I'm very thankful for all of the mandolin warnings. I find them super tempting but I am a massive klutz so it would be ridiculous to have one.

Aaargh, using a mandolin without a guard and flats of fingers against the blade. Holy fuck. The only time I missed the guard I sliced the end of my finger off.

So did I?

It was New Year's Day I may have been slightly merry . I bled like a stuck pig and gave up trying to staunch it and went to A&E after about two hours with my hand wrapped in a blood-soaked towel.

The nurse said I was lucky not to lose the entire end of my finger and that she wouldn't have a mandolin in the house because they caused some horrific injuries - much worse than mine. When I came home I googled some pictures.

She was right - I had been VERY lucky indeed to have got off so lightly!

I have been explicitly warned to Not Touch the mandolin as I would lose digits.

I have a mandolin but it has a heavy duty guard arrangement on it. Even with this it scares me.
