I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

@Netaporter I searched for this thread for that very reason!! Have also been watching Dopesick and think it’s utterly distasteful to make light of the opioid epidemic and show Carrie enjoying being high

SNUG2022 · 31/12/2021 06:57

Just fuck off with the identity politics and telling us we're all wrong. We're the adults in the room. Shots in the afternoon, getting high, sex in the kitchen, discussing your sex life in public, it's all a bit teenage. Yes I do feel old saying that Grin

coconuthead · 31/12/2021 07:25

@cosmopolitanplease

Great post *@Orreries*, I agree with everything you said
Yes I agree with *@Orreries* post too.
PodcastFunFair · 31/12/2021 08:28

I really want to like it but I just find it hard work too many cringy moments, not enough fun or joy, feels like a lecture in woke over and over.

Absolutely hated ep 5 I really dislike Che. I get that miranda would be tempted elsewhere at this poimt in her life and could see her being attracted to someone else but Che?! So rude and entitled must be a horrible part to play.
I feel so disappointed how they've developed the 3 main characters seems disjointed from who they were in satc.
I really don't buy the way they have dealt with Samanthas absence there's no way she would ghost her friends no way whatever that could have been done so much better.
I do really like the new characters minus Che- especially Seema love her, love Anthony he definitely needs more screen time, am hoping for an Aiden appearance soon.
Not sure how much longer I will keep watching.

SNUG2022 · 31/12/2021 08:34

Che is a massive teenage bully.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 31/12/2021 09:07

I’m loving it, especially the reactions to the woke shit.

LittleBearPad · 31/12/2021 09:12

I loved Charlotte and Carrie’s interactions in ep 5 and Anthony. I also thought Harry and Charlotte’s reaction to ‘Rock’ were believable.

Miranda… 🤷‍♀️

LittleBearPad · 31/12/2021 09:13

@SNUG2022

Che is a massive teenage bully.
Che is really not as impressive as Che thinks ‘they’ are
Theendisnow · 31/12/2021 09:35

Honestly I don’t like it. I’ve kept watching as I wanted to see what it was like but it’s disappointing. Carrie who I used to find annoying is far surpassed by Miranda and it seems that Cynthia Nixon’s own thoughts has been pushed into the remake.

AllyBama · 31/12/2021 09:47

@TangledUp789

Miranda is now officially my most hated character. Firstly because Cynthia Nixon seems like an insufferable person and is responsible for most of the worst parts of AJLT. Secondly because it was really gross of her to have sex in the kitchen in full view of her friend who’s recovering from surgery (I don’t care about her self pitying bullshit, I would have kicked her out). And I feel bad for poor Steve, he deserves someone better than Miranda.

I liked how there were lots of scenes with the girls together this week (something that was sorely lacking last episode). I just miss the fun and escapism of SATC. Now it’s all LGBT issues, race, ageing, relationship breakdowns, alcoholism, illness and death. I do like all of Anthony’s scenes though - he looks and acts the same as always and brings back the SATC feel. As did Stanford Sad I liked seeing Carrie back to her old self in the last shot. I think the show will be a lot more fun once she’s back out dating again.

100% this

Miranda never would have done this, unhappy marriage or not. The sex in the kitchen was purely written in gratuitously and made no sense. Yes I get she’s an alcoholic now and is going through some stuff but she literally cheated on her husband while her best friend pissed herself a few feet away. It’s so unbelievable logistically and characteristically.

I also feel the Rock storyline has been purposely placed to show ‘wokeness’ and is only serving that purpose, not any character development. It’s just bloody awful.

One small moment I did love was when Charlotte was helping Carrie to the toilet and wasn’t one bit grossed out like the Charlotte of old might have been. I love seeing what a bit of age and motherhood has done to her.

PodcastFunFair · 31/12/2021 11:03

Also miranda referring to herself as 'Rambo' so so Cringe.

x2boys · 31/12/2021 11:32

I feel like Cynthia Nixon is trying to Educate the audience,and that was never what the show was about .
Would it not be better to acknowledge that Rose is very different to her sister and that's fine ,maybe she's gay ,maybe she ,s trans or maybe she ,s just a nearly teen girl whose navigating her way through adolescent,it doesn't have to be a big deal ,and in this day and age ,girls can be whatever they want to be .

southeastdweller · 31/12/2021 11:53

Apart from a terrific SATC-style last scene with Carrie and her new shoes, I loathed this weeks episode. As others have said, the writing of Miranda in this reboot is totally off and I loathed the sex scene with Che.

