Do the production company think we're all stupid? Dick and Angel haven't just suddenly found that wall is a stud wall fgs! Clearly a total set up.

Makes you wonder if they were in danger of being eclipsed so shut down the competition. I'm sure if you're working to build a lifestyle and a business that pissing out for the cameras for great chunks of your time is probably not what you want once you've had an initial bit of TV fame.

About, not out

Doesn't mean the kids really don't like not sharing now either, who knows. It's still an interesting watch if they have help or not, why not they can afford to now.

holidaynearlyover · 16/11/2021 19:36

I used to love the programme with Dick and his previous wife and family, I always feel watching this disloyal to his first wife!

Why? How do you know she didn't instigate their divorce? She's remarried and looks incredibly happy from all her posts.
RobertsRadio · 17/11/2021 15:15

Despite Dick's many talents ( and I think he is very clever and resourceful), if I was the first Mrs S I would have been ecstatic to never have to kiss that moustache again, so no wonder she looks so happy in her posts.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/11/2021 10:30

I think they seem a lovely family but it is obviously staged, as most of these things are. I do worry about Dick's health though.

MyOtherProfile · 18/11/2021 11:25

What's wrong with his health?

WeeTattieBogle · 18/11/2021 12:23

He looks unhealthily overweight and it’s not good at any age let alone middle age.

Also, the wee boy looks like he’s being set up for a lifetime of being overweight also.

If they are as active as the show would like us to believe they must be eating terrific amounts everyday to still be overweight the way they are.

MummyJ12 · 18/11/2021 13:02

I used to really love Escape to the Chateau. It was like comfort telly!
I don’t like nearly as much now, although I am still watching it. Like lots of you have already posted, it seems so contrived.
I read an article that they spilt from their previous production company because the production team couldn’t work with them anymore. It claimed that they were mean, aggressive and toxic and some members of the crew were traumatised from working with them. They do seem mercurial.

Things I have noted from this series:
-Who knows Earth has a dehydrator?!
-The kids bedroom was a crazy idea, the mezzanine blocked off one of the windows making it dark and those poor kids are basically on a high futon. A mattress on solid wood?! That can’t be comfy?!
-I agree that it’s weird Arthur and Dorothy share a bedroom.
-Angel doesn’t seem to tolerate Arthur and Dorothy is obviously her favourite child.
-They have way too much time on their hands.

I love Stephanie and her French mum! Or as her mum says, Stephanieeeee 💗

MyOtherProfile · 18/11/2021 16:26

I'm just watching the episode where they build the mezzanine now. My burning question is why? Surely in a place that big they could just give them a room each?

IpanemaPeaHen · 18/11/2021 16:42

I used to love this programme until I found out that Angel used designs from a young British artist but ‘pretended’ to do the design herself on national TV. She claimed that the production company put pressure on her to say it was her design but it was clearly copied and credit should have been given.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/11/2021 18:24

I much preferred it when Dick did programmes like Scrapheap Challenge and that programme with his son James.

friedeggandsauce · 18/11/2021 19:01

@Chunkymenrock very true! I follow her on Twitter and she seems lovely so I'm basing it on him trading her in for a younger more sparkly model but I have no evidence 🤣

friedeggandsauce · 18/11/2021 19:02

@Chunkymenrock she may have got fed up of kissing the moustache 🤔

friedeggandsauce · 18/11/2021 19:03

@Chunkymenrock I've name changed!

Me too. It all seems very shabby and underhand.
MyOtherProfile · 18/11/2021 21:31

I'm really shocked about her using the other person's designs. That's awful.

Chunkymenrock · 18/11/2021 21:54

OP, please don't be so quick to accuse him of the old chestnut 'trading her in for a younger model!' Really unfair. They'd been separated for a while before he met Angel. Smile

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/11/2021 10:01

It wasn't me who did @Chunkymenrock.

Sorry! My mistake! Grin I got confused with the name change comment!
TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 03/12/2021 20:08

@MummyJ12
I have a dehydrator Blush

I agree with you on the other stuff.
I think we’ve just watched our last episode.

I think he was better with Brigit but I think she’s better without him. She seems very happy now with her husband and the bees

IbuGerry · 06/12/2021 08:37
@Chunkymenrock she may have got fed up of kissing the moustache 🤔
I saw an episode where Angel swerved a kiss… I’d have done the same from that very terrible moustache.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 12/12/2021 22:03

@WeAreTheHeroes

Over 90% of weightloss is down to diet and bog all to do with activity levels. They've experienced lockdown and a loss of business too. There's no need for personal attacks on two people you don't know.

It does feel contrived now in a way it didn't before but they need something to have an income stream when they've gone from being fully booked for more than two years to having to cancel everything.

They haven't mentioned how the re-roofing is being funded - that's going to be a hellishly expensive job.

I took six months and most have cost a FORTUNE. I have lost interest in it now. They are obviously mega rich and want for nothing. The whole idea has changed from the original concept. I would love to know if they are nice people when the cameras aren’t around. I know it is probably not fair to say but their kids are both very overweight.
mateysmum · 12/12/2021 22:22

I still enjoy it but prefer Chateau Diaries on YouTube. It's a really happy place. What's interesting is that although most of the owners on Château DIY are friendly with one another none of them are chums with D & A. Just saying...
