It’s back!!! Now with extra added Alan Carr!!!

Starts tonight. I didn’t find the first series until well after it finished and binge watched it, enjoyed following the thread on here as I did so but I was way behind the time to contribute anything.

Looking forward to enjoying this series hopefully with some viper chatter as we go along. Come on in, all opinions welcome!

@Maireas

It looked like a space you'd have a smear test.
Haha, absolutely. I would not be comfortable in any breakout meetings in there once I’d realised that!

Looking forward to hotels next week. Hotel rooms a lot of scope for home bedroom inspiration, hope they come up with some good stuff! I have a feeling paint on ceilings may becoming a feature each week :-)

I'm looking forward to hotels, mainly because it should be easy to google the hotel after to see if they've kept or changed the rooms after Wink

BonnesVacances · 11/02/2021 12:43

Is Series 1 available to stream anywhere? Doesn't seem to be on iPlayer.

LemonViolet · 11/02/2021 12:53

S1 is on Netflix Grin

Fab thanks. That's this afternoon sorted. Grin

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/02/2021 21:34

@BonnesVacances there's some great blog posts on S1 too to have a read of (although maybe venture carefully incase you get spoilers).

I really liked the first series, especially the shops episode!

LadyEloise · 12/02/2021 10:54

The tiered seating. Shock

jay55 · 12/02/2021 14:54

I've worked in offices where there was a football table and that was annoying enough.
Brought in as a team building exercise during a World Cup and then they kept it.

The stadium seating was very gossip girl sat on the library steps, on a Poundland budget.

Heavymetaldetector · 12/02/2021 16:26

Only just joining thread but absolutely love this show so much I just wish I had someone to sit with and bitch about stuff with...so here I am!

Charlotte must have the worst case of resting bitch , her blog is so perky. I have also terrible resting bitch face so I have sympathy. I really liked her mural, I think she really took on board what M said . I think M was so harsh to her as others got constructive criticism but I feel Charlotte got a proper telling off like she was a child - to call her lazy like that was too much. Her design was one of my favourites and I felt was more appropriate for the brief, less is more in a show home surely?

Hated the ampitheatre. I thought it might look better when finished but it was just a massive piece of plywood. It might have worked better if there was another tier? Or less deep on the top level? I dunno. But it was mental.

bibliomania · 12/02/2021 19:24

I agree Heavy, the "lazy" comment felt quite harsh and personal.

Heavymetaldetector · 12/02/2021 21:06

Supposed to say resting bitch face, not just "resting bitch"..!

absolutetelynotfabulous · 14/02/2021 09:46

I think this week's decision was the right one.

I liked the winning design. I also liked elements of the others, such as the murally thing.

All the designs seem a bit style over substance though. No one seems to have considered storage, electric points or ergonomics. And what's with the fluffy bits and pieces?

I thought the criticism of the ping-pong table was a bit ott tbh (although I was kinda pleased that full-of-himself doctor was brought down a peg).

ppeatfruit · 14/02/2021 09:57

I didn't feel sorry for Amy because at the beginning of the show she was boasting how much her tiered seating was going to win, then she lost ooops!!!!

I prefered LLB as a judge. The judges were indirectly saying that the office designs had to woo people back from their homes, after Cov. I don't reckon any fancy design would be as much appreciated as having a decent work place nursery!

bibliomania · 14/02/2021 12:33

Agree, absolutely - I want to know where I can plug in my laptop without the cables tripping people up. And whether the sun will be shining on my screen. And I want a desk light that is sufficiently bright to read documents, not mood lighting. And room for a photocopier.

NutellaEllaElla · 14/02/2021 12:58

Ah, here you are. I'll just mark my place for the next episode.

I hated the amphitheatre so much and no one gets slated like they should for painting fabric with fecking wall paint. FFS. The swings were stupid. The ping pong table was old hat - as a pp said, a la facebook in early 2000's. If he wanted to sell it as a desk, he needed to style it as a desk and have a 'oh by the way, at work parties it doubles as a table tennis table'

GoOnTwo · 14/02/2021 17:35

Charlotte is not coming across well. She finished her first design with ages to spare and it showed. I agreed with the lazy comment, her room was uninspiring.

It showed other people removing the carpet protector themselves and her calling for the Handy Manny type to come and do it for her for her than helping Barbara. She comes across as ruthless and imagine she will throw people under the bus. She definitely did better in the second round.

I think the teamwork element to challenges is tricky. Although we all need to work with people, two designers with opposing taste seems like a tv thing to stir up conflict.

LemonViolet · 14/02/2021 22:14

Very good point about the practicalities of designing an office, although obviously having the electrics re-done would be beyond the time limit & capability of the designers, it kind of makes a mockery of setting a budget and time limit at all! I guess it’s all an exercise, they’re not actual real briefs.

OP posts:
absolutetelynotfabulous · 15/02/2021 08:12

@LemonViolet

And while this progrme is great for entertainment it's not really about design, IMHO. No one seems to talk about the things that really matter such as electric points, lighting, or anything practical. But it's these things that are the most important when designing a space, not the bloody decor. Who cares about fluffy cushions when all you want is a comfy practical chair? Who cares about hanging plants when all you want is a decent desk with proper lighting that you can work at for 8 hours at a stretch?

This programme is about glorified window dressing. Creative maybe, but the designs are not fit for purpose really are they?

ufucoffee · 15/02/2021 08:18

Love love love this programme. I have zero imagination or design skill so can only marvel at these people. Even the poor woman who did the massive corner wooden thing that you needed a step ladder to be able to sit on the top level.

ppeatfruit · 15/02/2021 09:55

The thing with having real life logistics, like electrics, fitted in the rooms is that it would cost the actual owners (not to mention the producers of the show!!!!) too much to change them.

The contestants should be asked to show where they would LIKE them to be be, then the judges would have something concrete to criticise.

absolutetelynotfabulous · 15/02/2021 12:01

I agree ppeat: at least they could show that they've thought about the practicalities.

LemonViolet · 16/02/2021 20:02

Settling in for week 3: hotel rooms!
