I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

@felulageller

The show is mansplaining to middle aged women how they should be.

Yuk.

It feels like Cynthia Nixon's ego fest.

Agree with this
EachandEveryone · 01/01/2022 14:39

It totally does. I hope the next season has moved beyond that and back to the old days.

cloudjumper · 01/01/2022 15:18

@southeastdweller

Apart from a terrific SATC-style last scene with Carrie and her new shoes, I loathed this weeks episode. As others have said, the writing of Miranda in this reboot is totally off and I loathed the sex scene with Che.

I think my problem with the reboot is I don't believe in any of it, especially the woke crap. Not that SATC was always credible, of course. I wonder if the producers and HBO were worried Cynthia Nixon wouldn't return if they didn't meet her demands.

This.

I so want to like this new series, loved the old one, but I find myself cringing more with every episode! It all seems so forced, trying too hard. And I can't forgive what they are doing to Miranda's role/character 😣
**@babysfirstchristmas When you say “identify” though It’s relying on the identity of existing stereotypes of boys or girls.Rock could wear a dress or Rose could carry on wearing a black hoodie either could carry on skateboarding. But ultimately Rose was born female so surely more impowering to live her life as a girl that breaks all the norms. Rather than acquiring the sterotyoes of a boy name, boy dress sense, boys hobbies.
God yes! You can’t be a girl who likes skateboarding. You must be a boy!

AsYouWishButtercup · 01/01/2022 18:25
@AsYouWishButtercup I am not sure what you mean, but I have several friends with children who are experimenting with their identity including changing names and the way they dress, just like Rock
Yes I understand that but why do you think it’s great that this is happening?

enoughofthiscrap · 02/01/2022 12:33

Miranda has always been my favourite character but I was so annoyed with her for that sex scene in the kitchen. The old Miranda would have never done something like that. Even the fact that she let Carries BOSS into her apartment while she was sick in bed was so out of order. Carrie didn't want Che visiting when she was in the hospital so why would she want her in her apartment while she was conked out in bed let alone have to see them having sex, it was so bloody cringy BlushMaybe it's their way of showing how alcoholism changes a person.

enoughofthiscrap · 02/01/2022 12:35

Sorry "them" not her Blush

It’s like Miranda is a different person, she was many things in SATC but never selfish or inappropriate.

And her half arsed “ooh how embarrassing” response to Carrie’s (justified) anger about her shagging another woman in the kitchen was very odd too.

dayswithaY · 03/01/2022 07:47

Imagine if someone posted on AIBU that they were recovering from surgery when their friend invited their boss into their tiny apartment while they were asleep, whacked out on meds. They then proceeded to down shots, smoke weed and have noisy sex while you were left trapped in bed having to watch the whole thing and wet yourself because no one came to help you.

That's horrific treatment of a friend and Miranda would not behave like that. Carrie would dump her as a friend after that, too.

Che is an awful person, turning up at hospital uninvited and again at her home with tequila, smoking weed at a funeral and in someone's home while they are recovering. Why does everyone revere Che as some genius?

I thought the films were bad but this episode has just baffled me.

Dancingonmoonlight · 03/01/2022 10:53

Miranda was the person who nursed her MIL throughout altzeimers and was portrayed as a sympathetic and empathetic person for years.
Now a complete personality change.
Che is awful. A thug.
Miranda’s son would surely not be allowed to live like that at home? Do teens really live like that while still living at home? Am I out of touch completely?

dayswithaY · 03/01/2022 11:01

I never realised how much I love Samantha but we need her like never before.

SJP - make amends with Kim, increase her pay, apologise, whatever it takes.

Appalonia · 03/01/2022 11:14

I'd LOVE to know what Kim Cattrell is making of this shitshow! Bet she's thanking her lucky stars she never signed up for this...

SpanishFly · 03/01/2022 11:37

Finally watched the sex in the kitchen episode. Jeez what a noise she was making 😳🤬
Poor Carrie. Glad she was furious about it. But so irritating when miranda made it all about her. She didn't apologise before whining, she just tried to justify what she had done.
I think her feeling trapped in a marriage is something lots of people feel esp at 50+, and it could have been much better handled

Dancingonmoonlight · 03/01/2022 12:08

I think it's wonderfully subtle This is Cynthia Nixon’s reflection of Miranda’s character in JLT from a recent interview.

