Hurrah! That is all.

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 27/10/2021 08:08

wasn't even a consideration.

LadyEloise1 · 27/10/2021 08:33

Crystelle's wee house was gorgeous.

Those pies looked amazing.

Mydogisagentleman · 27/10/2021 09:46

Correct decision last night, Chrystalle’s house was amazing.
I’m getting a bit bored with Juergen now, same as Giuseppe. I really want George and Chiggs and sweaty elbows woman, I am so sorry I can’t remember her name, to go to the final. I know it won’t happen

lollipoprainbow · 27/10/2021 09:54

Chrystelle and her fake humility is irritating like she didn't think her house pie was the best compared to the other car crashes !! Not keen on all the sexual innuendo this series either, I don't want to hear about pru's squirting or George's rock hard sausage. They have ramped up the silliness this year and I don't think it works.

I agree. It's a bit boring when you know who is going to win right from the first episode. And it must have been very frustrating for the other bakers.
Jojoanna · 27/10/2021 10:17

I agree can do without all the innuendo, spoiling it for me

Agreed. It’s not funny. Sniggering like schoolchildren.
StormyCornishSeas · 27/10/2021 12:19

Who's Sweaty Elbows Woman??? I've never noticed someone's elbows sweat before.

Glad Crystelle got star baker. I agree this series could easily become the Juergen show.

AppleKatie · 27/10/2021 13:33

Lizzie- she said she was so nervous her elbows were sweating.

SkepticalCat · 27/10/2021 14:07

I was really pleased that Crystelle won star baker, and it was lovely to see her cooking/baking a variation of a family recipe that means a lot to her.

I miss that aspect from the signature challenge; it used to be a bake that the contestant would genuinely make at home, or an old family recipe etc. Now the signature challenge is often something that the baker hasn't even heard of, let alone made themselves. How can that be called a 'signature' bake?

Dancingonmoonlight · 27/10/2021 14:10

He’s by far the best baker. But editing is responsible for his screen time.

I think they have built him up so far, they are bound to eliminate him and he won’t win which will be shocking as he is the best baker there. Anything for views though with C4!

StormyCornishSeas · 27/10/2021 14:28

Ok thanks. Now you mention it I remember her say that now

Just caught up this week.

Way too much innuendo this week, most of it not really funny. If they'd just left it as one or two gags, it would have been much more effective, but it got a bit ridiculous.

I too wonder if they're trying to create suspense by building Juergen up, but I hope not - he's really sweet and I like him. I still think he or Giuseppe would have been better as star baker as more consistent. He did a great technical, and very good at both the other challenges..

Crystelle and her fake humility, pretend faffing and nerves, is kind of annoying me. She's perfectly competent, and she knows she is, and it just feels like she's putting on a ditsy act for the sake of it.

her cottage was sweet but I wasn't keen on the decoration. Not sure I'd have gone for the flavours, but I'll take their word for it that they were great. She seems to go for the over-sentimental stories with her bakes, and I'm not totally sure I believe them - it feels a little artificially created. I think she's a good baker and could well get into the final, just wish she'd own her abilities!

I really thought George would go instead of Amanda. Both of them had fairly disastrous weeks, but I thought his was worse.

I'm not keen on Lizzie's style and designs but she is improving and they seem to like her flavours. Chigs is improving lots too, so could well be in the final.

lomaamina · 27/10/2021 22:01

I think either George or Amanda could have gone, so it's a real shame he's been having nasty messages on Instagram.

Amanda was so graceful in defeat, wasn't she? And a relief to not have tears for once.

SaltedCaramelHC · 27/10/2021 22:06

Yes she was always quite pragmatic about things, taking it in her stride. It's a shame that hers didn't work out.

I didn't know George was having nasty messages, that's awful. Almost all the ones who've gone home in recent weeks have have their own skills and talents, just not quite up to scratch on the day or in that environment.

I do wonder if they really wanted to give star baker to Juergen but felt that they couldn't yet again, so had to give a chance to someone else - but Crystelle showstopper was really praised by the judges and she was good in the technical too this week. Not sure that should have been enough, but at least she was a worthy winner if they had to pick someone new!

EsmaCannonball · 27/10/2021 22:22

I do think they played down Jürgen this week. He had two very good rounds and one where he was slightly off the mark, whereas Crystelle had two very good rounds and one where she was the worst (the chouxnut thingies). I think it was the first week where the Star Baker was debatable.

PickAChew · 27/10/2021 23:38

Yes, I think the star Baker this week was another where they couldn't give it to the sane people over and over.

And Jurgen's only slip up, this week, was dry beef - which I could have predicted with topside. That sort of pie needed some slow cooked brisket but that wasn't achievable in 4.5 hours that bizarrely needed to include final cooling time.

PickAChew · 27/10/2021 23:41

And Crystelle's pie was the only thing I wanted to eat in the entire episode. An enormous great big, very pretty, samosa!

jay55 · 28/10/2021 08:43

@SkepticalCat totally agree about the signature, we now have two technicals, one known in advance and one blind. There's no connection to the bakers normal home cooking that really used to start the show off gently.

antsinyourpanta · 28/10/2021 09:00

The signature bake often used to be something I could imagine baking myself (eg biscuits, brownies, shortbread, a "normal" or basic cake. Maybe a quiche fir pastry week) I hadn't even heard of a chouxnut before. I'd heard of a cronut but wouldn't have the faintest idea how to make one!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/10/2021 21:14

Has he?

That's awful!

None of them deserve to get flak because someone is "let go".

We need a new thread!

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 02/11/2021 18:24

Caramel week. I've bought caramel shortbread & caramel Baileys chocolates to eat while we watch. I wouldn't have minded toffee vodka but I'm working tomorrow 😄
