I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Carrie flirts with Seema too, it’s really cringey that she just can’t talk without this silly coquettish manner.

Did anyone think the hot plastic surgeon guy looked identical to the hot physio guy from last week, or was that just me in middle-aged-lusty-lady confusion?

It's Jonathan Groff from Mindhunter and Glee.
readwritelove · 08/01/2022 09:25

Both of them? Grin

Newgirls · 08/01/2022 10:16

The seema and Divali explanation was wrong - Carrie should have just gone, no explanation required. Would the mass American audience really not know it?

Purpleraspberry · 08/01/2022 12:16

I binge watched all 6 episodes yesterday and I am undecided what I think lol. I am enjoying it, but at the same time, not liking many things.

I loved the scene in the first episode where Miranda prattled on in front of the professor and other students, but it was rather unbelievable for Miranda as the tv show Miranda wouldn't have done that (though might be the effects of the drink).

I feel they are pushing modern times regarding non-binary and trans, etc way too much. Include it yes, but it is almost taking over the whole show.

Big's masturbation scene in the first episode and Carrie asking to watch, ewww! 🤢

The Miranda/Che sex scene in the kitchen made me cringe!

I didn't find Che's comedy show funny at all 🤷‍♀️

Samantha is missed Sad

Don't get me started on Brady and his girlfriend's loud sex 🤢 . Like many parents would be happy with their 17 year old son and his gf parading their sex life while living with them.

On the flip side, it is entertaining and nice to see them all on screen again. There have been some very funny parts too. I love Anthony's character!

The plastic surgeon.:)

It says something about my life that I just though ‘it’s Kristoff’

I’m not sure if they would. The American Office had a teaching session on it with slides and everything Smile
Newgirls · 08/01/2022 18:59

Ah so that might be why the heavy handed explanation

I just find it mad they’ve gone from chortling at woman in hijabs eating chips to woke AF suddenly they all personally know a box ticker?
We could’ve had something in the middle ,surely?

  • I say “box ticker” , cos that’s how’s they’re making it : obviously it’s important to see a bit of everyone and everything on tv: but maybe not all in the one “comedy” show.

To be fair, the chortling about hijabs was awful at the time and really insulting, and was the start of SATC being ruined. But I do agree with your point, it's gone from one extreme to another.
TheRemotePart · 11/01/2022 13:31

@SpanishFly no I KNOW Shock and the bit where they all peel off their clothes and are all wearing couture? Eek! I’m fairly ( what’s the opposite of Woke? Asleep? Shall we start a new phrase?) “asleep” but that bit had me like ooooooooh Confused
But yes, something in the middle.
Or hire a writer like Mindy Kaling, who has full permission to poke fun at herself and background

It was so unpleasant, the laughing etc 🤮

ohfook · 12/01/2022 07:09

I'm up to episode 5 and I think my problem is it comes across like they've been asleep since that last movie and just suddenly dropped into 2022 and are now baffled my modern life.

Pronouns and speaking to black people haven't just been invented yet they're acting like it's the first time they've encountered it all - look at us 50 year old women trying to deal with modern life. They live in New York and have done for many years, Miranda had a black boyfriend who presumably she talked to without making a tit of herself, they partied with transgender people at Samantha's apartment. It's unrealistic that they'd be this clueless.

UserBot989 · 12/01/2022 08:06

reading this thread has put me off watching it!

JacquelineCarlyle · 12/01/2022 17:30

Don't let it put you off @UserBot989 - some of us are really enjoying it! It's getting into its stride now and it's lovely to see the characters at the ages they are now. Che is an annoying character but the rest of the new additions are great and Anthony is fab!

Robin233 · 12/01/2022 18:16

@UserBot989
Yes don't be out off.
I agree with most of the stuff on this thread..,.. but can't wait for the next episode.
I'm about the same age as the girls so, despite everything I'm enjoy it in the most part. (Not enough Harry and Steve though)

LovedayCL · 13/01/2022 03:11

It’s basically the white, middle aged woman equivalent of Crocodile Dundee. How will these silly, old, white women survive in modern day New York?

alienalan · 13/01/2022 10:36

SJP's voice has really aged. Is that what happens or is she a heavy smoker in real life? No has Cynthia but not as bad!

On another note, has anyone seen all the Che memes going round?

Robin233 · 13/01/2022 12:52

Just watched the latest episode - totally loved the opening scene.
It was good.
And we got more Harry and Steve.
Enjoy it.

DaggerIsle · 13/01/2022 12:55

I'm sorry but the Charlotte apology storyline was utterly ridiculous.
Turning it into a feminist issue and refusing to apologise because 'women apologise too much'?
Two things. You bump someone, you say sorry.
Then the irony is that she mentioned women and quoted Demi Lovato. Demi Lovato, who very publicly came out as non binary and changed pronouns. Grin

This is the problem with virtue signalling box ticking woke writing.

LittleBearPad · 13/01/2022 17:26

I rather enjoyed the marital arguments and being ‘that couple’

I also liked there being more Nya independently of Miranda.

I’m really not sure Miranda gave it her all with Steve.

LittleBearPad · 13/01/2022 17:27

And I know if she doesn’t want to she shouldn’t etc etc

DaggerIsle · 13/01/2022 17:31

It wasn't the arguments, it was the random aggression and the refusing to say sorry as an excuse to name drop Demi Levato.
Charlotte was always worried about appearances and didn't swear and now she's cursing in the street because she doesn't want to say sorry to a penis-haver?
Ridiculous.
The other couple argument was a lot more realistic.

Miranda and Che continues to dismay and embarrass.

I quite enjoyed the date until the insane vomiting in the street.
I thought they had food poisoning for a second but it was booze-related?
Surely doesn't happen that abruptly to 2 people at the same time?

Guy seems sweet though.
