I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

It’s awful. Dreadful writing, characterisation (assassinations of their previous characters tbh), slight of sledgehammer for upcoming storylines etc.

But I can’t stop watching - it’s a car crash in slow-mo.

It also shows just how brilliant an actress KC is - the hole she’s left is gaping and they are flailing around in it.

Agree, Carrie's grief and Big's ghost seem to have left the building.

I'm ok with that. Chris Noth seems like a disgusting creep and I'd struggle to watch anything sentimental about Mr Big now. Also grief doesn't make for fun viewing, if they made a whole series about it it would be a real change in tone for the viewership.

People tune in for fashion, friendships, life style porn and glimpses of NY. Or maybe that's just me. I wouldn't want to watch eight episodes of Carrie being sad.

Loved that dress in the last shot. Perfect. Took me straight back to 2003!

Also I think Charlotte's face looks a bit better now. Maybe she had it done for the start of filming and it's settled a bit as they went further into the series.

DifferentHair · 03/01/2022 14:23

I wish Che was a more likeable or interesting character.

I really love that they made a push for greater representation of different people on screen. I think it's also more realistic in terms of life in New York. It was a valid criticism that they were living in a famously cosmopolitan and diverse city but only interacted with other white cis gender people in the TV series.

But Che isn't a great character, they don't make sense. The show doesn't explain why Carrie (apparently a successful author and married to a millionaire) would desperately need a podcast gig at all, let alone one she wasn't comfortable with. The constant pushing of Carrie (including apparently using substances to do it?!) grinds against the forced 'woke' content and theme of consent. Maybe Che will get called out on that eventually, hopefully by Miranda.

Che is supposed to be a stand up but their material isn't funny. If the show introduced Che as a political activist for something that would have made more sense.

And also, the diaphragm story wasn't that shocking and didn't deserve the childish laughter from Che and that guy. Okay, so masturbating in public and sex with minors are topics that can be discussed seriously, but a woman sharing a story of a time a friend helped her out with an intimate problem is a gigglefest and TMI?? Their responses should have be along the lines of, what an amazing thing to do and how lucky Carrie was to have such a good friend whom she could trust.

Agree. It also reminded me that Samantha helped her friend in such an intimate way without a second thought...yet when she wanted Carries help with her grey pubes Carrie was all horrified and wouldn't even look!

Yes! I'd forgotten that storyline. I really miss Samantha.
**@babysfirstchristmas When you say “identify” though It’s relying on the identity of existing stereotypes of boys or girls.Rock could wear a dress or Rose could carry on wearing a black hoodie either could carry on skateboarding. But ultimately Rose was born female so surely more impowering to live her life as a girl that breaks all the norms. Rather than acquiring the sterotyoes of a boy name, boy dress sense, boys hobbies.
Hell yes!

I'm watching the latest episode tonight, it is growing on me. The thing that bugs me, as PP have said, is that it's like they've all been living under a rock for 20 years and they've just emerged into a whole new world. They aren't, they are educated, cosmopolitan women, living in NYC. I'm hoping the first few episodes are just scene setting. I also hope Samantha comes back soon.

Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 03/01/2022 18:45

I don't think Samantha's ever coming back, sadly.

Just watched episode 5 and really enjoyed it. Think it's getting better and better and really hitting its stride now!

CockneySpanner · 04/01/2022 20:15

I cringed so much through the first couple of episodes but in between the overly woke moments, I do think there are glimmers of the old SATC coming though. The kitchen sex scene was so bad though (the barking for one) and it made me feel really uncomfortable the way Che put their hand over Miranda’s mouth - think it was to quieten her but also a sign of control in the future. Also Che/ Sara is ridiculously unfunny so hope there’s no more ‘enlightening’ stand up. The fashion is totally OTT as per but on a purely superficial note I really wish they’d cut Carrie’s hair, it looks dead, especially tied back; does nothing for her. Anthony is the best and I hope he gets more air time. I love Harry, always have. Plus I really like the new characters Lisa, Prof Nya and Seema too - hope to see much more of them. The Charlotte scenes with the school mums are making me chuckle; all the one-up man ship. I’m also hoping they’ll develop Samantha’s exit into something more believable; the fans know it’s not how it would’ve played out. I don’t think Kim Cattral will be back though - she must be thankful she swerved it! Grin

