The series focuses on Tovey’s character – a man with a terrible secret who is (perhaps literally) haunted by the mistakes of his past.

Not sure if this link has spoilers but couldn't find the ITV one!

i thought the premise was good.
i did laugh when i saw her in the back of the car though.
i was satisfied with the ending.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 30/10/2020 07:52

There is definitely gonna be a series 2 where the baby girl is possessed but Elise, absolutely definitely!
I think the first 3 episodes deliberately mislead us into thinking Nathan might be dead, we didn't see any contact between him and Holly but last night as soon as it started they were physical, all the way through.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 30/10/2020 08:01

My take on it was, Elise actually had been haunting Bob, he wasn't just crazy like we thought, he sought Nathan out to try and put it all to rest somehow so she'd leave him alone, if you think about it, Nathan did hear her voice on the CD that Bob gave him, he just pretended he didn't. So all along there was a ghost, which explains the banging noises they kept hearing, and it confirmed it at the end when we saw Elise in the back of the car.
I think Jackie assumed that Nathan killed Bob as revenge (on behalf of Holly) so she decided to cover for him.

Samcro · 30/10/2020 08:08

well that was very disappointing.
I was expecting a spooky, it was not.
WHY did the police go round Bob's flat with the very bad lighting" would they not have got some light?
and would Nathans fingerprints not have been all over the lock up?
as for suffocating Bob(badly) that would have shown up.

Honeyroar · 30/10/2020 09:12

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide you’re right, I think.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 30/10/2020 09:33

@the80sweregreat

If Bob becomes a ghost he'll be known as' Robert To Morrow '
🤣🤣🤣🤣
HollywoodTease · 30/10/2020 12:33

I thought it should have been Bob in the back of the car at the end, not Elise.

If they'd done that, it would have meant that Bob couldn't create a ghost himself despite murdering Elise in a traumatic fashion, and it drove him mad. Nathan killed him in a traumatic fashion when he found out the truth (and realised that Bob had intended to kill him too). Which then ironically led to him actually being able to create a ghost - himself.

Boom. Plot makes sense. Which it didn't the way they did it.

stumbledin · 30/10/2020 14:25

They never explainedwhy Nathan sought out Holly. Something about seeing her making the tv plea for news of her sister? He felt he had to try and make her happy? (but actually ugh)

Bob failed to create the ghost in the traditional setting, but was personally haunted. He found Nathan to help him ???? but then saw Nathan had married Holly and that made him even more deranged??

At the end he was talking about needing to hand her remains back to her family so she could be buried and then he would be at peace. But Nathan was so obsessed to make sure Holly never found out he had not just been there but had had sex with her sister that he set out to kill Bob.

Policewoman came round to thinking Bob got what he deserved and gave him very strong hints about how to make his story water tight.

Elise is now Nathan's constant companion. But he hasn't realised. Queue series 2. Nathan not only has to save his wife / marriage but also his daughter from still unquiet Elise.

But as ever I was not that engaged and want to know where was it filmed, and where is the parents wonderful house.

How did Nathan and Holly manage to live in quite an upmarket house themselves. Wasn't he just a sound engineer or something?

Had Bob given up being a public figure because of the hauntings? ie when we first see him he is quite smart and being interviewed etc..

I think a better writer could have made it more interesting / engaging. But did like some of the filming in the wood / glade with the different lights.

And quite like drama spread over 4/5 evenings.

And it means no one can come of a thread with spoilers!

Yeah I thought maybe this was a thing, very weird though. Maybe Nathan doesn't really love Holly but wants to make her happy as some weird amend for what happened to Elise?

Her parents house was massive, probably minted and gave their only daughter lots of help with the house deposit.

God I hope they don't make a second series.

Policewoman came round to thinking Bob got what he deserved and gave him very strong hints about how to make his story water tight.

Terrible judgement from policewoman seeing as Bob and Nathan were caught on camera together on the night of the murder, and the evidence that she was alive after that was her ex boyfriend heard her but didn't see her.

Also really weird that she was Holly's maid of honour but they didn't meet until the engagement thing?!

Clawdy · 30/10/2020 18:29

Did the bit about Elise banging on the boyfriend's door get explained? Did I miss something?

Fridgeandkitchen · 30/10/2020 18:53

No. It’s infuriating. One of the worst programs I’ve seen with such guff and unanswered questions.
the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 19:12

Maybe the ex boyfriend was a ghost? 😃
We didn't even see him did we? The cast for this drama was very small.
I watched the last ten minutes again today to see if I could make any sense if it. I think Elisa will now haunt Nathan instead of Bob. He will grow his hair long and go on about the lack of ice and buy a cine camera to try and 'speak ' to her spirit. At least he already lives in a spooky looking house!
Maybe the ex will come and seek him out?

Lauradoralaura · 30/10/2020 19:25

I absolutely loved this series. Think I must be the only one. It was quite unrealistic but I guess you have to allow for artistic license!

My take on it was that Elise was haunting both Nathan and Bob but Nathan wouldn't accept it/believe it because he was so determined to hold onto Holly that nothing would stand in the way.

The end scene was showing that even though he got away with everything, he was going to have to live with Elise haunting him which may in the end be his downfall.

Lauradoralaura · 30/10/2020 19:28

I made of it that Nathan was just so determined to make Holly happy too as somehow making up for what he did.

I thought Elise banging on the window must have been her ghost.

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 19:35

I didn't dislike it. I found it intriguing and a bit silly at times but it was entertaining and I'm a fan of Russell Tovey so that was a plus. It was good it was on for four nights in a row as a week long wait means people tend to give up or forget what the plot is!
It just had a lot of plot holes but then these type of dramas or books like this often do.

MerylStropp · 30/10/2020 20:18

Whhhhhhhy did Nathan track down Holly?!
I think he was very moved when he saw her making the TV appeal just as he was about to take an overdose, and wanted to connect as he felt so guilty ... and then ended up genuinely falling for her.

And yes, definitely too many loose ends ... cue season 2!

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 20:22

Just watching an old top of the pops on bbc four and Michael Bolton was on with Bob's hair!

formerbabe · 30/10/2020 20:27

The biggest mystery was how a loser like Nathan managed to pull not one, but two beautiful, articulate women from a well to do family?

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2020 20:35

Formerbabe , Nathan obviously has ' hidden depths' !
I must admit when he looked at Elise in that car he looked so loveable and had that vulnerability about him that some might find endearing. He seemed easy to get on with . I know it all went south etc, but I can see why they would like him. Completely different to Bob who I would run from ( and I can't run !)

formerbabe · 30/10/2020 20:38

Agree about Bob, found him absolutely petrifying!

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 30/10/2020 23:39

Formerbabe, so yes to this, I totally agree! I saw your post and was like Yay, someone else thought that too! I did really enjoy the show though but was a bit perplexed at how he managed to get two gorgeous women !!

Were Nathan and Holly together in the end do you think?
It was a strange series really. Nathan was a strange character

Kinraddie · 30/10/2020 23:52

Utter shite
