It’s back!!! Now with extra added Alan Carr!!!

Starts tonight. I didn’t find the first series until well after it finished and binge watched it, enjoyed following the thread on here as I did so but I was way behind the time to contribute anything.

Looking forward to enjoying this series hopefully with some viper chatter as we go along. Come on in, all opinions welcome!

I think a two day brief is far too short for the work they need to do in these things. They've had to empty out the rooms, rip out fittings, make new ones and paint/tile/ paper walls and hope things will dry in time for fitting carpets/furniture etc. At least with the Interior design challenge the rooms were already empty of furniture and nicknacks.
I hated Charlottes chalet. It looked like an old shed with the dark green paint. The wobbly edging between the two spaces was dreadful. I think her paint effect would have worked if she had a different colour behind which would have come through a bit. Maybe yellow to echo the stained glass panels?
I really liked Lindsey's chalet. Loved her mirror tiles, but I think her pastel ones would have been better more spread about and not in one area, and would have looked more like sprinkles.
I really liked Michaelas chalet but agree and outdoor rug would have been much more practical.
As for Siobhans and Paul's, I really didn't like them, but they did their brief and they looked like what they said they were going to do.
I for one am glad Charlotte went. I look forward to seeing how the rest go, but suspect Siobhan or John will win.

Mooserp · 03/03/2021 17:04

Seeing the full brief, I think Charlotte was way off.

I thought the ice cream one looked a bit like public toilets

Cocolapew · 03/03/2021 17:42

Charlotte had a decent enough brief when you see it.

MrsBobDylan · 03/03/2021 18:52

I didn't understand why Paul's won? He had just recreated an American diner, there was absolutely nothing new or re-interpreted about it. I really like him but it's clear I know nothing about interiors!

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/03/2021 19:02

I think this is the week it would have been fairer in a way to have groups so half so 'Hamptons' etc, as I think any of them could have won had they have had Diner or Tiki Bar, I think they were very strong themes and I would think quite easy to be consistent within.

Though looking at Charlottes brief? I think she did go off, not sure why she didn't go more colourful or try incorporate the stained glass.

Squiz81 · 03/03/2021 19:22

It actually kept me awake last night trying to think what theme I would pick if I had to decorate my own beach hut (I don’t even own a beach hut).

BitOfFun · 03/03/2021 20:10

Squiz, me too! I actually don't see what's wrong with a classic nautical theme; if I'm going to the trouble and expense of hiring a traditional beach hut, I want the full experience!

icelollycraving · 03/03/2021 20:14

I thought about it too! I don’t think I’d go for a full on theme, more vague, like the ice cream colour theme for example. The themed ones were v much Instagram rent a beach hut vibe.
I wouldn’t shy away from a pretty seaside theme, just without anchors and seagull crappola.

Badadabing · 03/03/2021 20:18

@unfortunateevents

Another thought, do they get time after the show to finish off those designs properly? Last night some of the work wasn't great, you could see paint on the handles of the cupboard and some of the upholstery wasn't held in place very well. Understandable when it is such a rush but if I had allowed my hut to be decorated I'd expect it to be done properly?
I have a friend in interiors who works with the trades men on the show, she said last season they had to go back to most of the rooms to fix things after filming, it's a right bodge job!
snowspider · 03/03/2021 20:18

I was in bed going over the briefs and re-designing in my head too. Though I still do this with the house I sold last year and my mum's old house too!

catwithflowers · 03/03/2021 20:23

I actually really liked Charlotte's hut but then I do like dark, strong colours. Having read the brief on her blog, I don't think she fulfilled it necessarily, but I much preferred it to Paul and Siobhan's. I liked all the other three apart from theirs actually. Loved the storage ideas in Lyndsey's and thought Michaela's hit the brief exactly and felt homely and relaxing.

LemonViolet · 03/03/2021 20:29

I’m just catching up with last nights now, looks like a fun one! I’m going to read all your comments as I watch Grin

If I was doing a beach hut for myself it would definitely have comfier seating than theirs. Something I could sit in and read/look at the view/fall asleep.

I am reminded quite often of changing rooms, both with the bodged jobs and the cheesy themes.

I agree with you, after reading the brief.
Squiz81 · 03/03/2021 22:03

As they are beach huts that you hire out the tropical theme worked quite well as a fun place for groups to hire out, but I wouldn’t want that as my regular beach hut decor.

@icelollycraving @BitOfFun Agreed. Nautical could be done nicely.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/03/2021 07:03

My idea of Hamptons (without blue) is a feeling of being light and understated luxury. That dark green looked good in theory but it sucked the light out of that part of the room. More of a feeling of being in a cave that a retreat. I really think she needed a colour that went better with the stained glass, maybe a nice mustard?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 04/03/2021 08:49

Definitely. None of the seating looked comfortable enough for me but then they all had versions of mdf with some foam attached, which is never going to hit the spot.
LadyEloise · 04/03/2021 09:18

I think the Hamptons should have been white too.
That dark green is often on the exterior- doors and shutters.
Perhaps that's what Charlotte was trying to do - Hamptons not Hamptons was her ( very stupid to my mind ) brief.
So instead of putting a green accent colour outside she put it inside and instead of it being an accent it became the main colour.
Clever thinking. But it didn't work.

Cocolapew · 04/03/2021 10:12

Siobhan did say before she started that she was aiming for a look that would be used by hen parties/for the Insta crowd etc. I presume they knew that the huts would be rented out then? It makes more sense that her and Paul's were so heavily themed then.

Twospaniels · 04/03/2021 13:47

Why did orange boy paint his whole hut turquoise only to paint over it in pink and get the turquoise spots? Waste of time and paint, he could have more easily painted turquoise spots on top of the pink.
Maybe he changed his mind about the outside colour.

Michaela’s ombre was a good idea and I liked the colour, but it didn’t flow very well.

I didn’t mind Charlotte’s but perhaps it wouldn’t have a warm feel to it on a cloudy day,

Siobahn’s was not for me at all, but can appreciate people mind find it fun for a day.

Blonde lady, ice cream, I quite liked it, it felt seasidey.

LadyEloise · 04/03/2021 14:53

Lindsey's chalet needed some pistachio and yellow tiles.

DH commented on this as he was Confused at him painting it just to get the spots, we presumed it's because it wouldn't have been able to get the perfectly colours polka dots? Maybe they'd have been tinged with pink needed more coats? Not sure.

Yes , I think they did know, Siobhan, Paul and Charlottes are all beach huts from the same rental company so their briefs were from the same person I believe.

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/03/2021 14:57

Oh and Micaelas as well was the same company that own them.

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/03/2021 15:00

Just checked on the Millies Beach Hut Instagram, and they've posted about it today explaining the production crew approached them as they wanted all huts to be on the south beach and the front row, so four of the huts were from them but the fifth hut (Lynsey's I think) the owner didn't want to be involved so wasn't through them.

They wanted them all to be on the front row to help with logistics.
