So says the Guardian. (Though they also say it might not be true!) Apparently he's highly supported by RTD.

Ho hum. I know he was good in It's A Sin - and he's young enough to be appealing to the target audience. But he's also probably too young for me to feel emotionally engaged in the character. Which would be a shame - I've watched almost from Dr Who's inception.

'He wasn’t lip syncing, and he most definitely wasn’t play someone anywhere near himself in IAS'

Really? He looked like he was syncing, badly tbh. I meant in the promo interviews he literally acted and sounded exactly like Ritchie. Whereas say Colin was very different to Callum Howells the brilliant actor who played him.

I was at the recording. Well he was using his own accent, so he will sound the same.

It's been crap since Matt Smith left. I tried to like Capaldi as the Doctor, I really did (he's great in other things). Was hoping for a return to form after that, but can't stand the Whittaker series. Never seen this suggested guy in anything, but he looks about 15!

Callum is Welsh isn't it, as was Colin, but again very different didn't seem to be playing himself.

Anywayyyy, I'm just saying he seem to the same characters whatever you see OA doing. He could maybe try and change it up a a bit and try acting.

Sparklingbrook · 27/06/2021 18:41

The last Dr Who I liked was David Tennant.

@MayIDestroyYou

Had to look up Charlotte Ritchie - never seen her in anything so can't comment.

As Michaela Coel was never going to do it (Sad) I've lately been considering Laura Donnelly, who was perfection in The Nevers.

And I'm longing to see Joseph Gilgun in a tough, non-comedy role. (Apparently he was in a soap!) He was formidable in both Brassic and Misfits - he'd be a gorgeous, lost, damaged Doctor in the Matt Smith vein.

Joseph gilgun would be amazing. Really hope he gets it.

FYI he was in a coronation as a kid he was maybe 10/11 in it. He was amazing then

I quite like Jodie, but I feel the writing has let her down. There were some great episodes, but too many were either boring or had obvious holes. I liked the one where the Aliens were making sure no one died alone, but I can’t really remember any genuinely big episodes in while, not when you think about the Angels for example. It could be brilliant again with better writing.

Thirty year olds really don’t look fifteen.

He’s been an actor for over ten years, not giving it ago or changing it up a bit.

I don’t know what to believe in the media any more.
I also wonder how much longer Dr Who can go for.

Talking of writers isn't It's a Sin script writer the very same one from Dr Who.. there's a coincidence!

I mentioned in the OP that Russell T Davies, the original show runner, was reported to support the suggestion of Olly Alexander for the part. He did write It's A Sin, but he hasn't been the Doctor Who show runner for years. The current incumbent is Chris Chibnall. And I know people who spit when they say his name, poor man.

Ah sorry yes I've just noticed your RTD comment!

@JaniieJones This is a good representation of what hes really like, just add in a few video games and a love of houseplants.

Holothane · 27/06/2021 18:56

Don’t believe any of this, it’s just tabloids. Slow news day.

Winkywonkydonkey · 27/06/2021 18:58

I'd prefer to see Mizero Ncuti Gatwa

They should do a reality show. Like when ALW found Lee Mead for Joseph. We could all vote and get the one people wanted.

blaisealex · 27/06/2021 19:02

@SimonJT Do you know OA personally?

I think rather than c&p offensive comments it's best to report them?

Thanks for the link Simon.

See I watched that and I just see Ritchie Grin

Good luck to him and I'm sorry if I sound over critical but in interviews he does comes across as the same character from IAS and from an acting point of view I do think there needs to be other sides to people if you see what I mean.

blaisealex · 27/06/2021 19:07

I'd still quite like Michael Sheen to be the next Doctor but I could also get on board with OA. Though, I really can't stand Chris Chibnall. The writing is pretty naff at the moment. And I don't like the erasure of the shows canon history. My favourite show runner was Moffat and I'd like to see the show return to a similar style of structure and writing to Moffat's era. I'm sort of loathe to watch it until Chibnall goes and I've mentally erased the last couple of series that he's been in charge of. Completing ignoring the timeless child stuff.
