He could still have been Scottish instead.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2021 08:25

@Whatwouldscullydo, there's very little in LoD that isn't there for a good reason. Steve's ED is definitely significant in relation to that character and the effects of the assault.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/03/2021 08:33

I just keep thinking of Gareth Southgate each time I see Steve's waistcoat Grin

Dailyhandtowelwash · 29/03/2021 08:34

Ryan was a lot older than Early Years though!

TedisnotH · 29/03/2021 08:36

Jimmy Lakewell wasn't Michael Farmers solicitor, he was Nick Huntleys.
MF had the totally useless, very hairy and scruffy chap who spent most of the time half asleep. Looked like an owl.

ArnoldBee · 29/03/2021 08:43

Lakewell was mf's solicitor in his first case hence the link.

Netaporter · 29/03/2021 08:53

@CherryValanc Nige is Nigel Morton - he of the fake disability. He appeared in s1,2. He was Tony Gates best mate. He was also aware of Dot’s burner phone details (might even still have t, I can’t remember) lots of speculation online that he is the bearded man in the van..?

Whatwouldscullydo · 29/03/2021 08:54

I.hope so, I really hate it im shows they spend ages setting the scene give loads of info then when it comes to tying it all up its kinda rushed and anything that didn't fit fully into the "conclusion" is just forgotten about/left out.

I'm.hopimg this thing with farida is explained. Is she really possessive and aggressive or was she deliberately wound up to be like that as part of the bigger plan, and if so when will that become relevant in the case. I kinda think they are both trying to outdo eachother there and farida will outsmart jo much to her surprise.

squiddybear · 29/03/2021 08:55

@TedisnotH Lakewell was MF solicitor for his first sexual assault charges prior to when the series took place.

TedisnotH · 29/03/2021 08:59

@squiddybear oh yes! I'd forgotten that!

PrincessScarlett · 29/03/2021 09:17

@Whatwouldscullydo that's a good point that Kate has in fact clocked Ryan and supports the theory that she's deep undercover that Steve and Ted don't know about.

thecatsthecats · 29/03/2021 09:19

Here's my official guess on Kate and Steve. Kate is undercover, Hastings knows, Steve doesn't. Steve was made a "temp" DI, because Hastings knows she'll be coming back. Steve feels betrayed by the whole thing and ends up leaving anyway. At some point, Kate is interviewed by AC12 to keep up the cover.

storminabuttercup · 29/03/2021 09:25

One thing that's been bugging me about Ryan getting into the force more than the whole being in the OCG is how he had the qualifications to do so. In series one he never went to school and he's been in the OCG since? Surely he needs GCSEs or something? Or did the OCG make him buckle down at school to plant him in the force? Seems like a lot of hard work when they could just recruit someone already serving?

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/03/2021 09:26

I know and was twenty years since I'd taught the bearded guy. But even when I've met them again in Secondary school (for exam invigilation) I recognise their names but not their faces. Admittedly as detectives Kate and Steve would probably be better than me at facial recognition.

Yes this sounds good. Would love to see Kate interviewed by AC12. Just rewatching (with subtitles!) Ted does go a bit OTT in dissing Kate. Feels like it is more for appearances?

I read this as:

Lakewell was Mother Fucker solicitor

🙈

Probably got fake GCSEs? OCG can fake most things
wildthingsinthenight · 29/03/2021 09:31

I hate the bit where Jo shows the bloke in the pub her ID.
It was silly. What was she saying? We are police so we can't accept a drink.

Thanks.

I just couldn't get away from Love/Hate Nige - that's would be an interesting cross over Grin

Fountainsoftea · 29/03/2021 09:33

I think it's worth the effort to plant Ryan, cos he's been indoctrinated. Less risk than an already formed adult.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 29/03/2021 09:34

'Or did the OCG make him buckle down at school to plant him in the force? Seems like a lot of hard work when they could just recruit someone already serving?'

Yes it's a shame really, as a little scrote shouting bent bastard and torturing people would not have attended school and achieved any qualifications. Would have been more convincing if Ryan had been from a more stable home in my telly critic opinion, son of a policeman or politcian.

'hate the bit where Jo shows the bloke in the pub her ID.'

Yes I mean so what? Wasn't like he was selling knock off gear or something.

CherryValanc · 29/03/2021 09:40

Think that was about levelling the power playing field. Male/female moves to civilian/law enforcement. The easiest way to get someone to stop hassling them and leave them alone. Generally, women 'accepting' a drink from a man doesn't just stop at that.

You could see it building up the way he was looking them over in the earlier scenes.

devildeepbluesea · 29/03/2021 09:43

Just reading all the theories and my brain is quietly being blown, but I was wondering (cos I haven't seen it mentioned) - does anyone else remember Farida being on Roz Huntley's team? It was defo her.

wildthingsinthenight · 29/03/2021 09:45

CherryValanc I actually expected Kate to say they were a couple to put the guy off. Further drawing Jo in!

TedisnotH · 29/03/2021 09:46

Yes, I remember Farida being on Roz team.
