I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

I am thinking that them being mummified is a clue..

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/03/2021 09:17

Surely Fran's look is actually quite 'on trend'?

Agree about wardrobe choices though. Dean's attire is very much 'dad' style, isn't it? Liz's off-duty clothes are very frumpy I would say.

I think you're right about the mummified head being a clue...

macaronirabbit · 17/03/2021 09:20

I thought it was strange that by wearing hoodies and trying to look inconspicuous Fiona and Liz looked v conspicuous when they met on the bench ....and then Liz risked her! Confused
Nothing to see here - just 2 middle aged women having a chat!Hmm

macaronirabbit · 17/03/2021 09:20

Risked = frisked!

Cowbells · 17/03/2021 09:47

@PursuingProxemicExactitude - that's a good theory. Suppose Clive works casually for the house clearance firm...And thinks it's safe to frame a copper after he's dead. You should work in story lining for TV drama.

CherryValanc · 17/03/2021 10:09

Completely agree. Enough with the bitchy comments about clothing.
Ah now, I said it was a shame that comments of the male characters were all positive on how brilliant the actors (and no negative comments on thier dodgy wardrobe choices) are but those on the female characters were all negative comments on looks and clothing.

So it's fed up of Cassie's miserable face rather than Nicola Walker is doing a brilliant job of portraying Cassie's anger and frustrations.

Anyway best move on. I only made a passing comment (not as a criticism).

That made me laugh too, the two of the with their hoods up. Draw more attention - especially with the frisking.

I'm starting to think maybe they are all involved, but the outcome will be different for each one - because of who they are now.

footballfan1963 · 17/03/2021 10:32

What does it matter what the cast wear? I didn’t even notice Fran’s outfit, how is it relevant to the story line? It’s a shame that we’re so focussed on physical appearance.

footballfan1963 · 17/03/2021 10:33

And any comments about women’s clothing IS bitchy, sorry.

bendmeoverbackwards, television, and film, are visual media - as others have pointed out, everything we are shown by the camera is a deliberate choice made by the show's creators. Wardrobe directors and the designers of the clothes used are credited at the end. The Oscar for best costume design is hugely coveted.

But it's fine if this isn't an aspect of visual culture that you appreciate or enjoy. And I'm sorry if discussion of women's clothing is uncomfortable for you. (Stay away from the Style & Beauty area of MN!) I will however continue to talk about TV shows I'm watching using any criteria that seem meaningful or entertaining to me ...

BBC could have done with
@PursuingProxemicExactitude
help with filling the yawning gap holes in Bloodlands plot.

I do enjoy how Unforgotten makes you so conflicted about the characters. Ram is very complex. I think someone described him as having a chip on his shoulder,, but is that because people keep on throwing chips at him?
Similarly the girlfriend of Cassie's dad- Cassie sees her as a cold hearted gold digger but. GF (sorry can't recall name) said she didn't want to fall in love with a dying man.

ImAncient · 17/03/2021 12:04

@Laska2Meryls

Hmm...but Dean .. maybe.. Ram is too obviously where we are meant to look. I agree that Sunny was really brilliant in the interview scene with him and Cassie.. He looked so uncomfortable, but yes Cassie, I think is allowing her anger to get the better of her..
That’s what I said to dh last night. I wonder where we are heading with her character arc.

But then Cassie has a lot to feel angry/frustrated about; having to go back when she clearly isn’t ready; her dad’s dementia; his partner ‘taking’ dc inheritance. You can see the emotion so clearly.

Don’t get me wrong, I DO enjoy clothes and fashion. It just irks me to hear people criticising the fashion choices of others. Firstly it’s sexist, men are not judged by their clothes in the same way. And secondly it’s bloody arrogant, clothes are very much personal taste, I don’t give two fucks what others are wearing.
PursuingProxemicExactitude · 17/03/2021 12:33

Ram is very complex. I think someone described him as having a chip on his shoulder,

The 'chip' phrase is basic racist dog-whistle vocabulary - so I would hope it was placed in that character's mouth to indicate extremely bad character and that nothing he said could be trusted, despite his appearance of authority and reliability. (It was the man who had trained the police cadets.)

ImAncient · 17/03/2021 14:09

The trainee also said ‘race card’ & quite rightly was challenged by Sunny.

But he wasn’t always correct in his assertions - he said Dean was as straight as a die. We’ve seen that’s not correct so I don’t think we are meant to believe everything he says.

ImAncient · 17/03/2021 14:10

Sorry also meant to put ‘straight as a die’ in inverted commas as another direct quote.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2021 16:49

Think I noticed them as looked too short and silly

I agree. I think we were meant to think he was an old-school bigoted, narrow-minded copper and not trust him.

But no one was criticising the fashion choices of others. We were commenting on the wardrobe team's choice of outfits for a fictional character. Those are not the same thing. Confused

KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2021 18:27

I don't think any of them did it on purpose but their lives will be damaged by the investigation.

And any comments about women’s clothing IS bitchy, sorry.

This is not the actresses actual clothes though, these are the clothes the wardrobe department put the character in. That is not bitchy to comment on or make observations about. As PP said it's about what the clothes say about the character, they said it rather eloquently so I won't try and say more Grin

KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2021 18:47

I meant PP not the clothes!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/03/2021 19:32

Those who enjoy programmes like this may also enjoy Scott and Bailey - can't remember which side, sorry, but the lady police boss, Jill, is my hero.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/03/2021 19:34

My evil husband has gone out and apparently I can't watch it without him. I have to wait till him comes home.

I think you know what you have to do, Cherry

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/03/2021 19:39

I slightly interested in the religion side of Rams story. His father and brother are Sikh and wear turbans. Ram has short hair too (which could be reason for no turban). But I wonder if his dad's annoyance is due to this, rather than Ram not being a doctor.

DH and I were wondering about that from the first episode.

I've worked with a number of Sikhs, and the turban, together with the uncut hair, ia a HUGE part of their faith.
