Sorry, I wasn't referring to specifically on here. On Twitter etc when June sent Nicole with Emily there was uproar that she didn't also go to Canada,

SkepticalCat · 25/07/2021 23:08

I really liked this episode! Barely breathed throughout most of it!

I felt they had to focus on how difficult it was for June to leave Gilead, and I'm glad the episode didn't jump around showing other stories. This was all about June. If it had been over in ten minutes (either June staying in Gilead or her arrival in Canada), then I think we'd all be saying "huh? Is that it?".

I loved the struggle/fights between June and Moira whilst on the ship, seeing their motivations and internal struggles.

Even though I am desperate to know what has happened to Janine, I think it was far more realistic that we haven't immediately found out.

Seeing the people behind barbed wire fences as the ship was leaving reminded me of the fall of Saigon.

There are still four more episodes to go to tie up "loose ends".

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 25/07/2021 23:16

But it seems MoiVod is no more Sad

I wonder whether Moira & Emily will end up together.

WorldsBestBoss · 25/07/2021 23:30

I love the dynamic between Moira and June. June is a badass but Moira will bring her down to earth with a bang when she needs it. And then give her a hug and tell her she loves her.
The epitome of BFFs.

@RiaOverTheRainbow

I'm a bit Confused at all the Team Nick/Team Luke. June's romantic relationships have never been the point of the story! Since the very beginning June's driving force has been wanting to reunite with Hannah, Nick and Luke have been background details compared to her. I get more (platonic) soulmate vibes between June and Moira tbh, they've been best friends for so long and they keep coming back to each other.
Yeah I agree with this - all the team luke/nick feels a bit twilight for me. Enjoyed the episode though. Can't wait to see if she ends up face to face with the Waterford's!
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 25/07/2021 23:35

@Roussette

Have to say... June is driving me bonkers. She just seems so misguided.

Think of Nichole, think of what you can do from Canada, think of Luke,... the fact she says that Hannah is scared of her means that just for now she has to let her go.

I fairness she finally seems to be having a VERY long overdue mental breakdown. Humans don't think rationally. I think her sudden erratic behaviour following trauma is realistic.
WorldsBestBoss · 25/07/2021 23:35

I like both Luke and Nick.

To me Luke is like a comfort blanket, best friend type husband that you snuggle on the sofa and eat a takeaway with.

Nick is the guy that you can't shop thinking about and your heart starts racing every time you see him. That you sneak a quick snog with when no-one is looking. Very dramatic and intense.

But I would probs choose Moira over either of them 😂

@MotionActivatedDog

Do Gilead have to find out that June has been smuggled out? Do Canada have to declare it?
She could just wait it out for a few weeks and then go "ta dah" and be purposefully quiet about how she crossed the border. If she tells the truth she puts the NGO aid charity at huge risk
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 25/07/2021 23:52

Can I point out the slightly obvious plot hole of the border patrol's lack of headcount. SURELY they'd do a count as they enter Gilead. And realise there's one more on board than before.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 25/07/2021 23:54

Is Emily back with her wife do we know?

I'm pleased they don't do Prince Charming romantic reunions. It's not realistic. I'm not sure how marriages could survive all that trauma

I was actually expecting them to have a passenger manifest to tick all the names off against. Surely Gilead wouldn’t just accept “we’re sending an aid ship with 20 people on”? They’d want names of everyone on board for this exact reason. The guards did actually seem to be holding clipboards with paperwork that they were checking through when taking names so when she said “Rachel Smyth” what did he check off on the paperwork?
NigellaSeed · 26/07/2021 00:15

Wow that was alot.
I think the Luke/June reunion would of been more impactful if we were focusing on likes success of things, because it means more to him, but the episode had to follow June so it was just abit meh, and he paused for so long, and I'm not sure what the actor was trying to portray in that pause.

Live the idea of a June/Waterfords reunion!

Loved Moira's acting in this. "I fucking found you" 🥲

NigellaSeed · 26/07/2021 00:17

Sorry should be - if we were focusing on lukes side of things. It's late

NigellaSeed · 26/07/2021 00:20

Also. I thought June was freaked out when she found out she was pregnant with Hannah? In a previous season flashback I don't think we got the impression at all that June was desperate not to disappoint luke and trying to get pregnant?

sweetkitty · 26/07/2021 00:24

Was anyone else thinking of Aunt Lydia’s reaction if and when she finds out June has escaped to Canada?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 26/07/2021 00:30

I think Luke was letting June make the first move. I remember when Emily was reunited with her wife and son they were careful to give her space and not push her boundaries.

Roussette · 26/07/2021 07:04

Yes, and almost temporary deafness after the explosions

So glad Luke just wrapped her in his arms

Tulipomania · 26/07/2021 07:12

I reckon the key thing moving forward will be June meeting the Waterfords. They are all in Canada now. And some weird negotiations.

Who is Moira having a relationship with? The captain of the ship or someone else?

Tulipomania · 26/07/2021 07:13

They need to let Gilead assume June is dead, but that's not going to happen, is it?

She was with the leader of the team but they just broke up.
Justjoinedforthis · 26/07/2021 07:39

I am fearing some sort of extradition as part of a deal! Hope not.

Yes I think this too. I don't know anything about it but I'm sure that Luke would have been given some sort of advice/training on how to take things when he saw her. Also the last time he heard from her she was telling him she had found love with someone else so maybe he's not sure what her feelings are.
RidingMyBike · 26/07/2021 08:18

Very late finding this thread!

NigellaSeed · 26/07/2021 08:54

That makes sense, that he was taught to give her the first move. But she was smiling and he had a serious face which lead her to start apologizing.

TheMoth · 26/07/2021 09:16

I think it will be interesting to explore whether June and luke would even want a relationship now. Guessing it must be going to draw on experiences of couples who've been separated by war/ seeking asylum. It can't ever be the same. I always thought the luke/ June relationship was always slightly uneasy anyway, so that it would be more complex in terms of her emotions.

I think too much has happened for them to be together. I also think that would be a shit conclusion. I'm also not sure how June will be with her baby, knowing her other child is still in gilead.
