Hope no one minds me starting a new thread as 4 was filled on one episode.

Ted has been the police so long that they won't necessarily have his DNA on file from him joining. He was arrested and interviewed last series so his DNA may be on the nominal database from then.
@LaganinaBubble it was because he had been arrested on suspicion of a crime already (can't remember which crime, something to do with the files in his car I think)
Buckells was under arrest for perverting the course of justice and that was why he forfeited the right to be interviewed by an officer at least one rank senior. It was pretty much the first thing Ted said in ep.4.

I can easily see the final shot being Ted taking off to Spain with his crooked millions Grin

I picture him on a tropical beach, sipping an elaborate cocktail, while a bevy of bikini-clad beauties flutters around him Grin

:o

Mother of god I’ve finished my s1-5 rewatch and caught up with all threads. Don’t know what to do with myself now 😂

Might go and watch something funny to distract myself from the agony of a five day wait for episode 5 😭

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 13/04/2021 12:25

I love LoD. I even love that you can't binge watch it - prevents spoilers - but waiting a week is almost unbearable. If there's nowt on tonight, I may have to re-watch S2.

That puts me in mind of Father Jack Grin

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 13/04/2021 12:29

I don't know about that Mysterious - I picture him in his own well-tended garden, somewhere tranquil, with a nice glass of red wine or a craft beer.

high odds they’ve got a condom full of his DNA in the freezer (still trying to get my head round that one - do they write the names on the condoms or what?)

Presumably easch goes in its own ziplock bag and is marked with the name and date with a nice marker pen from Lakeland

GrandmasNightgown · 13/04/2021 12:33

Was it quick for Buckells to be in a proper prison? I got the impression they go in holding cells during arrest/interviews for the 24/36h but then if they’re charged (as B was I think because they met the threshold) they go on remand which means proper prison? I don’t know how the system works so might be wrong though

Bacisally, once you are charged you become the responsibility of the courts, not the police and you will be remanded to a prison. So yes normal that he went straight there. Also normal for a prison to have both remand and convicted prisoners but usually in separate wings, not normal to mix them a la Banks and Buckells but that's bent staff for you

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 13/04/2021 12:36

Buckells was there to frighten him into submission. He was clearly scared witless.

As regards H and the fourth man. They mentioned Flat 4F again this week. Doesn't anybody else find that interesting? It's right next door to 4H.

Bloodypunkrockers · 13/04/2021 12:40

Jeez. I've been working this morning and there's another thread Grin

Marking place in this or so I can catch up later

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 12:42

Actually - this “other police database” would still be from England/U.K. wouldn’t it? I think Steve meant just the non-police-staff database rather than some other force as surely a nominal database is national not local.

The mention of Spain just now made me wonder if somehow the DNA is related to the fact they said in series 5 that the dodgy cyber network thingy even appeared in Spain :o I know that’s ridiculous (can’t even think of who would be in Spain yet notable enough - someone mentioned that Nige could’ve retired out there but he’s not a nominal anyway) but hey, no theory left behind :o

TBH I still think Tommy is the most likely assuming it’s an old nominal. I know we on the thread think it’s too obvious but that’s because we have all been obsessively discussing backstories etc for weeks. In the show the OCG stuff has moved way past Tommy, other than the odd mention in passing perhaps, and to most (less dedicated, clearly :o) viewers who just watch as it’s aired each year or two and don’t chat online etc, he would be a blast from the past, not someone they’ve been actively thinking about.

Honestly I think whatever twist there is it’ll have been mentioned on here at some point :o

Ooh!
IstandwithJackieWeaver · 13/04/2021 12:46

That strikes me as a Jed joke to tease us all. He's admitted he does it and puts red herrings in.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 12:47

Ah that’s interesting about the different wing for remand vs convicted. Makes sense and fits with the dodgy prison guards etc which has been shown all through the show. It’s weird they never look into that side but I guess that wouldn’t be under AC12 remit? As it’s not technically coppers?

:o at father Jack :o

GrandmasNightgown · 13/04/2021 12:50

Yes, there is only one database the NDNAD.

