Is back 18th April. I'm so glad we are getting a series this year, I find it such great escapism.

Is anyone else a fan?

South Africa I think. Where they did a Christmas special.

It was that or the Hebrides...

SoupDragon · 04/05/2021 11:09

Valerie! That's it... I knew it was an "of the time" name.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2021 11:10

And yes, it was South Africa

In the Christmas special, Sister Julienne explains to the midwives that, following the death of her grandmother in the season 9 finale, Valerie had resigned and transferred to the Hope Clinic mission in South Africa, which featured in the 2016 Christmas special

jay55 · 04/05/2021 11:34

I miss Valarie (And Barbara) as the relatively normal young woman midwife.

@jay55

I miss Valarie (And Barbara) as the relatively normal young woman midwife.
Valerie’s storyline, with her gran being the abortionist and the family fallout from her giving evidence, was so powerful. There’s nothing of that complexity in the show any more.
smallandimperfectlyformed · 04/05/2021 13:52

I was a bit distracted by the curates speech patterns in yesterday's episode, did anyone else find it a bit stilted? I enjoyed him being a bit flummoxed by Sister Monica Joan though!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 14:03

I fear he won’t be getting anyone’s heart a -fluttering.

TheLODstinkyunderpassAKATits · 04/05/2021 14:12

Really not looking forward to world cup fever in the next ep, I hope there isn't too much focus on the stupid game of ball...

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 14:43

Have no fear flower.

Dr Turner will probably be amputating someone’s leg in order to get a baby out and the story will be all about him delivering poplar’s biggest baby or somesuch.

Not even 1966 is enough to dwarf him in the storyline stakes.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/05/2021 16:39

I'm wondering when Dr Turners grown up son (i have forgotten his name ) will turn up after dropping out of university to join a hippy commune.

Taswama · 04/05/2021 16:41

It's Tim.

Maireas · 04/05/2021 16:43

Tim went to medical school. I think he discovered the covid vaccine

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 16:44

Naw. His dad did that maireas

Timmy is going to engineer world peace and eradicate germs.

Maireas · 04/05/2021 16:47

Of course. His little sister Angela developed IVF.

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 04/05/2021 16:53

Tim is in training for the World Cup squad, writing 'World Cup Willie' with Lonnie Donegan and meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury between lectures to discuss ecumenical matters.

Och, Tim, said Shelagh, indulgently, you mustn't let your studies slide! Now have some more porridge and get back to your laboratory practicals in order to devise world-changing immunisation programmes for people who are socially deprived and not wearing as much teal and mustard as us.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 16:53

May invented the move away from pounds shilling and pence and also the internet. And the national lottery.

She is shunned by the family for not going into medicine.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 16:55

May also made the move to browns and oranges in the 70s and the world followed suit.

The Turner mater /pater have never got over having to paint over the teal.

Maireas · 04/05/2021 16:56

However, she did paint every house in Mile End teal, and took on the Buckles' £1m debt caused by giving all their stock away to the poor.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 16:58

🤣🤣🤣 you win 🤣🤣🤣😍

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/05/2021 16:59

Noooo Angela is the evil 'twin' and causes the pandemics. SARS, Bird flu flu, Ebola (I know not flu!) And Covid were all her creations.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 17:00

😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

Maireas · 04/05/2021 17:01

Angela is adopted. She traces her birth parents to find they are.. Chummy and that suspicious curate.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/05/2021 17:03

Stop 😆🤣

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 04/05/2021 17:05

I waa just about to post that Timmy, driven insane by his practically perfect parents went on to invent a virus in 2020 that sweep the world just so he could invebt a vaccine and finally get one up on Dr Turner.

But I quite like the idea of Angela being the one to go rouge

Maggiesfarm · 04/05/2021 17:05

Ouch! I do think Angela will trace her birth mother eventually but doubt if Call the Midwife will still be going by the time she is 18.