Imo think all storylines around Miranda are dropped like huge bricks into the middle of a once fantastic comedy drama. I feel like I’m watching a different show.

Benjispruce5 · 03/01/2022 12:36

I’m fascinated by Cynthia’s Botox. She has a smooth forehead but doesn’t look younger. Everything moves around it. I’m 50 and would love to smooth out my face a bit but maybe it literally emphasises the creased bits? Charlotte looks good though. Sjp looks better than I expect for a thin woman of that age but there is a point where a bun looks old woman. I think she may have reached it.

Sonex · 03/01/2022 12:42

Charlotte actress looks terrible around the lips - rubber duck lips, especially when she cries. I think SJP looks surprisingly normal/her age. Miranda also looks ok. the Che character is awful, such a right on bully, crashing into situations and being all "I'm mad me". I can't stand people like that in RL. Is she a real comedian?

Doubleraspberry · 03/01/2022 12:43

Subtle is absolutely not how I’d describe a single one of the plot lines in this show. Miranda’s have all been signposted with a hand of lead.

Sonex · 03/01/2022 12:47

I know! Miranda is unhappy / functioning alcoholic / bicurious or going to come out as gay was signposted from the first episode. We were literally beaten about the head with it!

I am still finding it watchable though, I have to say. Strangely SJP is the only one I relate to or would want to be friends with and I couldn't stand her in SATC.

AsYouWishButtercup · 03/01/2022 13:02

Yes I never thought I’d see the day where Carrie is the most bearable of them all.

Although she’s still so rude and selfish to here friends - demanding to Miranda “Get Che out of here” rather than asking politely. Dismissing their issues, as usual, to talk about herself

dayswithaY · 03/01/2022 13:23

Weirdly, I'm actually warming towards Charlotte. She seems genuine and kind and she really wants to help Carrie, not like Miranda who seems to be doing it out of duty.

That moment when she helped Carrie to the toilet and told he she was peeing, that is the definition of friendship! I also think her and Harry have a really supportive and caring marriage. If I was Carrie id dump Miranda, thank my lucky stars for a friend like Charlotte and go out drinking with Seema.

Also - Carrie's grieving process seems to have come to an abrupt end with no mention of Big at all. Wonder if that has been quickly changed due to recent events? It's like he never existed.

QueefofSheena · 03/01/2022 13:28

Why is Carrie involved with the podcast at all? What happened to Vogue and her books? Big was a squillionaire who left her a shedload of money, so she is free to write what she wants.

Carrie is still insufferable, Charlotte looks like the Joker and Miranda is all wrong. Harry and Anthony are the only two watchable characters. It also irks me that they will pin the failure of the series on what is happening with Chris Noth rather than owning their fuck up.

LittleBearPad · 03/01/2022 13:31

I’ve read somewhere there were other scenes with him but they’ve been deleted 🤷‍♀️

Who knows - it does all seem rather abrupt

EarringsandLipstick · 03/01/2022 13:58

Weirdly, I'm actually warming towards Charlotte.
Me too, once I ignore the disaster that is her mouth (the Joker comment from PP is very funny).

Her relationship with Harry seems real, and although she was unbearable in her approach to her dinner party, 'only black guests', the follow up when she & Harry were the only write people at the birthday bash was well done.

I'm not minding Carrie too much but she seems so old & haggard in the way she's played.

Miranda ...words fail me. That sex scene & her sniggery response to Carrie was dreadful.

Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 03/01/2022 14:01

@PodcastFunFair

Also miranda referring to herself as 'Rambo' so so Cringe.
Yes! It's one thing people giving you a nickname and using it but quite another to start introducing yourself using it. "It's Rambo, come on up". Absolute cringe.
Leaveitonthefloordrobe · 03/01/2022 14:05

We're we supposed to be excited or aroused by that sex scene? It just made me cringe, and I felt angry that it was going on a few feet from Miranda's convalescing friend. And who just lights up a joint in someone else's house?? So fucking entitled and rude. And tequila is a stupid gift to bring to someone recovering from surgery. Che not a good character. I dislike Che immensely.
