@cleocleo16

Why couldn't they take people out and had to be checked by the police before? I remember previous series where they were constantly smuggling people out and Canada seemed to want them to. That's how Moria and Luke got out to start with.
Because this was an aid mission. Gilead permitted them to go in and provide aid but not remove citizens.

All the others got out illegally.

@MotionActivatedDog

He was the one telling nick he has to bomb Chicago?
Thanks for explanation! It seemed like Nick saved Lawrence's life and gave him some power, then Lawrence used that power more than he was expected to?was he out for revenge, or was he being being controlled by the other commanders. So odd. And I guess the actio shifts to Canada now so we'll not know and it probably doesn't matter.
TheSpottedZebra · 25/07/2021 22:16

@sweetkitty

Totally agree what an anti climax

Too much recap - do they think we have sieve memories? Made the episode feel far too short with far too many ads. I don’t think Janine is dead either, unless you actually see someone die never assume anything. I don’t know I was a bit underwhelmed by the Luke reunion.

There was! A full 10MINS of recap. Then a break.
OverByYer · 25/07/2021 22:17

I don’t feel like they’ve properly addressed the Handmaids that were killed by the train, Esther at the farm, the Jezebels who poisoned the commanders, and now Janine. Too many loose ends

Agreed and we've not seen AL since have we?
TheUnquestionedAnswer · 25/07/2021 22:18

@Lnix thank you!

colouringindoors · 25/07/2021 22:19

Slow. But interesting to see the insecurity in flashbacks which will inevitably be an issue now.

That step was emotional.

GoingGently · 25/07/2021 22:19

Oh course we did on the treadmill! 😂

colouringindoors · 25/07/2021 22:19

Disappointed to know nothing about Janine though.

OverByYer · 25/07/2021 22:21

Yes the Treadmill! They were talking about that on the podcast, it was funny.

@MotionActivatedDog

That felt like a very short episode.

Do we know how long June was a enslaved in Gilead?

Around 5 years?
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/07/2021 22:22

I cried for most of that. So sad that June was almost scared to go back to Luke without Hannah.

Interesting that in the flashback Moira said that Luke would leave June if she couldn't have children - just as he left his first wife. June obviously agreed with that to some extent as she was worried about how their marriage would survive if they couldn't have children.

Now she's come to Canada without Hannah. She's devastated that she doesn't have Hannah. And I think a part of her still thinks Luke won't want her without a/their child.

Lula has already shown us that he is annoyed that June chose to stay in Gilead rather than escape on the Angels flight... so maybe he's not as invested in Hannah as June thinks?

I'm firmly in team Nick. Luke has no idea what June has been through. His questions last week asking about what June's sentence was likely to be if she got caught showed he is completely clueless to the atrocities in Gilead. I can't see how June can ever be with Luke again. Nick understands so much more about her and what she been through. I still think Nick is a double agent. Why else was he able to pull rank on Mr Waterford way back in S1?

OnTheBoardwalk · 25/07/2021 22:22

June saying “I’m sorry it’s just me” got me

GoingGently · 25/07/2021 22:22

Apparently captured in 2017 (according to podcast)

Absolutely this.
GoingGently · 25/07/2021 22:24

Luke doesn't seem all that bothered about Hannah IMO.... has seemed to me to be more fussed about getting June back

MotionActivatedDog · 25/07/2021 22:25

Thank you @dapsnotplimsolls and @GoingGently

colouringindoors · 25/07/2021 22:25

After what June has experienced over those 5 years on Gilead imo there's no way her and Luke would resume. And I was seriously underwhelmedby Luke's reaction. The way they walked off the ship with a big gap between them was I felt, very symbolic.

Team Nick for me too.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/07/2021 22:26

"don’t feel like they’ve properly addressed the Handmaids that were killed by the train, Esther at the farm, the Jezebels who poisoned the commanders, and now Janine. Too many loose ends"

It's a war - there will be loose ends. As much as I want I know what happened to the women at the jezebels in the country, the handmaids that got shot, AL and Janine, I don't expect everything to be tidy. It's war and a Gilead war at that. It's messy - that's why we love it Wink

Apart from the time Emily newly escaped gave him a current photo of hannah and he was in tears.

He looked devastated when Hannah wasn't on angels flight

GoingGently · 25/07/2021 22:35

True. I guess he's as traumatised as the rest of them. Probably dissociates to get by

whatsthestory123 · 25/07/2021 22:37

we havent seen the last of Janine god dam it she survived the colonies Wink Wink

RiaOverTheRainbow · 25/07/2021 22:42

I'm a bit Confused at all the Team Nick/Team Luke. June's romantic relationships have never been the point of the story! Since the very beginning June's driving force has been wanting to reunite with Hannah, Nick and Luke have been background details compared to her. I get more (platonic) soulmate vibes between June and Moira tbh, they've been best friends for so long and they keep coming back to each other.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/07/2021 22:48

I hear what you're saying, but I do find it interesting how different June is when she is with Nick to when she's with Luke.

Horehound · 25/07/2021 22:58

I've never understood why people criticised June's choice to stay in the past

I've not seen anyone criticise that Confused
