I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

I thought they had food poisoning for a second but it was booze-related?
Surely doesn't happen that abruptly to 2 people at the same time?

I can imagine if you’re feeling similarly queasy that someone throwing up near you could make you throw up ??

Newgirls · 13/01/2022 18:43

He threw up from too much alcohol, which made her throw up

I found Charlottes rant believable. It was her world and he was bossing her around. Though she could have said that.

ChiaraRimini · 13/01/2022 18:55

I was mulling it over and I don't think the couplings are realistic in the slightest. I reckon in real life

Charlotte (WASP princess) would have married Big (WASP -remember his mother? )

Miranda (sarcastic lawyer) would have married Harry (also sarcastic lawyer)

Carrie (fashion/appearance obsessed airhead) would have married Smith (hot but also airhead) or similar

Samantha would have married Richard and they would have been cultural leaders of the NY swinging scene Grin

DillDanding · 13/01/2022 21:00

The tennis scene was so bad. A 10-year-old director could have made it look more convincing.

LoveMae · 13/01/2022 21:37

What is a wasp? I tried to google with no luck Blush

LoveMae · 13/01/2022 21:39

I keep moaning about how woke it is, but that aside, I'm really enjoying it and look forward to each episode! I feel it's got in its stride now.

Thoughts:

*Big masturbating scene- vom

*Carrie would never do that podcast/need to/want to

*Miranda's having a mid life crisis and as gross as it is, I think it's realistic

*Except she would never have been so selfish to have that sex scene, which I thought was both hot and gross at the same time, and also hilarious, but also so sad

*Also, as if she'd let Brody behave like that- just why?!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/01/2022 22:50

So Che didn't even reply but is now in love.. Hmm The tennis was silly but plenty of signs of the old them. Carrie and Anthony are the best for me. Loved carrie in the cream and black dress Star

DillDanding · 13/01/2022 23:24

I find the sartorial choices in this reboot very distracting. Not in a good way.

They need to stop dressing Charlotte as though she’s as slim as she was 20 years ago. Squeezing her into dresses 2 sizes too small is not a good look. Also, the fillers in her face seem to have affected her speech (and acting ability).

SJP is a stunning woman. She has glorious, flattering hair. Scraped back into a severe bun, it does nothing for her.

Che and Miranda - yuck. Why have they made Steve act 85 years old? So we don’t resent Miranda for her guilt free infidelity?

The vomiting scene made me laugh out loud. So there is hope…

WASP = white ango-Saxon person. Like a posh affluent toff. Old money. Has a summer home in the Hamptons etc.

They are fab.

RoyKentsChestHair · 13/01/2022 23:54

@LovedayCL

It’s basically the white, middle aged woman equivalent of Crocodile Dundee. How will these silly, old, white women survive in modern day New York?
Yes!! I knew it reminded me of something Grin

I’m a bit jealous that all the guys on Carries dating app were so attractive - whenever I’ve been OLD it’s full of odious toads!

RoyKentsChestHair · 13/01/2022 23:55

Isn’t it white Anglo Saxon Protestant?
AsYouWishButtercup · 13/01/2022 23:58

WASP = White Anglo Saxon Protestant.

Charlotte once described her and Trey as WASPs

RoyKentsChestHair · 14/01/2022 00:15

Anthony is hilarious - don’t think I appreciated him in the original!

Re Big masturbating, why is that so weird? I used to love watching my XDP doing that Blush.

Agree about the clothes too. Carrie is very hit and miss, Miranda’s clothes are weird but sometimes in a good way! Lisa wears some great stuff - loved her crab necklace!

AllyBama · 14/01/2022 04:11

@RoyKentsChestHair oh so it is!

felulageller · 14/01/2022 04:22

I think it's improving as the series goes on.

I'm glad there's been no more of rose's storyline.

Is there only one more to go?

LeQuern · 14/01/2022 07:49

Anthony and (lord forgive me!) Carrie are the only likeable characters / actors who’ve remembered how to act.

It’s bizarre how badly the others are acting, especially KD. You can see the bloody cogs whirring.

southeastdweller · 14/01/2022 10:17

Just when I thought we were going to get a break from the dreaded Che, they pop up half way through.

