Who's your favourite West Wing character?

I know, I know, how to chose, they're all so fabulous. But I've been considering this for many years, and keep returning to the same conclusion: mine is Toby. He's not the most charismatic, but he's so very intelligent and blisteringly sarcastic, and God help me, I just love a grumpy man.

So who's yours?

Charlie, CJ then Sam. But ask me again tomorrow and it will have changed!

And Marina, the ‘walking law suit’. Brilliant cameo / 2nd tier actor.

And I love how Toby is with her - he really respects her.

Donna. Loved watching her grow and evolve as a character

Didn’t always love Mallory. Could never fathom how she had such access to the senior staff.

I love CJ so much. I always found her relatable.

Josh is also a fab character. I love how cocky he is, and he's very believable.

If they hadn't written Mandy out, I don't think I could have watched it. She was absolutely awful and I don't believe she and Josh would ever been a couple.

So many people have recommended WW to me and I have really tried but they are all so unlikeable and annoying. I just don't get it.

How far have you watched?

I find the first half of season 1 a bit cringey, mainly because of the awful Mandy, but also because they're all a bit to earnest and goody two shoes.

But it really hits its stride towards the end of S1 and then after that it's consistently fab.

The thing about Mandy's character is that it's like she was almost written for a completely different show - one at least a decade older and much less "serious." If that makes sense.

It did seem kind of weird that some of the assistants became recurring characters and some of the others faded totally into the background.

Oh, Maaaaaaargret is the glue that holds the Bartlett administration / West Wing together after Mrs Lanningham dies.

It used to be Josh but now I'm old and cynical probably Toby!! Also I used to fancy Josh like crazy but the mature me realises he's an absolute nightmare! I identify most with Donna. Love them all!!!

She was great as Robyn in The American President

Best tv series ever! Love everybody (except Mandy S1 and Mallory was annoying). Watched it several times and CJ was my first favourite, Toby grew on me next, then loved Donna’s character development, loved Vinnick.

But the winners are: DH says Josh, Leo gets my vote. Saw him interviewed once and he was such a gent.
