The Handmaid's Tale S4 at C4 pace (no spoilers from Hulu subscribers)

A thread for those watching Season 4 of the Handmaid's Tale on Channel 4 starting this evening. There's another thread for those who have already streamed it via Hulu, so it would be good if we could keep this one free of spoilers for episodes beyond those Channel 4 has broadcast.

How far away from the book is if now? I've never watched the series & I must have read the book around 20 years ago. Does it still have the original Margaret Atwood vibe?

Ooh placemarking! As per other thread, I am rewatching Series 1-3 and I'm only on S3 Ep3so I'm not watching tonight, not until I've finished all of series 3.

I love it sooo much

It was a bit disconcerting however to see in Series 1 an episode where they were wearing face masks, and where there had just been an attack on the US Capitol. Felt terrifyingly prescient.

I'd say same vibe, yes. MA is still a contributor or some such. Obviously to fill out all those episodes they've had to make up a lot of action.

Nearly finished re-watching S3. The scenes in Washington with the Handmaid's wearing masks were unnerving, particularly what was behind them. If I saw someone wearing a red mask in a shop now, I'm not sure what I'd do!

So excited for this evening, I debated buying the Hulu US subscription but want to talk about it with friends without accidentally dropping spoilers will be watching! The last we saw of June she was shot and the other hand maids were carrying her through the woods

I had considered rewatching 1-3 in advance but it was all stressful enough first time round. Hopefully there will be a bit of a flashback / reminder to refresh my memory!

The last bit of the last series was Fred and Serena in Canadian Chokey , the children’s exodus , and wounded June being carried through the woods by fellow handmaids. It could go anywhere from there. Though in a trailer I spotted Nick! (Sorry ,is that a spoiler)

I'm watching the last episode of S3 to prepare.

All those kids and when the dad and little girl recognise each other - phenomenal!

Hello. Signing in for this thread. (Thank you @Faircastle for starting it) I couldn’t remember if I had watched season 3 but thanks to @viques I now remember I did.

Looking forward to season 4. I know season 3 got a bit carried away with itself so I’m expecting much of the same from season 4 but maybe it will surprise me.

Is this a new series?

Rewatched S1-3 earlier this year in anticipation and i'm glad I did as I got to see all the nuances and little bits that get lost in memory.

How and who shot June? How were the children freed? etc

I have the subtitles at the ready to see the subtleties of the script and background mutterings (of which there are many!)