I didn't like Seema joining Miranda, Carrie and Charlotte for dinner, it just seems so wrong and another sign the writers are (misguidedly) positioning her to be the new Samantha.

I think I'm just watching out of habit now.

SnowDropMania · 14/01/2022 10:23

I'm enjoying it as I like the characters and I'm enjoying being able to follow their lives again like i did when I watched satc. I like how stylish their lives are as I'm not like that at all. Unfortunately Carrie losing Big in the way she did is very relatable for me, so that draws me to the series even more.

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 14/01/2022 11:18

@AsYouWishButtercup

And as if Carrie is prudish because she didn’t support her friend shagging someone who wasn’t her husband right in front of her eyes FFS Hmm
Not only shagging someone who wasn't her husband but shagging Carries boss, potentially putting Carrie in a very awkward position.

Also Steve's affair was a big thing in the movie and I remember Miranda saying some about not being able to forgive Steve not for the sex but for the way he lied and went behind her back. I just can't see her character doing the exact same thing and not seeing the way she's acting as a problem.

lovelychops · 14/01/2022 11:23

I'm going against the grain to say I don't mind the whole miranda and che thing! I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that she could be exploring her sexuality in later life. It was mentioned she was unhappy with Steve and she's at a stage in her life where she is reassessing what she wants- ie giving up work and studying.

The emphasis on the new characters the college professor/ mum at Charlotte's school seem to be given too much time and space. I don't feel invested enough in them to care!

I think as usual they are giving Charlotte absolutely nothing in terms of a storyline. The tennis ? Not saying sorry ?what was the point ?
I don't really think it's good to comment on how people look... but KD cosmetic work is really jarring and quite distracting. Harry looks unwell. Is the actor sick in real life?

I do feel so much has been forced in and the whole Diwali 'cultural appreciation not appropriation' was so forced and like we were being bashed over the head by a lesson. I think it's good they're trying to address the lack of diversity in the past... but it's not subtle and comes across as preachy.

I also find carries constant "my husband died" line to be so annoying. It doesn't give her the right to do whatever she wants / get her own way.

Basically I think there's too much going on, and it's really flawed and nowhere near the originals. But I can't stop watching !

thebellagio · 14/01/2022 11:26

I actually really like Seema. Her and the professor (I can't remember her name!) have at least had their characters rounded out. You get an impression of who they are away from the main trio. They have been good additions who have naturally fit in.

The weak point remains Che. I literally groaned when they appeared on screen. It's such an AWFUL character. I find them predatory, gaslighting and lying with no respect for anyone else's boundaries. There is absolutely nothing redeemable about the character whatsoever.

And how have Carrie and Charlotte not pointed out to Miranda that she's cheating on Steve? They literally haven't said that sentence at all. And Steve is only in his 50s - why are they making him out to be a doddery old man in his 80s? The character assassination is terrifying!

user1471543094 · 14/01/2022 11:31

KD reminds me of someone acting in a school play.

DaggerIsle · 14/01/2022 14:16

Charlotte did say Miranda was cheating but was beaten down.
It's almost as if because Che is female it doesn't really count?
Which of course is terribly un-woke.
As is calling Demi Levato a woman... Grin

Showing my age and un-wokeness I am having trouble with the pronouns. When Miranda asked Carrie if they had been talking about her at work it took me a while to realise she meant Che and not a weird group gossip about Carrie's friend.

onlychildhamster · 14/01/2022 14:28

@ChiaraRimini Charlotte and Big would have been terrible, Big didn't want kids but Charlotte wanted them so much she adopted a baby from China. Harry is a family man despite not being from the same background. i think its realistic. Women often marry people they don't expect because its more important in a relationship to have similar core values/similar goals than the same background or even personality...

Carrie and Big were hedonistic people so suited each other. Big didn't want a family but he did want a woman who he could rely on for companionship (men usually know that by a certain age, they wouldn't be turning heads even if they are rich). Carrie also wanted the security of a long term relationship unlike Samantha. Like she said in the last episode, her dating life was like one of those wooden roller coasters so it wasn't fun for her playing the field..

I did think Miranda is one of those people who would have been happier being a single mum with nanny and continued dating/exploring.
