As for the movie night, it's cruel and questionable, but I've also been dying for them to see how Jake rallied all the boys to cheat at CA. That clip of him twisting Liam's arm is especially illuminating.

But that's what I don't get. They didn't show that clip (that would have affected Jake) but one that just upset Liberty :(

Anon778833 · 06/08/2021 10:49

@RavenclawsRoar

I didn't agree with movie night. The clip of Jake was from weeks ago and how humiliating for Liberty to hear that in front of everyone else. If they were going to do this, it should have been done BEFORE the re-coupling and focused only on what happened at casa amor or in the last couple of days. What's the point in rocking the boat again when they've all just made up? I'd honestly rather another dumping and then some newbies coming in for fresh drama rather than re hashing the same stuff.
The problem with this is can anyone really believe that Jake's feelings for Liberty have changed that dramatically in a few weeks?

Can you think of a time when you didn't fancy someone and then completely swung the other way?

The issue for me is that Jake never really demonstrates his feelings for Liberty. And not many girls wanted him anyway.

@Zampa

I think the language used to criticise Faye and Lucinda has been nowhere near as harsh as the last few pages of this thread about Kaz.

There were some posters just waiting for Kaz to mess up so they could pile on.

I don't think this is true - you're turning this into a race issue when it isn't. And I'm BAME so would see it from both sides. If it was all about race, people would be siding with Faye and digging their heels in about Teddy. Instead there's loads of love on here for Teddy, and even Toby. People loved Aaron too initially (until the bad judgement call re Lucinda).

Please don't derail the thread and make it about race when it isn't. Sure, there are racist people in the world, and Kaz may be getting racist abuse on other channels - but I haven't seen it here.

Just because someone might disagree with an islander's behaviour, doesn't mean it's anything to do with race. There are as many supportive posts about the BAME islanders, as there are the others - and the same for the less supportive posts.

CoolKitkat · 06/08/2021 10:54

Also, not everyone is going to like everyone. We all have different personalities, and different perspectives, and are attracted to different types of personality.

Sure, some people may not have liked Kaz from the start - of course. There will also be those who haven't liked Faye/Chloe/Sharon/Hugo etc etc from the start - that's just how people are. Doesn't mean it's to do with race.

todaysdilemma · 06/08/2021 10:54

@queenjaneappro

Speaking of Lucinda, Laura Whitmore (of all people) has JUST posted a video on her IG stories of someone doing a Tik Tok mocking Lucinda's way of speaking...

I'm not a fan of Laura Whitmore at all. But in fairness this was a link to a TikTok where someone is doing impressions of all the girls so Lucinda hasn't been singled out.
The impressions are quite funny and the one of Chloe is spot on!

Ah my point was, that no one has done a Tik Tok mocking Kaz's way of speaking with the screaming or the sexy baby voice. No one enjoys their accent/way of speaking being mocked on national television - but for some of the girls, they just have to get used to the fact they are fair game for that sort of joke. So being critiqued is not always weighted against women of colour.

Laura didn't have to post that tik tok on her IG...

tigerbreadandtea · 06/08/2021 10:58

I think Kaz has really let herself down. Used to like her but she treated Michael appallingly. Also can't believe Faye sat there laughing while Teddy looked crushed.

hyperbole001 · 06/08/2021 10:59

Gaslighting is gaslighting. Regardless of the colour of your skin. Sorry, but as somebody of colour myself, I won't accept that the anger directed towards Kaz is in some way linked to the colour of her skin.

So I guess the anger that has rightly been directed towards Tyler is also linked to the colour of his skin, and not because he's behaved terribly?

tigerbreadandtea · 06/08/2021 11:00

That should say Matt!

jezzyj · 06/08/2021 11:06

I've gone off both Faye and Kaz (and tbf most of the islanders after seeing them leave Clarisse by herself)

But we've all seen how Faye was rude etc. From the very start, she's always been gobby and loud, and unreasonable. With Kaz she started off so nice and bubbly and now we've seen a childish, hypocritical and bit of a meaner side to her which was unexpected

So yes, people are interested in that because it was more surprising than Faye's usual outbursts.

Also, people generally agree Faye is unreasonable when she messes up, but people are willing to completely overlook Kaz because she's their fave- which will create an actual discussion.

Zampa · 06/08/2021 11:13

I completely agree that Kaz hasn't behaved well but no other girl has been called a vile bitch by quite so many posters (and when Mary was called a bitch, the poster was called out for it).

Faye's behaviour had been excused multiple times because of her "insecurities" but Kaz's behaviour is just attributed to her being a horrible person.

