Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

You are right sirvix

I’ve been fine with the stories but this series feels like they are dealing with ishoos a la 2020s.

I do think that the preachiness and modern day values on a period drama are hard work.

Maireas · 16/05/2021 19:58

@SirVixofVixHall - I agree, it's spoiled by the preachiness and worthiness. Also anachronistic words and behaviour.

SpindleWhorl · 16/05/2021 19:58

Here we go ...

Will Dr Turner invent the internet and cloning tonight?

Kylie from Corrie! Why is her child in a giant waste basket?

Ancient play pens

Mrs Higgins is wasted in the surgery, she should be miss marple.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/05/2021 20:08

Yes, it is all modern sensibilities pushed onto a costume drama. A lot of totally unbelievable dialogue.
Also unconvincing Fred betting on Germany to win, that was really out of step with both his patriotic character and the times, all the adults then had lived through the war. It was only as far away as 2001 is now.
Are the writers all about thirty ?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2021 20:08

Miss Higgins is brilliant!

SirVixofVixHall · 16/05/2021 20:09

Ooh yes ! I am fed up with this series but I love her and her twinkly eyes. She should set up a detective agency with Nurse Crane.
LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 16/05/2021 20:09

Well that's Timmy packed off to Edinburgh then....

Sunbird24 · 16/05/2021 20:09

My mum used to teach two little girls with PKU

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/05/2021 20:09

Sadly none.

My ex destroyed everything I owned. I lescaped with the torn clothes on my back. Just.

There were no fancy smart phones and that back then. No ordinary mobiles either!

On reflection that might have been a good thing...

Maireas · 16/05/2021 20:09

Indeed! Or running the Department of Health.

Jeanette's mum was married to Ashley in Corrie!

SpindleWhorl · 16/05/2021 20:11

Christ, now Vi Buckles is a bloody expert on pre-eclampsia.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/05/2021 20:12

Is that Ashley Peacock’s wife Clurrr?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/05/2021 20:13

Oops xpost glay

Maireas · 16/05/2021 20:13

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/05/2021 20:13

Now now Lucille - that’s a bold statement Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2021 20:14

The girl in the play pen has PKU.

Maireas · 16/05/2021 20:14

The man beside me? Looks like 2 metres, pet.

Maireas · 16/05/2021 20:15

What's PKU?
