Channel 4 now. Anyone watching? I'm finding it really hard to watch and listen to. How the undercover police do that job talking to perverts all day using that language I don't know, what an amazing job they do though.

It's really hard to watch but I want to see the conclusion of the man they've arrested.

I've just watched it.
Just horrific the way they talk about children like a commodity.
Deeply disturbing.

HalleLouja · 10/02/2021 01:58

I haven’t watched it but my friend does it as a job. She has to pretend to be the kid and chat to the “paedos” all day. How she does it I don’t know. But she is a real hero.

TravellingTilbury · 10/02/2021 02:04

Imagine a world without peadophile scum and a world with no child porn/torture and no child trafficking. Please God let there be more awareness and stop anymore children coming to harm. It's so distressing. And lock the bastard peadophiles up for life.

TravellingTilbury · 10/02/2021 02:10

Even the dailymail has moderated it's comments ... they never do that do they? why? because they don't want elite names to be mentioned?

I'm so sorry for those of you who are first hearing about this, that's how I felt when I came across it last year. But it is so important to raise awareness :-( It's heartbreaking, but worse because it is taboo and even worse because people don't believe it is so widespread.

TravellingTilbury · 10/02/2021 02:11

For those who don't want to watch the programme, try the Blake Lively interview- still emotional and upsetting, but as graphic as a public speech allows.

IHateCoronavirus · 10/02/2021 05:30

I agree that the internet companies have a huge moral responsibility to redirecting a portion of their huge profits into clearing up dodgy shit and tightening safeguards. Not just this but an thing that can cause harm or impact the wellbeing of children, like self harm and indoctrination propaganda.
I didn’t watch the documentary and I don’t think I will. 100% the men and women who work tirelessly to bring down these evil monsters deserve a medal. I hope they are supported well, it must scar them deeply. Sad

ReluctantHomeschooler · 10/02/2021 06:18

@TravellingTilbury it’s important to understand why these offenders commit these crimes in order to work out how to stop them. Personally, I feel surgical castration would be the best way to do this. In the same way that we neuter animals.

it’s not a theory, it’s just anecdotal based on my (very limited) experience.

That's pretty much a textbook definition of a theory Confused If you're theory has some weight, then there'll be some evidence for it. I'd like to know more. My gut reaction though is that your theory smacks of craniometry (that head-measuring thing the nazis were in to) and people being guilty of a crime for no reason other than their DNA or facial features.

Why would the Daily Mail deliberately protect the story that would send their sales through the roof?

Needsmustnow · 10/02/2021 08:02

If you google it needsmust there are many psychologists discussing evidence that for a percentage of paedophiles it is a sexual preference.

If there is evidence that DNA or facial features can predict paedophilia, I would be genuinely grateful for you sharing it.

bridgetjones1 · 10/02/2021 08:08

I haven’t watched the programme and don’t think I could, but the way I look at it, these disgusting serial offenders should be locked up for life. They have effectively ended the lives of their victims (or at least the life they should have lived without this horrific abuse). You wouldn’t allow a serial killer out after a few years only for them to go on and kill again and again. There is no cure as PP have said.

Apologies @Handsoffstrikesagain, I've been tagging @ReluctantHomeschooler by starting "@ h", and I was thinking of her quote, I personally believe that paedophiles are born not made. It is a sexual preference. The reason I believe this is that I have known a few and they had some similar physical features

Needsmustnow · 10/02/2021 08:18

And I don't think it is turning in to a bun fight.

Needsmustnow · 10/02/2021 08:19

And your link doesn't seem to address the theory that paedophiles are born that way, and have physical characteristics.

PlinkPlink · 10/02/2021 08:22

@mrsbyers the first bloke they investigated got 4.5 years.
The 2nd one got a community rehab order Hmm

They said with the undercover police character of Simon, 75 engaged in conversation with him in the 1st 24hours. 11 were investigated. 3 received sentences.

On a side note, I looked up the sentencing for sex offenders. You can get a longer custodial sentence for possession of a Class A. 4 to 7 years for child abuse. 10 years for possession of Class A...
How does that even make sense?

ufucoffee · 10/02/2021 08:23

At work I give the police details of children at an address if they suspect someone there of downloading images etc. I used to do maybe once every few months. Now it's two\three a week. I watched the programme but had to mute parts because I couldn't listen. I am horrified that having images and videos of this doesn't mean automatic prison. Why not? Also, I hope those who are in prison have a thoroughly miserable time

FloconDeNeige · 10/02/2021 08:25

I saw a program once about the people tasked with ‘cleaning’ the internet; viewing and removing horrifying imagery, including of course, child sexual abuse. It’s mostly outsourced to the Philippines as Westerners aren’t prepared to do the job (understandably). There is quite a lot of research into AI and other tech to do this in place of human reviewers, as it’s just too traumatic and some develop PTSD.