We've also got to remember the episodes don't all take place one day after the last episode. Eg at the end of the hip episode, she said "three months later" she was back in heels, and I'm sure there was another which finished similarly. So the series has already spanned at least 5 or 6 months. That's not to say she wouldn't be grieving still, but she wouldn't necessarily be in the depths of despair.

I can't stand the Brody/girlfriend stuff. He's 17, they should be grateful that they're being allowed to sleep over in the house, and should be appropriate rather than almost flaunting their shagging and wandering around half naked. It's really nasty.

PatchworkElmer · 04/01/2022 21:51

I don’t understand why the whole thing is so Che-heavy. They’re popping up everywhere and it’s really jarring. I also agree they’re an awful character and surely, SURELY Carrie would’ve told her where to shove her podcast after the weed and kitchen sex incident? She’s loaded, she doesn’t ‘need’ the income.

Carrie doing the podcast isn't about income, it's about keeping herself visible and current. If she was still writing her weekly column, I have no doubt she wouldn't be doing the podcast.
LeQuern · 04/01/2022 22:54

There’s just no humour - no ‘diaphragm’ or ‘clown pubes’ or ‘Elizabeth Taylor just got her period’.

And the Miranda sex was so badly out of sync with the entire series of SATC; remember Sam hitting orgasm and singing like an opera star? Or Carrie and the Jazz ‘Hey Ray, wanna play me?’ man? Or Charlotte and the ‘he licked my tonsils’ bad kisser? Or Miranda and the ‘Shower of Shame’ play write? They all had sex but it was cute, fun and in character. Miranda and Che felt grubby.

JacquelineCarlyle · 04/01/2022 22:54

I agree @sansucre re Carrie's motivations.

Sara Ramirez is a big star so I assume that's why it's so Che heavy, but I'd love to see more of Seema and LTW and a lot less of Che (less fussed on the college professor as the relationship with Miranda doesn't ring true as a friendship).

CruellaDeVilla · 04/01/2022 23:21

@felulageller

The show is mansplaining to middle aged women how they should be.

Yuk.

It feels like Cynthia Nixon's ego fest.

Yep
CruellaDeVilla · 04/01/2022 23:22

@Orreries - brilliant posts, totally agree

Dancingonmoonlight · 05/01/2022 01:31

I thought the same ie Carrie is doing the podcast to remain relevant, to draw in a younger audience who no longer read magazines and papers.

I had never heard of Sara Ramirez. I just googled and she is a performer playing herself/himself. Comes across as an awful character and hasn’t even a glimpse of comedy value. They bring nothing to the show except cringe and uncomfortable bullying vibes. Let’s hope they piss off soon and won’t be in the whole series.
PatchworkElmer · 05/01/2022 07:25

Oh yes, I agree with you about that. But does she need it enough that she’d tolerate that kind of treatment? It’s not believable for me.

Crowdfundingforcake · 05/01/2022 07:52

Loving Harry. I feel my responses to the Rose/Rock gender fest would be very similar to Harry's.

Not enjoying the Miranda/Che storyline. Miranda has done the 'breaking out' thing before on a minor level but it doesn't work/last because that's not who she is, and that should be ok. It's awful watching her doing stuff because she thinks she's missed out and is straight-laced and leads a boring life. I get a bad vibe from Che, and the pot smoking in Carrie's apartment, the pushing Carrie for salacious stories on air knowing she was hopped up on painkillers, and the mouth covering thing were awful.
