I think he managed to get her sentence increased. Dick.

@OnTheBoardwalk

It’s already been confirmed that Fred isn’t the father of Nichole.
Has it? I'm confused, as I thought that with Serena's pregnancy it shows that Fred is fertile so could possibly be Nichole's father? I didn't think it has been confirmed either way - Nick or Fred.

And I hate Googling anything to do with THT, even stuff that I know has previously happened for fear of spoilers.

Lnix · 26/07/2021 20:15

Janine is a character that has had so much done to her in every series...so strong yet so vulnerable and every inch of her mind and body stolen from her. I would LOVE to see her turn those tables!!

cleocleo16 · 26/07/2021 20:22

@mm8989

I think that the biggest problem with THMT is that they focused so much on June. (and I love June) it becomes unbelievable when she escapes so much, has phenomenal luck etc! If they had spread out the focus it would have been more believable.

Agree Janine isn't dead!

I think they are going to go along the lines of the second book now The Testament. I agree, I stopped being so emotionally invested as it became repetitive and silly with her being caught and escaping so many times and getting away without a scratch too.

I hope they take it down the spy route now.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 26/07/2021 20:24

I googled it and the show runner said she would have had a paternity test so I guess they didn't show it but it's canon

Tulipomania · 26/07/2021 20:52

I read the Testaments when it first came out.

Now can't remember anything that happened.

Except there was a statue.

Tulipomania · 26/07/2021 20:54

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Series 5 has been commissioned.
Oh shit, really??
OverByYer · 26/07/2021 20:55

I know I think I read the Testaments too quickly and I can’t remember it at all

They send Nicole in as a spy to take Gilliad down from within. It's full of twists and turns about which side people within Gilliad are really working for.
BoreOfWhabylon · 26/07/2021 21:01

I think we'll be seeing Janine soon and she'll be back with Aunt Lydia.

WorldsBestBoss · 26/07/2021 21:04

Is it possible that we could not discuss The Testaments on this thread please, for those of us that haven't read it. Thank you.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 26/07/2021 21:09

I imagine Janine will still be in Chicago, it would take a manhunt over a huge area for Gilead to find her.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 26/07/2021 21:17

Just listened to the Eyes podcast - they suggested that Serena Joy could be sent back to Gilead and be punished by becoming a Handmaid, after all, she is a sinful and fertile woman...

GoingGently · 26/07/2021 21:20

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria that would be an amazing plot line!

I thought that about Fred - that as he is the father of Serena's baby,he could therefore be the father of Nicole. The paternity test thing is such shite! I believe you read it, but the showrunner must has said it to cover up up ridiculous plot hole.

I hope they don't send June back in to Gilead now and go another way. It was getting a bit repetitive with her being caught and escaping unharmed and was becoming a bit ridiculous.

BIWI · 26/07/2021 22:29

I really enjoyed tonight. Initially I was a bit irritated with the flashbacks, but then I saw that they were revisiting the beginning of Luke and June's married life together. Now she's escaped and has been reunited with him, this is another beginning that they have to navigate. How on earth are they going to rebuild their marriage? Both of them have gone through so much.

OytheBumbler · 26/07/2021 22:56

Finally caught up.

I was so hoping for Luke to call her 'Junebug' and tell her that she didn't have to be the strong one any more but they still seemed separate getting off the boat.

I don't have high hopes for the future.

OnTheBoardwalk · 26/07/2021 23:01

Would Canada send Serena back to be persecuted for being a woman being able to give birth? I don’t think so

After Luke head the June's tapes about Nicole being born out of love it was confirmed Fred wasn’t the father wasn’t it?

Iggi999 · 26/07/2021 23:07

I really want to see June meet the Waterford's

PerpetualStudent · 27/07/2021 01:20

I was annoyed by this episode - I felt like a lot of this series and series 3 they were moving June’s character away from being solely focused on finding Hannah and towards just fucking Giliad up - all the risks she took, like poisoning the commanders. Then suddenly in this episode the focus is back on Hannah again - I felt like the writers were just pulling on our heartstrings/creating tension for the sake of it, rather than developing a consistent character.

TheMoth · 27/07/2021 08:58

I think the flashbacks were there to show that luke and June never had a fairytale love, so the chances of their relationship surviving are slim. I'm sure in other flashbacks there was a hint that he was just sort of OK. We know moira isn't a fan, but then, how many of us aren't fans of friends' partners? Can't remember if her mum was.

I remember luke not being that bothered by June having her back cards frozen, but that could have just been to illustrate how men weren't initially affected.

Their experiences will also be so different now. Will luke feel guilty that he effectively came out OK? Will he resent June's drive and resilience? Will he cope with her ptsd, because that, surely will kick in?

I don't think Canada would send Serena back but I always remember that she was the author of a lot of the original principles of Gilead - the sanctity of marriage, a woman's place is in the home and all that shite.

Now that she is pregnant and it's Fred's baby I could see her returning with him (to keep the baby) and them claiming their place back as Commander and wife.
