Didn't see a thread for this. Anyone watching?

OP posts:

I really enjoyed it too. I can just about sew on a button and do a badly sewn hem.
I was fascinated by The Vivienne's make up.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/01/2021 13:43

I also get fascinated by Drag make-up . . . I can't contour to save my life.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/01/2021 14:23

The make up was almost immobile, like a mask. I was wondering how it was done.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/01/2021 15:17

I've watched them on RuPaul Captain

There's about 80 layers of slap on those faces . . . .

iklboo · 05/01/2021 15:21

@SchadenfreudePersonified @CaptainMyCaptain - The Vivienne has also had a lot of surgery, fillers etc (very open about it).

Crikey iklboo - relooks more "real" as a woman . . . Shock

2Rebecca · 05/01/2021 15:47

No one looks better with lip filler

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/01/2021 17:04

@2Rebecca

I agree! It's a horrible look.
iklboo · 05/01/2021 17:37

Schaden I know! In drag he looks like my Auntie Who Is Not Really Your Auntie But Your Nan's Friend Pat.

He did say on Drag Race U.K. it was something of a psychological issue. He's only 28!

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/01/2021 19:15

I love watching them do the make up etc on drag race, some of them are real artists but not really someone you'd ask to do your face for your wedding.

Grin Grin Grin

Exactly! Really brassy, lots of leopard skin, has buried five husbands, smokes like a chimney and is never without a glass of rum and pep, for "her health".

It fascinates me, Wax - I don't like the programme because I think a lot of it is very bitchy and misogynistic (though some of the "girls" are really sweet), but the make up is compelling to watch.

The layer upon layer, the three hours it takes, the shading and blending, then the obviously contoured areas for emphasis. I wouldn't have the time or the patience, even if I had the skill. I also think that most of them must look fabulous on stage, where the bright lighting drains colour from people's faces, but like parodies of women if they were sitting next to you. Like iklboo's Nan's Friend Pat Grin.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 11:14

I agree re the content of the programme but at the same time there is an honesty in what they do as they aren't trying to be women but a parody and whilst that can be insulting, I don't think they hate women or want to be them, it's about inventing a persona that is far removed from real life.

I see on the new series there is a trans man (was a woman) as part of the contestants which is a break away from the norm. I think a previous series had one of the contestants come out as trans in the after show but the other contestants were unhappy about it, not about the person per se, just that it's not really what the drag queen people are about.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2021 11:22

That's interesting Wax.

I don't want to derail or sour this thread by twisting the focus, but I do think that some trans agenda is also deeply homophobic, and it's interesting that drag artists may feel similarly about it.

I also know that many of the drag queens are gay, but some are straight, and it is their "job" that they share - I can see how a trans individual would blur that boundary.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/01/2021 11:29

yes, sorry OP and others, I was thinking that i was derailing as I was typing.

I enjoyed the show and enjoy drag race and bake off and glow up and throw down etc. I just love watching people do all these things so well when I'm rubbish. Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2021 12:55

Sorry Wax - I wasn't suggesting you were de-railing. I didn't;t think you were, but was worried I might be,

I'm like you - I love to watch skilled people do things I couldn't manage in a hundred years with these stupid fat fingers! Grin
