Danish crime drama. Maybe one for you @stumblein

Rolf Larsen a respected detective on the police force has his life brutally upended when his baby daughter goes missing :(

The first two episodes were on over the weekend on BBC4.

It was gripping, although I had a few ‘hmmm’ moments about some of the things the characters did, in a ‘no one in real life would ever actually do that!’ way. The ferry scenes were quite harrowing, we regularly travel on ferries and when my dds were babies and in my arms I always refused to take them outside in case they fell overboard, it was one of those scenarios I’d ‘see’ in my head and a huge fear of mine so I’m glad this wasn’t on then!

It’s much more atmospheric and exciting than anything I’ve watched in a while, much more gripping and fast paced than The Sister which I watched last night.

stumbledin · 27/10/2020 19:49

Thanks - yes I watched it as it is now the BBC4 saturday slot after the oh so slow Montalbano.

Have to say it all felt a bit been there, done that.

But will stick with it for next episodes to see if it picks up.

Michaelbaubles · 27/10/2020 19:50

We watched the first two, it’s a bit generic but I’m not sure that’s too much of a problem! I got major anxiety on the ferry though - no way would I ever have left the baby on the deck!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2020 21:21

Oh. How did I miss if on Saturday

Prob clashing with something else I watch

Used to love the sat bbc4 9pm drama slot

Worth a watch then ?

stumbledin · 27/10/2020 23:48

I think it is average. If a good film came up on another channel of saturday evening I would watch that.

But if nothing else, i would watch this. But as I said up thread, it seems a bit like any number of others.

And yes the baby in the pram on the ship was upsetting, but also made clear that as a plot device it was unlikely. I would think crew would have stopped him going on deck with it.

JemimaTab · 28/10/2020 00:47

I watched the first couple of eps on Saturday and quite enjoyed it so far. Will be interested to see how the various strands come together.

I’m a bit suspicious of his friend, though (who was on the ferry with him).

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/10/2020 00:57

I'm gripped!

I reckon the daughter was snatched by the red haired woman we saw very briefly passing him on deck.

FlyingFlamingo · 28/10/2020 07:55

I’m also suspicious of his friend - he’s very odd! The pram thing was weird, they were strangers at that point and he insisted that he take the pram that his wife just randomly had despite having teenagers Confused, and then they seemed very reluctant to let them leave! He’s dodgy for sure!

Michaelbaubles · 28/10/2020 08:11

Oh yeah, we’re very suspicious of the friend and wife, but also thinking it’s probably a misdirection.

I think the new car that Tadek has is the one he was trying to chase off the ferry.

AnyFucker · 28/10/2020 08:16

.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2020 19:28

Finally seen 1

Who on earth would leave a baby in a pram outside in a storm on a boat

Least take inside while he throws up

Or be sick over the side of boat. Many times I’ve done that

Blondes doesn’t have sea legs lol

Agree friend and buggy seems weird

Now to watch e2 before Tom 3

Only watching for Nicolas Bro (he who plays the strangely invested forensic friend.) He was fabulous in The Killing (2) and The Bridge (3.)

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/10/2020 20:45

So now 5yrs on. Obv she didn’t go overboard and is alive along with the missing nursery toddler

We are thinking the nuns are selling babies to order...

user1471463807 · 01/11/2020 17:24

I stumbled across this last week and am strangely hooked despite the obvious plot hole that you would never leave the baby on deck 😵 Especially as he had time to set the baby monitor.

I am also suspicious of the database friend and wife.

stumbledin · 01/11/2020 18:28

I am now more interested in the plot, but think it a shame they linked to a member of the police force through their "loss". I always think police dramas suffer when they have this sort of personal link.

They could have set up the story of stolen babies, and nuns having a sort of baby farm in some other way.

I always forget that Poland isn't in fact land locked and has ports in the north. So coming and going by ferry must seem like nothing.

And not sure why everyone is suspicious of the friend his is now staying with. But strange how the wife always starts work and mid day. Sounds very laid back. Unless of course you are working until mid night!

Not quite sure about Charlotte Rampling's character, but love the way they are jetting round Europe. Truely a European film with goodness knows how many languages.

So strange that English should be the common language when we are also making such a fuss about not being part of Europe.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/11/2020 18:38

I am also suspicious of the database friend and wife.

Well, I wasn't last week but I am now. The wife is well dodgy and I suspect data man has muddied that water by fitting up the other bloke

And the mention of the implantable defibrillator cannot have just been a throwaway line.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/11/2020 18:39

the waters

mizu · 01/11/2020 18:46

Going to start this tonight. Just finished the Belgium series 'The Twelve' but nothing beats a good Danish drama Smile

Halsall · 01/11/2020 20:40

Glad there's a thread on this, I couldn't see one at first. DH are enjoying it, mostly, although also very sceptical about the leaving-the-pram-on-the-deck bit. Why on earth wouldn't he have asked to leave the baby safely with the forensic guy's wife, especially in a terrible storm? (yep, OK, there wouldn't have been a drama, but yswim....)

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2020 22:31

Or even take inside or in toilet

Good call about the nuns. Maybe not innocent

Watched e3. Tired so will watch 4 tomorrow

Glad she didn’t have an abortion.

Did I miss mention of her bf. Did he die in the motorbike accident shown at end of e2 last week

Is that why she is single /thinking about adoption etx

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2020 22:31

If so then surely mum of bf who tried to get her have an abortion would want last link to dead son ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2020 22:52

@stumbledin I loved seeing Charlotte. Reminder me of her role in Dexter

JemimaTab · 01/11/2020 23:28

The bf’s funeral was shown right at the start of ep.3.

Still interested to see how the Polish connection fits in. It’s all pretty intriguing so far.
I’m still suspicious of the forensics friend and his wife, but not sure why.
