Anyone watch this tonight?

Just catching up now, it's the same show as "Your Home Made Perfect" but you guessed it.. a garden makeover this time!

It will be on iplayer to catch up on!

I was totally against artificial grass til my friend laid some in her small space. She goes out to sweep it every few days! Far better in her circs than having to keep a lawnmower etc.
So it definitely has a place.
But for big gardens and big budgets - no. They should be a clever enough designer to fit in a shed and they should spare a grand for a robot mower if the owners are dead set against upkeep.

icelollycraving · 23/02/2021 14:57

All that money and they were perching on stumps. No, not for me.

RedHotChiliChips · 23/02/2021 15:18

I used to be dead against artificial grass too. But - we have a large, partially north facing garden with several mature oak trees. Nothing grows under these trees. The area is either a quagmire or a dust bowl. And as we already have a large area covered in wood mulch, I didn't want even more of the available space covered in yet more wood mulch.

So, in the end gave in and there's a section of artificial grass now and it's much more usable space for the kids. We also have a large section of natural lawn as well as some fruit trees, fruit shrubs and other greenery to offer food and shelter for the wildlife.

Very Off topic but I am reading an interview with Angela Scanlon, the presenter of YGMP in VIP magazine ( an Irish Hello magazine ) and she says she has "...an issue with coats so I try to rotate them often."

What kind of issues can you have with coats ?

Smile

Haha this made me smile as actually I think I have a similar issue with coats, as I am always rotating my coats. I'm not sure what it is, I think I just get bored and like to have different coats available.

@7Days

Someone should make a new programme. "Grass, a Path and a Patio" The wildcard could be where they place the flower border and what they put in it. Bonus for a unobtrusive washing line. Budget strictly below 5k. Guarantee everyone would be just as happy with that
😂😂 I just watched SOS build for this wonderful house for a family with disabled mum. The garden was a small part of it and yet it had the lawn, path patio and flowerbed designed by a builder and looked fab!!
Catslovepies · 23/02/2021 21:03

I'm another one who watched episode 3 and immediately came here to see if I was mad or the 66k garden really was as truly awful as it looked. Even conceding that the plantings will look better after they mature, the garden is still scarred with loads of pointless scraggly paths that lead nowhere, far too much water taking up space and worst of all nowhere to even sit down as a family to enjoy it. For 66k I expect to have somewhere to sit that's a little more comfortable than a skinny little log for goodness sakes. It's just completely impractical. I can easily imagine each family member wandering out, looking at the garden and thinking yep, still useless and shite, then wandering back inside again. What else are they even meant to do out there? The second design was great, far better and very useable.
The couple seemed lovely and I felt quite sorry for them especially when the man said he'd had to finance the garden. Imagine spending ages paying off a massive loan for that, and having to pretend to be happy about it for the cameras!

Thewinterofdiscontent · 23/02/2021 22:03

Angela Scanlon had a great time jumping on the rocks. Maybe the family could do off ground tag?
I felt sorry for any poor wildlife that end up there. If it’s anything like my suburban “rural” retreat, the local cats will have a field day with the frogs and birds.
It’ll be brambles, nettles and stingy insects by the end of this year.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 23/02/2021 23:27

I'm crying at "Grass, a Path and a Patio" 🤣

I'd watch that!

ellyeth · 23/02/2021 23:43

It seemed incredible to me that someone would spend £66,000 on having their garden landscaped. And, much as I liked the idea of a "natural" garden, to me it looked like a neglected garden. The path was terribly ugly and it didn't look at all natural.

I think artificial grass is horrible and I believe it is very bad for the environment too.

justjuggling · 24/02/2021 15:43

£66k?? On that!?! I’m late to the conversation but just watched it on catch up and had to see if anyone felt the same as me. It looked like it needed someone to go in and do a tidy up. Muddy paths, nowhere to sit and what’s with the rocks to jump on? Can’t see the couple doing much of that as they head into retirement?! Just can’t believe they spent 66 THOUSAND POUNDS and it looked like that. 😳😳😳

SnugglySnerd · 24/02/2021 15:47

Does anyone else find themselves wondering where the washing line will go at the end of every episode? Grin

Bluebeeee · 24/02/2021 16:43

I felt really bad for the couple. Did everyone else think they looked a bit awkward and embarrassed. As did the designer. He noticed he said in a few years it will fill out a bit. Like he realised it looked bare. Perhaps it will look a lot better in the summertime. But they badly needed a patio. Also walking meandering paths would just be annoying. You just want to walk directly to your sitting area.

I do!! Grin
creepingthyme · 24/02/2021 18:08

I have come away from every single episode absolutely perplexed at the money that is spent and how the designers constantly suck air through their teeth at the 'modest budgets'. Who on their right mind spends £66k on a garden that size?! It is in no way an investment at all.

GuyFawkesDay · 24/02/2021 18:56

You'd be amazed. Our landscaper last year (we spent the modest budget sized amount and thought it a lot!) told us about their last client who went with corten steel screening at £500 a piece, spending £5k just on plants.....he was gob smacked what I achieved in a summer with £300 worth of perennials, grasses and judicious use of annuals to fill gaps.

SnugglySnerd · 24/02/2021 19:47

Glad it's not just me with the washing lines!

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2021 09:27

ellyeth I think artificial grass is horrible and I believe it is very bad for the environment too

Yes it's despicable. the world and it's wildlife is going down the drain and people with all that money do that.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/02/2021 10:26

@TitusPullo

Thank you *@covetingthepreciousthings*, I’ve had a look at Tom Massey’s Instagram. I still think the second design would have been much nicer though.

Out of interest does anyone know where the “HQ” is filmed?

www.gravetyemanor.co.uk/the-manor/the-grounds-at-gravetye-manor/ I think it’s here

I made dh watch last week’s because I still find it so shocking. I’d love one of them to say, wow 8k/20k etc is a great budget instead of looking sniffy about it not being enough,

TheSpottedZebra · 25/02/2021 20:03

It's here!

Let's play guess the actual spend (budget is £30k)

I guess: £45k

jay55 · 25/02/2021 20:03

Thirty grand! Okay so I imagine that sorting the pool will be labour intensive. But still, £30k.

How much will they actually spend?

TheSpottedZebra · 25/02/2021 20:04

Ooh, a florist and a groundsman - they're in the business!
