybe to explore how relationships and dating how changed since SATC?

I really hope there's another series.

LondonWolf · 22/01/2022 08:31

Off not over

vjg13 · 22/01/2022 08:54

I hope it continues, it's crap in parts, very annoying, clunky etc but I am still enjoying it.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 22/01/2022 09:05

I don't think we're meant to be cheering jer on. Carriebwas shocked when she said she was in a cab and replied 'whoever you are'. I am hoping against hope that they are seeing it as we are. Yes the selfishness is captured well.

dayswithaY · 22/01/2022 10:56

And I will say it, Che wouldn't be interested in Miranda. Che is an irritating character but I can see the attraction physically (and I am totes straight!) and I think they'd be getting massive attention and beating beautiful young things over with a stick.

This in spades. Che would not choose to spend her life with a 55 year old woman who has lived her life as a married corporate lawyer. Miranda has no understanding of who Che is or the life they lead. Che would be with someone who shares and understands their core beliefs. And is also young, hot, political, energetic. This is Cynthia Nixon's romcom fantasy but it bears no relation to who Miranda is.

I really liked the fact that Che didn't want to be a homewrecker, but they will misjudge the audience if they show them sailing into the sunset together (maybe they don't care about their old audience?)

Steve has been portrayed horribly - he's old and boring and wears hearing aids so it's fine for Miranda to leave him. In the world of fifty something singles, he would get snapped up!

Also, Miranda told him she'd met someone but we didn't see his reaction. Surely he would assume she was leaving him for a man.

Drunkpanda · 22/01/2022 11:21

Steve may be portrayed negatively so far, but I suspect he will come into his own as a single man.

sociallydistained · 22/01/2022 11:26

[quote LoveMae]I completely agree that we haven't seen enough of Che to understand or appreciate them, so I was pleased when they were shocked Miranda wasn't in an open marriage.

Carrie in the dress

CarrieSadshaw · 22/01/2022 11:44

Honestly Miranda could have a more fun life with Steve. Why did they never go out for dinner or a show instead of being couch potatoes? She never suggested it.

Che is the single worst character on TV on the last decade and I expect Miranda to find her in bed wt a 20 yr old man when she gets to Cleveland

LondonWolf · 22/01/2022 11:48

Agree. He's a catch! Not bad looking, funny, kind, financially solvent, own cool bar in NYC! no real baggage because he's pretty well adjusted.

Miranda is a fool!

RadioSixMusicLover · 22/01/2022 11:52

I like it. It’s escapism for me, I watch it while I’m drying my hair. It’s entertainment, not high art.

Purpleraspberry · 22/01/2022 11:57

@Drunkpanda

Yes, I am thinking that maybe now he is single we will see another side of him, a more energetic and less all-over-the-place Steve. I am wondering if we end up seeing him living his best life and even meeting someone when it all blows up between Miranda and Che...

As a pp said, I am not sure if things will blow up between Miranda and Che given it is Cynthia Nixon who has wrote and directed it with an obvious agenda.

NewYearNewMinty · 22/01/2022 13:17

I don't dislike Che, and could relate to Miranda up to a point, but the way she was so pleased with herself after asking Steve for a divorce, with no concern for him of Brady changed my mind.

Che warned her she wasn't up for anything conventional and don't think Miranda has thought through what that might mean. I suspect Che will want an open relationship wher she can sleep with other people of all genders and Miranda won't be able to cope with that.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 22/01/2022 14:12

I gave up just not enjoying. I dislike them all. Carrie was always annoying as was Charlotte but they’ve ruined Miranda. Steve acts about 80 and it’s just not so fun without Samatha.

Andylion · 22/01/2022 16:17

I am wondering if we end up seeing him living his best life and even meeting someone when it all blows up between Miranda and Che.

I hope they don’t just write him out. That would really piss me off.

QueefofSheena · 22/01/2022 16:28

One of the things that irked me about the neighbour was that she’s new, so the ‘nice big apartment’ had been available. Carrie could have bought it if she liked it so much and used her apartment as a wardrobe/place to write. But that wouldn’t have shoehorned the hip young neighbour in.

MondayYogurt · 22/01/2022 17:23

It's a hate watch for me now.
Che Díaz is the worst character on TV right now.

LoveMae · 22/01/2022 19:24

So many people saying they're hate watching! Why... surely just watch something you like?

After not liking the first few episodes I'm so into it now!

LoveMae · 22/01/2022 19:25

Oh and Charlotte smashing her daughters head into the door made me roar with laughter Grin

merrygoround23 · 22/01/2022 19:26

Still not enjoying it but getting my
Moneys worth for paying for NOW tv. I did like the part where Che was upset with Miranda for not explaining she was married

CoolShoeshine · 22/01/2022 20:46

Just seen this weeks episode… Harry’s jumbo sausage lol.
I actually love Charlotte, Harry and family. Don’t think Charlotte is a wooden character, she’s always been the more uptight one.

Pretty ironic how Che said I’m not a marriage wrecker- then told Miranda to dump her husband if she wants them to be together. Also why would you assume someone was in an open marriage rather than cheating? Durr

Poor Steve. Clearly Miranda would have been content with him and their marriage had she have not met Che. Poor Brady too - Miranda has not given him a second thought and he’s only a kid really. I’d pick my 17 year old over any great relationship.

I’m half wondering if this might lead to a shocking killing off of Steve??

Hoping that the introduction of new downstairs neighbour at such a late stage in the series means that the show is going to continue.
