Anyone waiting for This is Us season 5? Hopefully will show in UK end of October! Anyone who hasn't watched it, I would strongly recommend it!

*in LA

I’ve been trying to post a photo but it’s not letting me. Anyway, Dan Fogelman has posted on Twitter today saying that the series ends with S6, which was when they intended it to end.

Hels20 · 15/05/2021 10:27

This series is so disappointing. Can’t see where the arc is going. But if it is ending at Series Six, still need to see how Miguel and Rebecca got together and how the kids reacted to it (think they got married when kids were late 20s). I’d still like to understand how Kate’s weight ballooned because at 20, her size seems manageable. I wonder if they are going to go back to Jack (junior) and fast forward and show his (blind) struggles, and how Kate and Toby’s daughter fares with being adopted (as being adopted is such a big thing for Randall). It is really hard to do this during Covid though but really feel this series has lost its way.

Don’t think Madison will marry Kevin - they both deserve better. They need to be in love and they never use the L word. I wonder if this series will end up with one of them jilting the other. Still think Kevin will end up with Sophie (actress permitting!)

SapatSea · 15/05/2021 10:35

Apparently (according to wiki fan) Madison's Profession is a Banker !! Shock Really?? I don't recall it being mentioned and even before being pregnant she never seemed to have to work or have financial pressures. In another section it says she volunteers at a local high school but leaves profession on that bit blank. So it still all seems a bit of a mystery.
this-is-us-nbc.fandom.com/wiki/Madison_Simons

It is Madison's house they live in. I suppose even if she is estranged from her father he could have helped her buy as he is a businessman (who travelled a lot).
I think Kevin is pretty profligate with money. He financed the play he walked out of. Bought or took a lease on trendy warehouse flat he lived in with Beth's sister, drugs and alcohol, luxury trailer he gave to Nicky, ordering all the sushi etc... He's not worked that much since The Manny - possible that he's splurged all his cash.

SapatSea · 15/05/2021 10:52

I agree Hels20 this series has been disappointing. I wonder if viewing figures have collapsed.
They have sown the seeds of doubt for Kevin over marriage in this episode. The way his ex (Beth's sister) said he fully commited to things even when they weren't what he wanted to do and then it showed Kevin wanting to watch Bridgerton but Madison wanting the GBBO and then her falling asleep and Kevin left with it on the TV but not being able to turn over as he had the baby and looking peed off. He also has the spectre of having to do work that doesn't appeal to support his family. I think reality has hit (perhaps he'll have a bit of a relapse).

Do you think Season 6 will end with the deathbed scene of Rebecca which we have seen them gathering for previously?

Lurleene · 15/05/2021 11:38

I thought it was strange that his ex Zoe was surprised to hear about the twins, and only knew about the engagement from the magazine. She is related to Beth so you would have expected her to know.

Hels20 · 15/05/2021 12:38

Agree - surely she would have heard from Beth or in fact read about it in the story about the wedding. Not realistic that there is a story about the wedding without revealing that Kevin is marrying the mother of his children...

Netaporter · 16/05/2021 08:47

I loved this weeks episode! Lots of character content, and the end scene 😭😭😭

blushroom · 16/05/2021 18:59

I think Madison's character isn't very well developed and therefore is hard to connect with.

I quite liked this week's episode but I really like Beth.

lurkingfromhome · 17/05/2021 09:32

I think the problem with series 5 is that it has been hastily rewritten to allow for covid and Mandy Moore's pregnancy so it seems disjointed and actually fairly uneventful, like they were just scrambling for any possible storyline they could film during the pandemic. I hate all the covid references that seem to be shoehorned in ("Thanks for quarantining!" etc, urgh).

I read ages ago that there was going to be a massive shift after season 4 and they would stop doing most of the flashbacks into their childhoods but instead the "now" would be the future and they'd be flashing back into the current "present", so we'd get loads more storylines on how things panned out between now and Rebecca's death. That obviously didn't happen and this series feels like a bit of a waste of time as it's not really pushing the plot any further forward.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2021 12:22

Yes weird beth didn’t mention twins

And they were in a magazine after being born that Maddison arranged

Kevin lives in that caravan trailer so no house

Sure they never mentioned Maddison’s job. I wondered what it was

Guess s5 is different due to covid

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/05/2021 20:57

New episode is up!

