A thread for those watching Season 4 of the Handmaid's Tale on Channel 4 starting this evening. There's another thread for those who have already streamed it via Hulu, so it would be good if we could keep this one free of spoilers for episodes beyond those Channel 4 has broadcast.

Why didn’t they steal the van?!?!

greyinganddecaying · 04/07/2021 22:17

@Horehound

What the fuck? Moira at the end?

I'm so confused now

I think she was thinking back to where they'd all met when they first became handmaidens

whatsthestory123 · 04/07/2021 22:17

enjoyed that and liked the longer length

It was a flashback.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/07/2021 22:18

I can believe they would send the rest of the handmaids to the Magdalene colony but not that they would send June with them to lead them astray AGAIN.
If they wanted to keep her breeding potential they would just have her in solitary confinement somewhere.

Justjoinedforthis · 04/07/2021 22:18

Are they over the border or just over the track? All went a bit shite towards the end..

greyinganddecaying · 04/07/2021 22:18

I remember those trains in the US, it can take 20-30 minutes to cross the level crossing so they've got a bit of time, but not sure it'll be enough to get somewhere safe.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 04/07/2021 22:19

I'm mean surely, after everything, they'd have bound their legs as well as their arms, and guarded them better than one driver and Aunt Lydia. Basically asking for them to escape!

Horehound · 04/07/2021 22:19

Oh I see, thanks Blush

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/07/2021 22:19

Harrowing.

Although the public kissing was a surprise.

MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 22:19

It doesn’t make sense that June was being transported by the Guardians to get the bus that aunt Lydia and all the others were on. Aunt Lydia was already at the place where June was being kept. And presumably all the other handmaids would have been brought there too.

As for them being transported on a wee mini bus with no locks on the back door? When all other vehicles are big black armoured yolks and June was chained in by the neck? Hmm

OytheBumbler · 04/07/2021 22:19

They really should've stolen the van, killed Lydia and the driver and then driven off to freedom. But that wouldn't help the story I suppose. Confused

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/07/2021 22:19

June and Janine both have kids in Gilead - do we know if the others did?

It maybe makes sense - let's see if they can get their daughters out.

Lydia's in trouble if June has escaped, erm, again. They'll accuse her of being in the resistance.

MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 22:20

This. She is a proven rabble rouser. They know exactly the effect she has on the others. No way would they let her near another handmaid.
Remmy123 · 04/07/2021 22:20

I'm surprised they kept the escaped handmades together.

Unrealistic but v good all the same.

Horehound · 04/07/2021 22:20

@hamstersarse

Why didn’t they steal the van?!?!
I wondered too. Did the guy have the keys?

And is Nick in trouble too given the very public kissing followed by escape?
CiaoForNiao · 04/07/2021 22:21

That was stressful. I'm all tense now Hmm

CruCru · 04/07/2021 22:21

Damn! I suppose it is sensible to finally have some “known” characters die.

But yes, it’s ridiculous that they should have such low security. Do you think Lydia will end up on the Wall?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 04/07/2021 22:21

@whatthejiggeries

Fantastic music by why didn't she kill Lydia and then electrocute the driver?
Exactly this. Why spare Aunt Lydia? She’s Gilead to the bone.
Faircastle · 04/07/2021 22:22

Having just the instrumental music over the credits rather than a song felt like an appropriate choice after that episode.

Yes this! It would have made much more sense! Also why didn't June do a deal and give up the info on the handmaids in return for Hannah being taken to Canada/Luke or something?
MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 22:23

Urgh. I’m so peeved about that episode.

GoingGently · 04/07/2021 22:24

I know it's gilead but wouldn't the train stop after ploughing down two humans?

CruCru · 04/07/2021 22:24

The instrumental music was the same as the music playing when they were getting the children to the plane.
