What can I watch, please? I like drama, like comedy, no horror and low on violence...

I loved The Bodyguard and The Capture.

I loved The 100 and sci fi, Roadkill and Line of Duty.

I'm watching Strike but am quite disappointed by them.

What fabulous TV series am I missing!

Damages. On Amazon. Glenn Close is superb.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 24/10/2020 07:06

Detectorists.

milienhaus · 24/10/2020 07:12

If you liked The 100, maybe The Society on Netflix?

For comedy - The Good Place, Brooklyn 99.

milienhaus · 24/10/2020 07:13

For legal drama - The Good Wife

PoulePouletteEternellement · 24/10/2020 07:14

Succession.

Mad Men.

I May Destroy You.

Brassic.

Halt and Catch Fire.

I Hate Suzie

Detectorists is the loveliest thing in the world - but I can't help feeling life demands something punchier right now ...

sleepfortheweek · 24/10/2020 07:19

Jane the Virgin!! One of my fave shows ever, you'll love it

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/10/2020 07:20

The fall (Netflix) - its quite sinister but not overtly violent. As good as line of duty. Gillian Anderson is amazing in it.
Happy valley- again, sinister, not overtly gory though if I recall. Sarah Lancaster is a gem
The Missing and Baptiste- spin off of each other, can't remember which was first, both excellent.
The two Harben Corben ones on Netflix, thing one is called Safe? They are good, more tame than the others I've listed here.

We love these kind of things, but we've watched them all now, and are rewatching
Peep show from series 1. And taskmaster (which is unexpectedly glorious)

BruceAndNosh · 24/10/2020 07:23

For comedy Ghosts on BBC.
Funny and clever

Italiangreyhound · 24/10/2020 11:00

Thank you SavageBeauty, PenguindreamsofDraco. PoulePouletteEternellement

milienhaus I love Brooklyn 99.

milienhaus (great name), I loved the Good Wife, watched it all. Is it still available? I also liked the Good Fight that followed.

sleepfortheweek Thank you. Isn't Baptiste very dark, sexual violence? I thought Happy Valley was quite dark. I don't like anything about sexual abuse, child murder etc but I could be mixing it up with Red Ryding.

BruceAndNosh Thank you.

I must admit am watching Lethal White with Strike now and it is pretty good. Better than the other Strikes.

Now is a good time to watch The West Wing.

LittleTiger007 · 24/10/2020 11:56

Life on BBC iplayer now. Great drama. Brilliant writing and acting.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/10/2020 11:59

DON'T watch The Fall or Happy Valley given what you say you like/don't like!

The Fall is about a sexual predator; Happy Valley has James Norton as a psychopathic rapist and has at least one scene in it where he brutally beats Sarah Lancashire's character.

I can recommend The Mentalist which is my favourite drama of all time and there's plenty to keep you going. Castle is good fun in a similar vein of cop-teams-up-with-non-cop to solve crimes.

Brooklyn 99 - I am not usually a fan of comedy but DS introduced me to this and I love it.

Ages ago someone on here recommended Lie To Me, which was on Prime at the time (not sure if it still is) which is excellent. Has Tim Roth in it

And of course, Lucifer, which DS introduced us to over lockdown and we are loving.

Neolara · 24/10/2020 12:05

Ghosts and The detectorists have been my recent highlights. Bodies might still be on iPlayer. It was last year. It's a medical drama from about 15 years ago written by the person who wrote line of duty. It's absolutely brilliant and stands the test of time very well.

OrtamLeevz · 24/10/2020 12:08

New Tricks - from the beginning so you get into the characters.

Hamish Macbeth - for the scenery and the dog Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/10/2020 12:39

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross to be fair I got sidetracked by the OP's saying line of duty. I think LOD is quite violent as well, particularly season 5. Yes op, don't watch the fall or happy valley!!!

It's a fine line though because the dramas without the violent stuff are a bit naff aren't they? Like Strike- the Doc Marten of crime dramas..!!

What about Keeping Faith (personally didn't like it, but people have raves about it) or a lot of people have loved The Crown as well?

We watched a really good one, was it called The Widow? That was good if I recall and not too violent.
Or Dublin Murders, although that might not fit the OP's brief

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/10/2020 15:42

Strike...tbf, I'd watch Tom Burke reading the telephone directory 😂

Rainydays200 · 24/10/2020 16:40

Yes to Keeping Faith and The Crown.

Also Sex Education is just fab!

MissMarplesHandbag · 24/10/2020 16:42

I watched both series of Ghosts last night on iPlayer. Very good.

Tinseltrauma · 24/10/2020 16:55

Another vote for Bodies - I really enjoyed that. Also No Angels, currently on All 4. An irreverent drama/comedy about 4 nurses. Another one that has stood the test of time.

Italiangreyhound · 24/10/2020 22:39

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross "Ages ago someone on here recommended Lie To Me, which was on Prime at the time (not sure if it still is) which is excellent. Has Tim Roth in it"

Yes, i adore it. I love the premise and the execution. Sadly, they only made about 4 series of it.

"And of course, Lucifer, which DS introduced us to over lockdown and we are loving." Yes, watched all of Lucifer too, loved it.

"Strike...tbf, I'd watch Tom Burke reading the telephone director" I must admit I have now seen the fourth one, Lethal White and it is Amazing! So much better than the first three. They are like night and day. No idea how faithful to book. But the fourth has 4 episodes, plot and sub plot and was terribly brilliant. I am officially a fan!

We're watching The Americans on Netflix. Just stared series 6. Really enjoying it. It's about KGB agents who live and work in the USA. Set at the time of Ronald Reagan. Can be brutal but great story.

Italiangreyhound · 24/10/2020 22:46

Rainydays Thank you.

What are 'Keeping Faith' and 'The Crown' on?

MissMarplesHandbag Thank you, I guess I think of 'Rent a Ghost' when I hear that! But I loved horrible histories.

Tinseltrauma I used to be a fan of hospital drama's, Chicago Hope. Holby City and House. Trouble is they all get a bit samey. Lots of sick people getting well. I mean it's good but pradicatable.

Try shtisel on Netflix. We loved it. No sex, no violence just the trials of an extended orthodox Jewish family

MollynAlly · 25/10/2020 00:13

Sense8 brilliant I only discovered during lockdown still missing the characters LoL
