A thread for those watching Season 4 of the Handmaid's Tale on Channel 4 starting this evening. There's another thread for those who have already streamed it via Hulu, so it would be good if we could keep this one free of spoilers for episodes beyond those Channel 4 has broadcast.

She didn't have time to kill Lydia if she was going to get over the track before the train.

Though I'm surprised how long it took her to get up on her feet after the HMs.

I think Lydia assumed the HM would behave, that they were broken.

Agree, though, it was a bit of a plot hole to have them all together with little security.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/07/2021 22:25

I don't think those trains can stop. They are massive, must take a long time to slow them down.

God, I'm really feeling a bit annoyed and anxious!

MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 22:26

She didn't have time to kill Lydia if she was going to get over the track before the train.

She paused for too bloody long. She should have just bonked her on the head and knocked her out so she couldn’t raise the alarm. How come June was first to cross the train tracks when she started running way after the others?

GoingGently · 04/07/2021 22:26

I had assumed Nick had planted a double agent guardian to drive the van and he deliberately left so they could escape...but it seems not

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/07/2021 22:27

Good observation, Cru. Thanks, I'd missed that.

I'm going to watch it again but fast forward the torture porn. No need to see that again.

MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 22:27

He had a really “characterful” face that guardian when he was shooting the handmaids.

Faircastle · 04/07/2021 22:28

I've just noticed that the episode is called "The Crossing".

Sophie's choice on TV now for anyone wanting a pick me up 😫

Seriously, feel to stressed to go to bed now

Faircastle · 04/07/2021 22:32

Considering that handmaids are supposed to be a valuable resource, you'd think they'd find a more effective (less fatal) method to catch escaping ones.

Clawdy · 04/07/2021 22:32

We're the handmaids run over by the train, or did they just have to stop?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 04/07/2021 22:34

I'm pretty lukewarm on Nick so that might be biasing me, but was anyone actually pleased by that snog? Regardless of onlookers it seemed weird for June to want to kiss anyone when she was despairing 10 seconds ago Confused

WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2021 22:35

I am wrung out after that. Gutted that they killed Alma & Beth, I really liked those characters.

I understand June kissing Nick, yes she would've been conflicted but, in Gilead, I think you get to a point where you take any affection or love you can get. So many women stay with abusive men for similar reasons in the real world, they've been so broken that the little tit bits of niceness become everything. I don't understand why Nick would kiss her back though with people watching, he'd be punished, surely?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 04/07/2021 22:36

At least one handmaid was hit, Alma I think, possibly two.

WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2021 22:38

I do think Elisabeth Miss did a good job in her directorial debut though. The imagery towards the end of the episode was beautiful and reminiscent of S1 with the landscape, music, slow mo etc.

WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2021 22:38

Alma & Brianna were hit by the train.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/07/2021 22:40

Agree, Witch.

WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2021 22:40

Reeling each other their names in the red Centre at the end was beautiful too, it was taken word for word from the book. Which is just proof that Margaret Atwood's writing is unbeatable.

WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2021 22:41

I'm watching Celeb Gogglebox. Don't know how the hell I'm gonna sleep tonight.
MirandaMarple · 04/07/2021 22:42

How are Lydia and June still alive? 🙄

GoingGently · 04/07/2021 22:45

@Crinkle77 yes me too! Seemed like the only suitable palette cleanser!

I've definitely overdosed on gilead this weekend... listened to loads of old podcast episodes whilst cleaning

Coconutmeg · 04/07/2021 22:46

Oh wow. Reeling from that episode.
I loved the cinematography at the end: the red gowns, the slow motion, Radiohead.

Horehound · 04/07/2021 22:48

Uft I've just read Elizabeth moss is a Scientologist.

Kids gone off her now

Horehound · 04/07/2021 22:48

Kinda*

feliznavidad2 · 04/07/2021 22:50

Maybe Elizabeth Moss just wanted the opportunity to snog Nick 🤷‍♀️
