Didn't see a thread for this. Anyone watching?

Kilt looking good but not a good shirt and black socks wrong with the tweed jacket.

But then I'm not a fashion guru :) .

Love this show even though I can't sew..

moglovesmincepies · 03/01/2021 17:20

Watched both today. That horse was epic!
Missed the series this year am off to watch it!

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/01/2021 17:25

I loved Sally's dress and the story behind it. All my clothes have dog poo bags in the pockets too. The Vivienne's gold dress was wonderful too, though.

Haleeloo · 04/01/2021 11:30

Loved it! Love the Vivian & Lesley Joseph...

Sabrina & Sally were fab too

Best program on NYE

Totally agree ☺️

I recognized the brand biodegradable poobags that Sally used, made smile

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 11:38

I thought Sabrina was quite competitive and that she definitely expected herself to do better. The Vivian also very competitive and can see an application for the real thing being made.

I thought they all did amazing though.

theliverpoolone · 04/01/2021 11:54

I did chuckle when Joe Lycett called The Vivienne 'The' , like it was a first name and surname Grin

Samcro · 04/01/2021 11:59

The Vivienne came across as very nice. sad that a thread about a sewing programme can be hi jacked.

I like Joe. he lightens the mood.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 04/01/2021 12:01

I watched and have to say I much preferred the Christmas one.

I’m not sure why but I found the funnies a bit forced.

Although I’m totally partial to a kilted Patrick and I adore Joe. And I think Esme would be ruddy good fun on a night out on the rhubarb gin. Smile

PickAChew · 04/01/2021 12:02

I don't think you can accuse the BBC of shoehorning on this.

Interest in clothes✅
Lack of options on the high street for party frocks sized for 6' blokes✅

One of the contestants in the last series honed his sewing skills making drag costumes.

PickAChew · 04/01/2021 12:02

I bet esme drinks pints.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 04/01/2021 12:04

pick
Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 12:09

Your post made me scroll back as I hadn't seen any negative comments. I think people need to educate themselves. Drag Queens are not trans. They are almost exclusively gay men who dress in drag as a job or hobby. They don't want to be women and whilst it's an exaggerated and inaccurate portrayal of what actual women are, it's an act for comic effect and they came across very well.

I think the BBC does have an ultra pc agenda in terms of their programme make up etc and they don't tend to align with actual reality but that's not the fault of the people who are invited to take part.

2Rebecca · 04/01/2021 12:33

I enjoyed this. I thought The Vivienne downplayed their dressmaking experience because I watched Ru Paul's UK Drag Show and part of the show each week was designing and making an outfit and The Vivienne was excellent at that.
I would disagree that sewing from a pattern is just like flat packed furniture because the techniques involved in sewing a dressmaking pattern are far more complex than just screwing bits with an allen key and everyone doing the same pattern does mean everyone has to show they can do various stitches and steps eg gathering, using an overlocker, inserting a zip, button holes and do it quickly enough.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/01/2021 12:35

The BBC's job is to entertain so, in the celebrity specials as in the ordinary Bee, they choose a variety of people who viewers might find interesting and amusing with an eye to the demographic watching. I can sew quite well but I wouldn't bother applying to the show because I don't think I'd be very entertaining.

Haleeloo · 04/01/2021 12:41

@SoupDragon

Mount the horse Patrick!!Mount the horse!
😂😂😂😅🤣
2Rebecca · 04/01/2021 12:42

Agree, I enjoy sewing but I'm not particularly flamboyant or entertaining. I quite like it when they have less flamboyant characters on though as I can identify with them more. They need more quiet men, maybe men like Patrick don't apply as a lot of the male contestants seem very camp and extrovert. Are men just not doing tailoring in the UK any more? My generation where only the girls did dressmaking at school didn't help. It was great that the milliner Philip Treacy (born just a couple of years after me) campaigned for the boys to do dressmaking at his school.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 12:46

The one thing I did notice was that a few of the points they particularly praised Sally for (hooves and ironing board) were actually Joe's ideas, she still deserved to win but it was close with The Vivienne

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/01/2021 14:25

It's not necessarily about being flamboyant but you have to be able to chat cheerily while sewing. Claire, who won the last one, was quite a quiet, steady person but she had a very distinct style and being a lung specialist brought extra kudos when the show came to be broadcast although they couldn't have known that when they filmed it.

@PickAChew

I bet esme drinks pints.
Of snakebite . . .
2Rebecca · 04/01/2021 21:09

Bows are awful things though

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/01/2021 07:55

They are, Rebecca

An abomination.

I like pockets, though.

2Rebecca · 05/01/2021 09:38

Agree. One advantage of making clothes is the ability to ensure they have pockets

2Rebecca · 05/01/2021 09:40

Have bought some lively material in the Liberty online sale. I usually try and visit in person as I love their fabric floor but obviously can't this year

2Rebecca · 05/01/2021 09:40

Lovely