Presumably what Steve said was to make it clear that a) it's not a copper and b) it was another force who uploaded the nominal (someone who is on the system for reasons other than occupation) and c) when storing police DNA (and that of other crime scene workers) they don't first run it against the database to check if there were any hits, or at least they didn't when Jo joined in the late 90s

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 12:56

Aah thanks - the b) bit has made it clearer to me now.

YerGrannysNightdress · 13/04/2021 12:59

@AwkwardArnottDentonFumble it was me who mentioned that Nige could've retired to Spain, it's a proposition, not a known fact I'm afraid. When he was last shown he was mowing a very green lawn, but they do have green grass in Spain too Grin

I'm looking at the fourth individual as being really high up which is why I'm going with Osborne. Although when Ted made his speech about electing a proven liar to the highest office, that could refer to Rohan Sindwhani, as the PCC is elected by the public and is arguably the highest office because they administer the budgets and appoint the Chief Constable. Given that Gill worked for him, I'm going for those two as utterly corrupt.

Flat G would surely be the other side of the corridor, so F and H next to each other. Presuming there are properties on both sides of a corridor.

Furries · 13/04/2021 13:09

I’m SO glad I missed the deleted posts on the other thread!

My brain keeps going back to when the “Easter eggs” were revealed at the start of the start of the series. One of the rolling banner headlines on the news footage of Gail reporting read something like “house prices surge on streets with great names”. I’ve been trying to keep an eye out for location names, but it’s highly likely I’ve missed any mention so far.

I know series 7 hasn’t been confirmed/announced, but I would be REALLY surprised if the BBC didn’t commission it - it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done. Am sure they and Jed already have it agreed! So, I’m fully expecting a few answers this series, with a large cliffhanger at the end - and confirmation of the next series shortly after this one finishes.

I really wish I’d organised myself to watch series 1-5 before this one started. I’ve forgotten so much! I’d really like this “nominal” dna link to be someone who has kind of been hiding in plain sight through little series links throughout.

iklboo · 13/04/2021 13:17

Thank Mother of God I wasn't sucking diesel and missed the spoilers on the other thread.

TokyoSushi · 13/04/2021 13:19

Checking in!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 13/04/2021 13:20

I thought I'd missed the spoiler but now I realise I didn't - glad that we're taking SUCH a strict line on what a spoiler is but cross with myself for not just glazing my eyes when I saw a picture!

Hastings was very much not exonerated at the end of series 5 but it was unclear whether that was deliberate or (whisper it) not great writing. Jed M certainly said in interviews that he considered all of Hasting's answers to be 'plausible' but I think also hinted that the story may not be finished. It would feel very much in the tragic tradition to have a grand drama arc across the series that ultimately ends with the downfall of 'the king'.

The list really irritates me too - especially as one of the names, Hyde-Albert, is the same very unusual name as a female senior police officer. It doesn't feel like they'd made much effort to do anything with it at all.

In the Real World, any police officer imprisoned is automatically considered vulnerable and housed away from the rank and file of prisoners - in with sex offenders normally. So Buckells would have been nowhere near Lakewell or Banks.

I suspect the mere fact that Lakewell was seen talking to AC12 in the initial interview by the prison guard in the room was enough to mark his card - once the OCG knew contact had been made, Lakewell became a liability. The big question (which won't be answered) is why on earth Lakewell ever agreed to meet them in the first place.

peachgreen · 13/04/2021 13:27

@AwkwardArnottDentonFumble

Me too. I think Jed’s left enough unanswered for it to still be questioned but I don’t think it will be and I’d be annoyed that it was too obvious. Fallible yes definitely - the main three have all fucked up at times. I like that it makes us question where the line (lol) is between properly corrupt and just making a stupid, selfish decision.
Totally agree. I think one thing all the seasons' antagonists have had in common is that they have all been people who have crossed the line (yes lol) from "slightly bent" to "completely corrupt" all because of one stupid decision or mistake which they have then escalated and escalated. I think Jed is keen to show us that Steve, Kate and Hastings all make those mistakes too - they just make the right decisions to stop it from escalating (thus far) or have been lucky that it hasn't done. Yet. We shall see!
JaneJeffer · 13/04/2021 13:29

He may be away from the other prisoners as Lakewell was taken to his cell to be killed.
