I noticed that the last thread was full, so I hope no-one minds that I've started a new one!

Trixie and Dr Turner will be instrumental in legalising abortion in 1967, won't they?

Perhaps they can give evidence to the parliamentary Select Committee.

And Shelagh can be Very Conflicted But Adoring Nevertheless.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/05/2021 18:45

I think the widower is sniffing round Trixie a little too much.

And his bairn is growing at an astonishing rate.

Trixie will be giving him advice on puberty and nocturnal emissions next.

And his bairn is growing at an astonishing rate.

That’s almost certainly deliberate to make the relationship ‘acceptable’ when it inevitably happens!

Trouble is as he is ‘not from the area’ I’m not sure how Trixie can marry him and remain a midwife in poplar. That will be quite the backflip.

Remember there's supposed to be a month or so between episodes... So baby was born several months ago. Mother died a few weeks after baby was born.

madroid · 22/05/2021 20:15

Even a young teenage mother was required to sign the adoption papers. But it used to be policy that if the baby was destined for adoption it was removed immediately after birth.

So the teenage mum would not have been handed the baby. A mw would have been at the ready to carry it into the nursery where it would have been bottle fed from the get go. And the mother was given tablets to dry her milk, although I'm not sure what they consisted of.

Very sad how young women were basically coerced into giving up their babies. Then ostracised for having had a baby. Meanwhile of course the teenage fathers carried on with their lives just the same.

And each episode can span a few weeks as well

Evening!

Iwantacampervan · 23/05/2021 20:03

No custard creams - disaster.

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 20:07

I’d be ok with no custard creams, as long as there was still a bourbon or a ginger nut…

Maireas · 23/05/2021 20:10

Multiculturalism! Good thinking, Sr Frances!
If only Cherry could get a safe, legal abortion. Let me think...

Is it my imagination or is there a feud between Mrs H & MrsT?

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 20:18

Has Mr Aylward never been to NH before?

Maireas · 23/05/2021 20:18

I think Miss Higgins runs a very efficient regime. Sometimes Mrs Turner is a touch annoying.

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 20:21

Hope you’re all better soon Holo, otherwise we might have to send Dr T round…

Maireas · 23/05/2021 20:23

Hope you're ok, Holothane! Don't look at bits of placenta...

£100 donation in the 60s - what would that be equivalent to now?

woodhill · 23/05/2021 20:35

This is particularly irritating with The Turners being their usual annoying selves

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 20:36

About £1500 apparently

Lnix · 23/05/2021 20:38

Thanks @Sunbird24

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/05/2021 20:40

Go Trixie!!!

Maireas · 23/05/2021 20:42

These are such important issues, domestic violence, abortion, trauma, the Partition of India, but why do we need Dr Turner to mansplain it? The House of Lords ignoring women, the British mistakes in the Partition, the nature of trauma.
At least Trixie wrote the letter, not him.

Vi is being especially irritating this evening.
