Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

They are a bit ' Debenham's sale rail after Christmas' arnt they?

Aren't they just! But hey at least they keep interspersing the naff coat scenes with a dressing gown scene.

Think I'll keep watching though, see if it gets better. Not sure I'll convince DH to persist

Knittingnanny · 01/02/2021 22:40

I think she was cutting her hair to look like the photo of her with her son at 4 years.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2021 22:40

I want to know if the boy is hers or not so I'll carry on. It might get better.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2021 22:42

Her ' dressing gowns of doom' were quite nice.
I loved her car more though!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 01/02/2021 22:43

'But hey at least they keep interspersing the naff coat scenes with a dressing gown scene.'

Yes the dressing gown was ok and the decor. We must focus on the house interiors and ignore dbs madness and tassly coats.

Tequilasun · 01/02/2021 22:44

I enjoyed it despite the awful coats

Fluffmonkey82 · 01/02/2021 22:44

Thank you knitting nanny that answers that one for me.

Knittingnanny · 01/02/2021 22:44

I said that to my husband about it not being realistic re the school/ job etc
But I’m drawn in now as always in these dramas. Hope it has a decent proper ending though u like some I’ve got hooked on then been disappointed at the conclusion.

Knittingnanny · 01/02/2021 22:45

I’m sure I’ve read a book with this sort of storyline.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2021 22:46

Her dad had something to do with it I bet.
Her mum was horrible too.
It has intriguing bits amongst the unrealistic school scenes.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 01/02/2021 22:46

I suppose it's to clumsily signify she is trapped in the past?

Ginfordinner · 01/02/2021 22:47

and probably kept showing up at her ex's place in terrible coats.

Grin

They look like dressing gowns

Clawdy · 01/02/2021 23:27

So many silly plot lines - her wandering round school, getting a job there with no experience at all, seeing the boy everywhere in school, visiting the dad......and why did the police not come back to her with some information? Or did I miss something?

Ginfordinner · 01/02/2021 23:29

When I read the review in the Radio Times it said that the plotline was so implausible.

AtlasPine · 01/02/2021 23:34

She wore that coat so the kid would recognise her from 9 years ago! 😁 That’s what the hair cut was about anyway.

whiteroom · 01/02/2021 23:55

Not convinced yet. She somehow managed to get a music tutoring job at the school very conveniently after a 5 minute interview without any teaching experience, and possessing a sketchy job history and wearing the worst bedspread coat known to fashion. I know it's a drama but c'mon.
Channel 5 has another series starting Saturday The Disappearance with a similar theme - missing child and family secrets.

Graciebobcat · 02/02/2021 03:05

I thought it was good, and Jill Halfpenny should get a lot more TV roles (so that Keeley Hawes and Suranne Jones don't have to play all the 40 something women in TV dramas between them).

JaimeLeeCurtains · 02/02/2021 05:18

I saw an old episode of "Vera" the other night and Jill Halfpenny was in it. She's very good, even up against Brenda Blethyn.

(Btw what on earth is that accent that Blethyn does? Is it supposed to be some form of Northumbrian? Or just a bad fake Geordie? Because it's like nothing I've ever heard in the North-East.)

MrsJBaptiste · 02/02/2021 07:34

@Graciebobcat

I thought it was good, and Jill Halfpenny should get a lot more TV roles (so that Keeley Hawes and Suranne Jones don't have to play all the 40 something women in TV dramas between them).
But none of them barely crack a smile!

Yeah, granted they're either dealing with a missing son, a dead husband or a husband having an affair but they must laugh at some point!

JaimeLeeCurtains · 02/02/2021 07:46

I'd love to see a drama with all three of them in it, maybe playing old friends at a reunion, or running a detective agency or something. "Ladies' Most Miserable And Quirky Detective Agency".

Mind you they'd have to wear big name badges, possibly on their foreheads, or I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

Reedwarbler · 02/02/2021 07:47

It's implausability spoilt it for me. A quick DNA check would have finished the first episode half way through. Ridiculous. Not interested enough to watch any more.

Housewife2010 · 02/02/2021 07:56

I thought it was watchable though definitely not brilliant. Jill Halfpenny was good. ( I'm put off Suranne Jones dramas as I find her so irritating.) I do like nightly 9pm dramas. I watched it in bed and slept so well afterwards!

the80sweregreat · 02/02/2021 09:36

Yes, she could have tried to get a hair from him for a DNA test , he has plenty! Didn't think of that. I suppose she isn't thinking straight and the police seem to have dismissed it all already.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 02/02/2021 09:54

What she should be doing is watching Keeley Hawes in Finding Alice and getting ideas about DNA tests, instead of gallivanting about.

the80sweregreat · 02/02/2021 11:57

The thing I'm struggling with is the boy was growing up and going to school so close to where she lived. She didn't drive that far before spotting him in the street walking up to the school: unless the boys dad moved back to the area thinking that nobody would recognize him now even with the mark on his face? Taking a chance?
