Anyone watch this tonight?

Just catching up now, it's the same show as "Your Home Made Perfect" but you guessed it.. a garden makeover this time!

It will be on iplayer to catch up on!

They never say how the £ was spent, do they?
Whereas Garden Rescue makes it clear that the design and labour is 'free', then roughly break down the costs, incl any feature plants.

jay55 · 04/03/2021 20:17

Great prediction

TheSpottedZebra · 04/03/2021 20:18

Cue paving and planters!

TheSpottedZebra · 04/03/2021 20:20

He suggested lit arches before, Manoj.
Are arches the new bench seating round the room?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:22

I don't really like this first design. The lady says she wants to get up close to plants for photography = two raised planters?!

I hate the gravel in the centre, what a waste of space! Surely for non-gardeners he could've come up with something more interesting. It will get weedy.

It doesn't look like £30k's worth but I know patios + labour can add up.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/03/2021 20:22

That 1st design is awful

Janedownourlane · 04/03/2021 20:24

Not too keen on that, it just doesnt seem creative enough. You can see the whole garden in one look and the colours are quite bland.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:26

Haha!

I quite like the runs of arches that seem to be popular right now. I don't think that garden had enough interest for me though!

Re. weeds in the gravel, non-gardeners will simply spray it with weedkiller or use salt 😱
I wondered if misplaced gravel chips would interfere with the wheels of the chair. Maybe not.

I didn't like Manon's last garden design, the rusty Japanese scheme for the garden that had the monkey puzzle (that was chopped down 😮)

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:27

I don't think this garden is suitable either!!

GuyFawkesDay · 04/03/2021 20:28

It's a far better design though

jay55 · 04/03/2021 20:29

This second design, just know they'd not get half the features or bust the budget.

Janedownourlane · 04/03/2021 20:30

I prefer this one I think but i think they'll choose the first one. I think there's too much maintenance needed.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:31

I started a thread on self-binding gravel in the Gardening forum but it got no responses! I quite like the effect instead of paving.

The daughter's area is really bizarre in both cases! A swing seat isn't secluded and what was that about the daughter having the option to crawl away into the cupboard in the second design 😂

jay55 · 04/03/2021 20:32

Why didn't they try this self binding gravel in the mud pit of doom week.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:33

NB I don't like that grey compressed gravel - too much like tarmac. I meant Breedon gravel which is brown/warm toned!

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/03/2021 20:34

I wondered if misplaced gravel chips would interfere with the wheels of the chair. Maybe not.

I don't know why you'd choose to use gravel chips in a garden that's meant to be accessible, I would think they could be a hassle for the wheels.

And yes, just a waste of space?!

Janedownourlane · 04/03/2021 20:36

The Rich brothers always use self binding gravel and it often looks untidy as though its got lots of loose bits on the top. Ive heard that it walks into the house all the time on your shoes/pets paws.

bridgetjones1 · 04/03/2021 20:39

Both designs are crap!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:42

Thanks coveting, I wasn't sure if I was being too harsh!

I'm really disappointed in both designs. It's clear at least 50% of the couple really doesn't like the 2nd design which only leaves them with one choice. I feel the 2nd design showcased the designer (mud garden man) rather than taking the couple's garden usage into account.

I've seen much lovelier wheelchair friendly gardens on other programmes.
My abled bodied friend has a block paved garden with tall sleeper raised beds throughout and pergola supports joining them. Plenty of space for outdoor furniture and so easy to move around. It's lush! Fairly low maintenance too as you can make a single bed look decent fairly quickly.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:42

Oh I'm really surprised they went for the second design, I thought the husband hated it!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 04/03/2021 20:44

Thanks for that perspective Jane! Are the Rich bros. on Garden Rescue? I'm going to catch up with past episodes as I've never watched it and want some ideas!

Letsplough · 04/03/2021 20:44

Really preferred the first design, why do they pick this bloke every bloody week Hmm

TheSpottedZebra · 04/03/2021 20:46

I thought the husband hated it!

I think so Confused He also looks HORRIFIED by all the mess.
I thought it was a bit shittynof the designer saying he Hope's to see him with secateurs. He's been clear that he's not a gardener, and doesn't want to/doesn't have time for loads of maintenance, which is fair. And the brief was therefore for a really low-maintenance space.

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/03/2021 20:46

I quite like the second design, not sure how accessible it really is, but I did think it was a nice touch of the herbs growing through the mesh.

I feel like Tim (2nd designer) designs gardens with wildlife in mind and also seems to be keen on sustainable features, I like his designs, but I may be in the minority on here!

OP posts:
jay55 · 04/03/2021 20:46

How much do you think they'll spend?

I'm feeling a bit deflated on this one, I hoped to see innovative ideas for accessibility and neither stepped up. Neither designer seemed to hear the low maintenance, accessible brief.
