I’ve just finished the Season and I’m really not sure what I think! I knew he wanted to get away from Love but to abandon the baby and murder her plus how many times can be feasibly keep killing people? Plus I’m not sure the librarian lady was even nice enough for us to understand why she became his fixation. Anyone else have any views?

The whole show is about damaged people from damaged parents or childhood.

Love didn't want Dottie to get custody of Henry because she was a toxic and narcissistic mother. This was why Love and Forty were so screwed up.

Both Joe and Love were drawn to each other to satisfy their needs. Love knew she was a fixer, and this was why she was attracted to Theo. Joe wanted to protect vulnerable women in the way he protected his mum but not the lady in the children's home. Marianne told Love that's why Joe had picked her out and that she attracts toxic people because they sense her vulnerability.

It's a very clever show once you get beyond the senseless killings and crap police investigations. How did no-one think to check the camera opposite the bakery FFS? But the contradiction in self-awareness but at the same time total lack of self-awareness was really interesting.

The characterisation of Sherry was great. My favourite by far. What a great actor!

Very well put @BonnesVacances - you summed it up much better than I could!

Werehamster · 01/11/2021 09:47

That's an interesting perspective. I actually wished I'd watch Seasons 1 and 2 again before watching Season 3 because I'd forgotten so much of what happened.

BonnesVacances · 01/11/2021 10:33

I think I spend too long on the Relationship board and in the toxic family thread. Grin

bonfireheart · 01/11/2021 12:27

I do wonder how the characters do scenes with a straight face - like the scene with Cary and self love in the mirror was so cringe!!

Me too.

I actually went back and watched S1 & 2 after I had binged S3 to refresh my memory and fill in the gaps!

I just watched the ending

It was all far fetched but I enjoyed it and was sad at the ending. Maybe because I have a little baby but to kill his son's mum and then abandon him!

Oh, I don't see it as abandonment. I see it as Joe finally doing the right thing for that kid. His new dads seem like genuinely lovely people.
Yogaandcocoa · 06/11/2021 02:24

Im not sure killing the child's mother could have been the right thing even if she's a murdering psycho

ImNotDancing · 06/11/2021 02:46

It frustrated me that they went so so far away from the plot of the third book that there’s no way to go back now

What are the main differences between the series 3 and the third book?
Yogaandcocoa · 06/11/2021 09:16

I'm tempted to read the books

Yayaga · 09/11/2021 12:14

This was sooooo boring!!!

Also when the librarian says in French "I was born in Paris" her french accent is really bad.

Then when the camera pans out from the Eiffel Tower the street scene is clearly actually in america 🤣

I'm glad love is gone. This season worked well as a comedy but I didnt feel a single moment of tension and was pretty gutted.

Yayaga · 09/11/2021 12:16

In the flashbacks at the end we see that Joe had a younger brother who his mother chose over him.

I'm guessing he will meet this brother next season, probably without realising it.

desperatehousewife21 · 11/11/2021 21:23

I said to DH ‘that is the fakest Paris set I have ever seen’ Grin

I hated Sherry and Cary at first but their scenes in the glass box and him talking about when they first met and how much he loves her they totally changed for me. Really pleased they got out and were ok. Although the swinging was cringe and hope they stop that now they’re properly connected.

Hope season 4 isn’t Joe chasing Marianne through the streets of fake Paris.

canary1 · 11/11/2021 21:47

Season one had the ‘best’ stalking... that way he set up meeting Beck, it was really something. I mean, something crazy, of course, but still, he did his research!!!

It’s more of a black comedy now, but still fantastic! Well worth rewatching it all to date before any new season comes out.

Very sad that he didn’t seem to bond with Henry, that was quite depressing.

BiscuitLover09876 · 12/11/2021 21:12

Just finished this. Wow! I actually really liked that Joe had met his match. I was actually angry with Joe at the end of season 2. He had finally found someone who accepted him for who he was and would do anything for him. And he stopped loving her! It shows how he just wants perfect vulnerable women and to 'protect them', which is so sad because I feel like he could have almost had it all.

But he also progressed and developed so much and really did want to be a good person. Love was clearly unhinged.

The poor librarian. I agree with others that he just becomes obsessed with these 'ideal' vulnerable women. Ugh.

I actually felt sad for Love although hated what she did.

I'm so glad of Henry's ending I was very worried about him!

Definitely changed! I find it less creepy now and more just crazy and interesting.

I couldn't stand Beck at all. I actually really liked Love (plus she is absolutely gorgeous!)

I also adored Theo and can't believe what she did to him!

BiscuitLover09876 · 12/11/2021 21:15

Another thing I didnt get- what happened to Love's friends? Her really tight crew from LA? Surely they would've been up to visit and support her especially with what happened with Forty?

bonfireheart · 13/11/2021 09:31

Theo is beautiful, felt better knowing he is 27 in real life!

I like this too Blush
0blio · 17/11/2021 11:18

I've just finished S3 and loved the silliness and dark humour of it. I thought it was very clever how it manipulated you to root for Joe and want him to literally get away with murder.

JacquelineCarlyle · 17/11/2021 23:20

That's very true @0blio

MaxNormal · 18/11/2021 18:23

Just finished watching. I loved Cary and Sherry, they were both hilarious.

Makes sense that Love and Theo are a real life couple, that was the most (only?) chemistry of the season.

Overall though not as good as the first two seasons particularly S1.
