New thread for tonight. Will they have to replicate a Tunnock's product? Creme caramel? Can't think what else they might have to do.

I missed the last challenge (telly signal failed) so I'm catching up here. Can't believe Jürgen is gone. I had him down as the winner from day one. Chigs really has improved though.

Paul is a self important tosspot who takes against contestants and his bias against them is very obvious. Listen to tonight-so inconsistent and contradictory. Ha had already decided Jurgen was out. Prue is def shouted over in the decision making.

Just seemed a very harsh way for him to go when he has been consistently excellent throughout!

Jurgen didnt deserve to go. He was by far the besy baker there, Paul decided he was going out from the start of the episode. His fragile ego has ruined so many series of bake off and it strikes again

Just to interject and lower the tone slightly by saying Chigs looks lush in his glasses. He has such a lovely smile too.

Am I the only one who isn't wild about
Chigs? He's done really well but is more limited than the others, as seen when he didn't even know what the technical bake was - his inexperience does that. I feel they hype up the praise for him because they like his 'only started baking in lockdown!' narrative.

Jurgen got some undeserved criticism tonight. They can and do override the 'anyone can go' mantra - look at Rahul, who had a shocker of a semi final his year, but went through anyway because they obviously loved the 'shy scientist who doesn't believe in himself'storyline and didn't want to drop it.

Having said that, I'd have been very content with a four person final. They've all been extremely good. Shame anyone had to go tonight.

I saw someone on Twitter suggesting Jürgen and Giuseppe should replace Paul and Prue as judges in the next series and I'm all up for it.

So sorry to see Juergen go. His signature didn't seem much worse than any of the others (and Prue would have given him the handshake). He won the technical, and then in the showstopper the only thing they could criticise was the colour of his boats. Whereas Giuseppe's flavours weren't as good. What a shame!

What an unfair decision for Jürgen who has been consistent throughout! Would have preferred four people in the final. That was a terrible decision!

Aaaah. What a shame. That was so close. I was shouting at the tele for them to keep them all in.

Watching on +1 I'm shocked Juergen has gone. Week after week he was the shoe in the final.

Can’t believe Jürgen has gone, that is so annoying. I felt really sorry for him. His showstopper was so much more intricate than Chigs’ and the only criticism they could come up with was that the colour was dull. Chigs’s colour was also dull. I like Chigs but I think Jürgen is better than him overall.

I think Chigs's apples were brilliant, I even liked the odd colour.

Ultimately Jurgen just isn’t as marketable as the others though is he. The winners need longevity beyond the programme to keep the Bake Off relevant. I couldn’t imagine Jurgen on with Phil & Holly for instance or fronting his own show. I think he wasn’t show biz enough.

Serves him right for using beetroot.

Seriously, I think he was unlucky to go and had assumed he'd be in the final from day one.

It's all about Paul's ego the way he beams when bakers almost faint if he offers them a handshake, eurgh

Don't like Christelle and her fake humility 'oh little old me' persona then screeching down the phone to her family the minute !