Re. Tyler and Teddy, it's Black women that have the issues on this show. Not the men.

It's entirely fair to criticise and call out bad behaviour and I think posters are right to judge Kaz for her hypocrisy. However, posters need to be conscious of the language they're using and think whether they would post the same about another contestant.

How about just don't use vile language about ANY of them and think how you'd feel if you were called out on your posts in front of the contestants?

TellingBone · 06/08/2021 11:22

I think Faye's reaction was laughter to cover up her mortification at being outed.

I like her for her witty turns of phrase but she does seem rather 'mean girl' and always has.

TellingBone · 06/08/2021 11:26

I meant to add re Faye - I wonder if going forward she will go on the offensive and gaslight Teddy if he dares to question her [aka attack is the best form of defence].

Chicchicchicchiclana · 06/08/2021 11:28

Nicely said CoolKitKat. I'm not keen on this whole thread being derailed because of racist arseholes on Twitter. If I wanted to know what's going on on Twitter I would log on and read it.

I like to think I am reasonably switched on about racism within the limits of my experience and agree 100% that it exists hidden, or not even hidden sometimes, in plain sight. My teens who went to schools where as white children they were in the ethnic minority are extremely sensitive to racism and can sniff it out a mile off. My dd has just said to me that Matt's conversation with Kaz is "the best thing she's ever seen on Love Island" (and she's watched a lot Grin). No one can tell me she's racist for this, no one.

Zampa · 06/08/2021 11:44

I'm not sure why anyone would call her a racist for siding with Matt over Kaz. He did exactly the right thing, refusing to be a safety net in case things didn't work out between Kaz and Tyler. He should be and is being commended for that.

Monsteraobliqua · 06/08/2021 11:45

This movie night is horrible- wondering aloud at whether you find a new partner funny/ sexy are not some kind of a huge betrayal if done privately but would feel awful to hear. Jake's was weeks ago and to be fair, he was honest with Liberty at the start when he was open to meeting other girls. Showing that was spiteful and added zero value. Same as with Faye's comments. Her reaction was terrible but the comments themselves hardly anything controversial, nobody goes into a relationship with no consideration of whether the person is quite right for them. And neither should they.

Matt behaved really well, Kaz trying to smear him to the other girls and not give a full picture was spiteful too, she didn't actually want him and can't claim she was really hurt by this, so why try and put the others off? I think people are surprised by her behaviour as she was so well liked before.

I do love these threads as it gives me the opportunity to be heavily over invested and serious about LI which nobody in real life will entertain! However, can we maybe lay off calling people bitches etc, and also criticising appearances? The discussion on the behaviour, dramas etc is the interesting bit, not really whether Faye's lipstick is a great colour. They're young people, messing up in non- catastrophic ways very publicly. Can we talk about the programme without adding to some of the more unsavoury stuff that is said online?

Fully agree, there's no need for name-calling and abuse - let's be kind during our criticism :)
Pinkdelight3 · 06/08/2021 11:53

Agree about not calling people bitches. But the lipstick... I dunno, how can it not be mentioned?? Also seems a tad disingenuous not to comment on appearances. This is LI, not University Challenge. If it's not largely about appearances, they need to massively retool the whole format.

riotlady · 06/08/2021 11:57

Agreed

Monsteraobliqua · 06/08/2021 12:13

I take your point, Pinkdelight suppose it's about finding a balance of doing it in a way that's not too personal or too cutting.

QueenBee52 · 06/08/2021 12:15

is the Movie Night finished after 2 questions, or does it continue tonight ?

todaysdilemma · 06/08/2021 12:18

I think movie night will be continued.. I hope so anyway! There was some interesting videos on there and I want people to find out Jake's snakey snaking of the other boys.

CoolKitkat · 06/08/2021 12:18

I hope we see more of it, they seemed to have quite a lot of movies to pick from!

Unless they were fakes.

OrangeSharked · 06/08/2021 12:22

I think commenting on a lipstick colour is okay

Its nothing about Fayes actual appearance, its like saying you don't like someone's skirt or hairstyle.

More the comments on Fayes lipstick relate to why the fuck have none of the other girls told her to try a different colour.

Monsteraobliqua · 06/08/2021 12:24

I think itll be continued. I feel like it's been set up to drop Liam in it big style. Also Tyler and probably Jake

Discussing some of the mad outfit choices is part of the fun for me but Faye’s lipstick has been absolutely done to death on these threads and some of the “poo lips” comments sound a bit like playground bullying