I think my problem with the reboot is I don't believe in any of it, especially the woke crap. Not that SATC was always credible, of course. I wonder if the producers and HBO were worried Cynthia Nixon wouldn't return if they didn't meet her demands.

LittleBearPad · 31/12/2021 12:11

The lightness of touch of SATC is definitely missing. Each plot point is announced with a flashing blue light and sirens and then lands with a thump.

onlychildhamster · 31/12/2021 12:18

I actually really like it. I never really watched satc except for the movies and now that I am watching this season, I can't bring myself to watch the earlier seasons, it feels a bit dated.

I actually like it being 'woke', gives me a bit of an insight. I am in my late 20s but am quite clueless about such things despite being both ethic and religious minority in London! I am disappointed to find out Charlotte is a daily fail reader. And am sad to read that only Charlotte and Harry seem happily married... Maybe picking the bald steady lawyer is the best option.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2021 12:21

No way does Charlotte read the DM! Grin

onlychildhamster · 31/12/2021 12:25

@HeyGirlHeyBoy I was shocked!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2021 12:26

I just didn't believe it for a second! Btw Harry is fab, not just the steady lawyer at all.

GellerYeller · 31/12/2021 12:30

@southeastdweller I'm sure I saw that Cynthia Nixon has a producing credit for this series.

babysfirstchristmas · 31/12/2021 12:44

SATC was all about the sex and relationships of city dwellers. Sex and the way people have it and find it and identify has dramatically changed since the last series and there's much more of a language gender, sexuality, etiquette and consent. To not acknowledge this would be pretty dumb and the truth is we are all learning - us and the characters too. Anyhow lgbt has always been a part of SATC, Samantha had a lesbian relationship etc - but the ethnic diversity was way off and needed addressing. They've had to do a lot to modernise it and I think it's improving episode by episode. The story line about Rock just feels like stuff that is happening in schools, kids are much more experimental with their identify these days which is great.

Additionally these ladies have children and other baggage now, it was always been about relationships, and to focus just on the relationships between the ladies and whoever they are shagging isn't really representative of their age group and would feel pretty shallow. I like the new depth, when I was watching the first time I was a teenager and now I'm a mother, so it works for me.

In terms of depressing stuff, it always covered hard topics like Sam's cancer battle, Carrie's break ups, STDs, menopause, divorce etc

Honestly I don't really see the issue with Miranda having some fun with Che. She's clearly miserable in her marriage and has never been that into Steve. Carrie's reaction was ridic, surely you'd just shout and said 'help I need to pee'? Or 'I can see you guys!'. Not lay back and watch them whilst pissing into a very small bottle, weird. Friends are supposed to be on their friends side, and her reaction was prudish / judgey after all the stuff they've been through as friends. In terms of sex, I thought it was hot and really well done... a woman having a sexual realisation at a time when a lot is changing for her. It's a confusing time in a woman's life and stranger things have happened in real life, obv there is chemistry with Che. I feel Miranda is a logical person, she will prob give up the booze easily as it's logical but as she said she doesn't want to give up on discovering her sexuality. She's seeking something else clearly.

The issue isn't Miranda having sex with Che ,it's that she did it in Carrie,s very small open plan apartment whilst Carrie was a few feet away ,in bed sick ,that's just gross regardless of the gender/ sex / sexuality etc and it's not what the Miranda of old or any of them would have done .
LittleBearPad · 31/12/2021 13:04

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

That I found believable. I’m sure she read the National Enquirer in SATC as a secret and I can imagine her loving all the tacky gossip on the quiet. Plus she’s hardly going to be reading the UK politics in it.

Agreed. It’s crappy whichever way you look at it.

DaggerIsle · 31/12/2021 13:34

The mail online are huge! They now have an American and Australian section.
I remember once reading that (totally pointless trivia) the Kardashians log on 50 times a day to keep track of their lives online.
I could totally see Charlotte (secretly) reading it.

DaggerIsle · 31/12/2021 13:35

Also Miranda's reaction was ridiculous. Her friend announcing that she wet the bed (!!) and she just laughed it off?
