I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Sara Ramirez was in 11 seasons of Greys Anatomy which definitely makes her a huge star. She was very likeable in that. In this though, not very likeable at all Blush

CaliforniaDrumming · 05/01/2022 09:00

Grey's Anatomy: good old days when people could just be gay or non-binary or whatever they pleased without bullying and lecturing cis married women.

Newgirls · 05/01/2022 10:07

I think the che/Miranda story works. Che is a very strong, confident character, Miranda is drinking a lot and perhaps we are going to see that it isn’t a healthy relationship? Miranda falling for another man as her marriage is ending would be boring wouldn’t it?

What is strong and confident to one person is domineering and thuggery to another.

Either way Miranda was strong and confident up until now. She was very controlled and in control. She was so very empathetic with her MIL, she had Steve under her thumb. she had the most serious role of them all.

Now it’s like she crawled under a rock and emerged twenty years later to a completely different world. It doesn’t make sense.

  • just updating that I still haven’t seen past the second episode ( or third?) the one where she stalks Natasha ? And it still doesn’t sound like I’m missing anything ! It sounds awful? Why are they giving this Che all this storyline? The partners were always bit parts /side stories? It was the GIRLS who were the focus and how the dealt with everything. And it was also funny. Remember “funny”? Or does everything have to be humourless and serious now? IT WAS A SHOW ABOUT WOMAN IN THIER 30S STILL HAVING NO CLUE AND WEARING NICE CLOTHES. And sex of course ..

I can’t believe I now hate Miranda. Remember the fall out from Steve having a one night stand when he was unhappy. Apparently Miranda doing the same is fine.
Che is getting on my tits. The smoking weed fucking everywhere isn’t cool, it stinks and it’s rude.

bringiton23 · 05/01/2022 22:28

I'm enjoying it
Chill out, feel good tv
Alright it's a bit clunky in places but it's not a documentary
Great to see stylish fun older women on tv

IWasFunBeforeMum · 05/01/2022 22:35

Episode 4 is the most reminiscent of SATC. Barely any box ticking. Agree a lot of it is annoying but enjoying having it back personally!

ExtremelyDetermined · 05/01/2022 23:02

It's growing on me. I think the Rose/Rock storyline is being dealt with quite sensitively, I like the real estate agent and I liked the exchange of texts between Carrie and Samantha. Also Charlotte looking after Carrie.

However I agree that Miranda has turned into a nightmare. The kitchen sex scene was just awful and so cruel to Carrie. Che is vile with the pot smoking and aggressive manner.

ExtremelyDetermined · 05/01/2022 23:03

Oh and Brady and girlfriend, just no.

DDMAC · 05/01/2022 23:19

We are still watching it. Parts of it irritate me, like they have all the characters acting like they’ve only got a few years left before they croke. Steve is deaf all of a sudden and Carrie can’t walk because of her bad back.
I thought the Miranda story with the DJ finally brought a bit of excitement, I thought the kitchen scene was spicy 😆 they went too far with the alcohol problem and I cringed at the way she reacted with her professor.

Newgirls · 06/01/2022 08:41

Yes Miranda is behaving badly and Carrie calls her out on it. It’s the point of the storyline isn’t it? I can believe it - I’ve seen people do all sorts when their marriage is bad, kids grow up. Maybe it’s where I live?!

DaggerIsle · 06/01/2022 12:16

Right now Anthony is making the show for me.

LethargeMarg · 06/01/2022 12:18

I'm enjoying this new episode
Like the crazy new apartment and the shouty picnic chat

DaggerIsle · 06/01/2022 12:54

Yes the new episode feels more 'normal'.
The mix of old and new characters works better and even the masturbation scene was not as cringe.
Carrie was surprisingly endearing when talking about her flat issues.

CruellaDeVilla · 06/01/2022 13:28

Janice Turner in The Times today: that explains a LOT

“Scolded in the city
Sex and the City had many flaws, chief among which was conflating shopping with liberation, but it dealt with thirty-something women’s dilemmas with empathy and wit. I gave the reboot And Just Like That . . . a few episodes before forming judgment but can only boggle at how much it hates its original characters and fans. The three principals — the fourth, Samantha, being absent — are now in their mid-50s. They’ve married, had careers, raised kids, lived in vast, vibrant, ever-changing New York their whole lives. Yet these worldly women have been replaced by fragile, geriatric know-nothings who must be constantly schooled and scolded.

Miranda, once a lawyer, is baffled by new technology (although she was glued to her BlackBerry in the original), a gabbling rube when speaking to an African-American tutor (despite having dated a black guy for half a series), and either too weak to discipline her son or screechily OTT. Even Carrie’s sudden widowhood is classed as a rich-bitch self-indulgence no worse than a bad date, and her body is so decrepit she needs a hip op. Meanwhile, because Charlotte’s daughter likes skateboarding and prefers jeans to frilly frocks, she is no longer a girl but “non-binary”. When school calls her by a male name without informing her parents, the only possible response, Charlotte learns, is applause.

Why is this show so conservative, hateful and unfunny? Because the LGBT lobbying group GLAAD has been employed to parse the storylines into woke homilies. These straw dolls, Karens and whipping girls say nothing about real older women, yet everything about how they’re now perceived.“

DDMAC · 06/01/2022 13:37

That sums it up pretty good.

Dancingonmoonlight · 06/01/2022 13:54

Pretty spot on!

EachandEveryone · 06/01/2022 14:24

Ive enjoyed todays episode it feels like the old days. Im not a fan of the new appartment though or Charlottes acting. Its because she cant move her face.

DDMAC · 06/01/2022 14:43

They’ve also amplified her character and made her more annoying.

TheRemotePart · 06/01/2022 15:29

Yip. RIP SATC Sad
Christ. I don’t have a lot i ask for in for in life, a wee trip down memory lane with my gals would’ve been nice….

Really enjoyed episode six - some of the humour was back and I love that Charlotte said what we are all thinking - Miranda has changed and isn’t progressive enough for this.

When Miranda said “It’s not a case of gay or straight because Che is non binary” I rolled my eyes so hard I caught a glimpse of my brain. I’ve been rewatching SATC and NO WAY would Miranda buy into that BS

AsYouWishButtercup · 06/01/2022 15:56

These straw dolls, Karens and whipping girls say nothing about real older women, yet everything about how they’re now perceived.

Absolutely spot on

TangledUp789 · 06/01/2022 19:46

Cynthia Nixon really is the worst. She’s ruined this show and ruined my love for SATC-era Miranda. And she’s wearing the most hideous wig while she does it.

I do absolutely love this recent quote from Patricia Field (I guess she’s talking mostly about fashion choices but it could equally apply to their overall input in the series): ‘Sarah Jessica thinks she knows everything - and she does. Cynthia Nixon thinks she knows everything - and she doesn’t’. Grin

And as if loudly orgasming while getting fingered by Che in full view of Carrie wasn’t gross and inappropriate enough, Miranda’s now loudly masturbating while her son speaks to her through the bedroom door. I don’t know if it was meant to be funny, but it was just creepy.

On the upside, I enjoyed all of Carrie’s and Anthony’s scenes in the latest episode. I love how Anthony has sort of become the new Samantha. I never really liked him in SATC funnily enough, but alongside Carrie he’s my favourite character in this show. I liked seeing Carrie in her new apartment too. Where did she move back to by the way? Her old apartment or the one she shared with Big?

Larryyourwaiter · 06/01/2022 19:54

It’s like Miranda wants to be Samantha, but yes Anthony should fill those shoes.
