Hope no one minds me starting a new thread as 4 was filled on one episode.

Ted has been the police so long that they won't necessarily have his DNA on file from him joining. He was arrested and interviewed last series so his DNA may be on the nominal database from then.

I like the spoiler warning. Relays the message in a subtle, barely notice it way.

@motherofgodhaudyerwheesht

A humble apology to all my fellow officers for my inadvertent spoiler comment. I turned myself in to AC12 immediately and they removed it on the previous thread. (Thanks *@HopeMumsnet*) I always RTFT, TO THE LETTER, except, obviously, in a moment of madness earlier this morning. 😳

As you were, fellas.

You need to wrap your device in bubble wrap and take it to your local ‘porny laptop disposal’ place.

That’ll do away with all evidence of any wrongdoing.

I’m still confused. I can’t tell whether, in the event of posting a spoiler, you will be questioned by a MN-er at least one rank superior? Confused

:o excellent title amendment

Right if this is going to be the proper thread - I have a question about series 5.

Are we meant to know how Ted hid half the money from Moffat? And why, initially? I don’t think Ted knew that Corbett was Anne-Marie’s son until he was already under arrest and of course the evidence was seized before that anyway. So where was it and how was he planning to deal with it before he knew?!

I’m not sure if I missed some subtext (not my strong point) or maybe we will find out this series due to the Steph stuff - but just wanted to check in case I’m missing something.

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht · 13/04/2021 11:43

Mother of God why didnt I use a burner phone 😫 Clearly as useless as Buckles and therefore couldnt possibly be bent......

----OR COULD I??????

LaganinaBubble · 13/04/2021 11:49

I'm posting so that I don't lose track of all the LoD threads!

Can anyone help me understand why Steve and Chloe were allowed to question Buckells? I think Ted said "..... you have given up the right to be questioned by a superior officer ..." but I didn't get what the reason was.

I’m a bit hazy on all of this: Moffat gave Ted the money in s5 ep4, but I think Ted wasn’t arrested till episode 5, at which point £50k was recovered. But where he hid the other £50k before giving it to Steph at the end of ep 6 is unclear.
AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 11:50

I’m also slightly concerned following my rewatch that there really is enough possibility for Ted to genuinely be H/fourth man :( I really don’t think it would be but maybe there is just enough unexplained for it to be true and he just happened to wriggle out of the situation before. Like the £50k going missing before he knew about Corbett (unless I missed something as previous post), the laptop destroying, the fact he went rogue on the undercover. And even the fact it isn’t actually guaranteed he didn’t have an affair with Anne Marie, or wasn’t involved in her murder. The
Banks visit isn’t explained (says he just got the names but...), the Palisades meet doesn’t happen, he orders Fahrenheit on John (arguably for revenge re Roisin but it could be because he was onto him).

On first airing I felt Ted was completely exonerated and was so relieved but now I’m worried it’s all just been delaying the awful truth 😭 please nooooo!!!

CupcakesK · 13/04/2021 11:51

@LaganinaBubble it was because he had been arrested on suspicion of a crime already (can't remember which crime, something to do with the files in his car I think)

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 11:52

Thanks styles I’m just trying to think where he could’ve hidden it - obv not hotel (I did just have a fleeting thought it could’ve been in the tank of the dodgy toilet 😂 but then it’s not a cistern anyway, the broken flush handle is in the wall - and it’d be a rookie mistake not to search that anyway!)

Perverting the course of justice.

But, as I gleaned from elsewhere, if Ted was an H, or even the ‘top’ H, Gill Bigeloe wouldn’t have been so keen to frame him in order to get him out of office.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 11:55

Also, unlike a lot of the other bent/possibly bent coppers being held, you never see him being roughed up in the cells. How did he get away with staying safe when everyone else gets beaten up or has shit put in their food etc. Although maybe that only happens once the others were on remand in Blackthorn and not in the holding cells during the 24/36h arrests, actually, so ignore that. 🤦🏽‍♀️

And there’s the definitely/definately thing of course 😂 really don’t know why they never said in the interview that it’s a perfectly common spelling mistake

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 11:59

Yes! I’m hoping that means it really isn’t true. I do wonder how high up they need to go in the OCG to know who the really big guns are.

Also it’s not like he’d have been reaping any benefit from being H (except perhaps the £50k before he gave it to Steph) - he loves Roisin, if he had money somehow to make life better and prevent his wife leaving him, I think he would have. He wouldn’t be living in a tiny hotel room.

It CANNOT be Ted, mother of god it just can’t. 🤬

TheVeryThing · 13/04/2021 12:00

Love these threads and am in awe at how much some of you remember from previous series.
Anyone surprised at how fast Buckells ended up in prison? No big investigation, possibility of bail or anything. Just one interview with AC-12 and straight to prison?

HarrietHardy · 13/04/2021 12:03

I was poorly yesterday and rewatched the whole of Series 1 and 2. I was subsequently exhausted and slept quite well, though with odd dreams.

S3 today?

peachgreen · 13/04/2021 12:04

I'll eat my hat if any of the main three end up bent. It just wouldn't make logical sense. I think the show has made clear that all three of them are fallible and have their weak points (money, drugs, sex) but they're not H or working with the OCG. Goodness knows who is though, I haven't a clue. All will be revealed I'm sure. I've just started a big rewatch so hoping that illuminates some things! I'd forgotten Buckells was in S1 and was so utterly hapless.

MysteriousAffairAtStyles · 13/04/2021 12:06

They mentioned that on Shrine of Duty, I think: Ted is way too skint to be H: he’s been known to have money problems for years, and it was seemingly a factor in his marriage breaking up, which clearly broke his heart. The reason he bought into Moffat’s dodgy property scheme was to try and secure a comfortable retirement for him and Roisin, but that went tits up and he was handed divorce papers.

If Ted is H, he doesn’t seem to be reaping any financial, personal or career rewards whatsoever.

MayIDestroyYou · 13/04/2021 12:07

I too am loving the extremely subtle thread title.

Good work all.

Yes, I’m rather irked that, almost immediately after being charged, Buckells is popped straight into prison with Jimmy Lakewell and Lee Banks. Hmm

I’d feel extremely cheated if one of the main 3 was in on it all. Angry
AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 12:15

Me too. I think Jed’s left enough unanswered for it to still be questioned but I don’t think it will be and I’d be annoyed that it was too obvious. Fallible yes definitely - the main three have all fucked up at times. I like that it makes us question where the line (lol) is between properly corrupt and just making a stupid, selfish decision.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 12:18

Was it quick for Buckells to be in a proper prison? I got the impression they go in holding cells during arrest/interviews for the 24/36h but then if they’re charged (as B was I think because they met the threshold) they go on remand which means proper prison? I don’t know how the system works so might be wrong though.