PerditaNitt · 20/05/2021 22:10

I really wish they would start more of the flash forwards - I feel like the big 3 childhood and early years has been done to death now - I just want to stay in the present and future.

I really hope that Nicky trying to reunite with long lost Sally doesn’t take 5 episodes. Yawnfest! I just want to learn more about grown up Jack, Hayley, the twins and deja’s pregnancy, etc. They need to freshen it up a bit now if it is all going to wrap up by season 6!

Hels20 · 20/05/2021 22:16

I thought this was a better episode than some of the others this series. I was actually cringing for Madison when they did the questions for Kevin and pleased he got the first one right. She has grown on me as a character but not really sure a bulimic would rave about red velvet cake.

I think there are signs here that Sophie and Kevin end up together again - and I think she was about to tell him that she had split from her fiancé.

I want to know how Sophie and Kevin split up and how Rebecca and Miguel ended up together and I still think Rebecca might end up with Nicky.

MariLwyd · 20/05/2021 22:24

I want to know how Sophie and Kevin split up and how Rebecca and Miguel ended up together and I still think Rebecca might end up with Nicky.

I thought how Rebecca and Miguel ended up together was covered (very quickly) ages ago. Something to do with finding him on Facebook and getting back in touch having lost contact with him after Jack died.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 20/05/2021 22:24

Omg is there a new episode?!

SapatSea · 21/05/2021 10:10

IIRC Kevin and Sophie split because he decided to go to LA to pursue acting opportunities (but ended up working a lot as a waiter) whilst she was still in Ny(?) doing her nursing degree and he didn't discuss it with her, just announced it and thought it would all work out. (he maybe also cheated on her in LA?)

When Beth's first DD was born, Rebecca posted about it on Facebook and Miguel got in touch.

I don't think Rebecca will end up with Nicky. I suspect Miguel dies before Rebecca - or we haven't been shown everyone at the death bed scene yet.

I agree with others they need to freshen it up and move on with the younger generation stories.

WellTidy · 21/05/2021 12:13

Having binge watched series 1-4 earlier this year, I really need to see more back to back episodes! I’m not used to this slow pace.

diddl · 22/05/2021 22:37

I thought that Kevin cheated & that's why they split.

What ep is everyone up to?

Netaporter · 23/05/2021 07:29

I really enjoyed this week’s ep. Lots of character content. I can’t see how we end at s6 though unless is has 30eps 🤣

JustDanceAddict · 24/05/2021 17:44

I’m up to date now, but think this series is def the worst. I’ll blame Covid, but other series were made this year and still good. Oh well, I still want to know what happens at the end w the ‘new generation’.
Agree the flashbacks have been done to death now, we need new content!!

SapatSea · 24/05/2021 20:37

I thought they were going to explore more of Malik and his baby, what with Randall advising him to let the mother see her - lots of avenue's to go down e.g. Deja feeling jealous if Malik and his ex get on, the mother wanting the baby back and Malik feeling poorly advised by Randall etc.

What about Toby and his job angst, looking after a toddler and a new born just seems to have been a breeze for him (if boring), same with Madison, she was a ditzy wreck and now is just incredibly capable and calm with twins.

This series has just felt so ponderous and slow, lacks the vitality of earlier seasons.

3CCC · 24/05/2021 21:22

I want to know how the kids reacted to Miguel & Rebecca getting together. Like flashback to when they told the kids. And also their wedding would be nice too

It has been alluded to that Kevin wasn't exactly thrilled. Can't imagine Randal being over the moon either

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/05/2021 07:37

So what will they do for childcare if Tony gets the job

Deja is preg ? Did I miss that

Hope doesn’t get worh nicky. That he too weird - dead’s husbands friend then brother

Hopefully he will find his long lost bf. But he def had a wedding ring on death bed scene

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/05/2021 07:38

Also want to see more of jack grown up

And the twins

SapatSea · 25/05/2021 09:09

Deja is preg ?

IIRC in a flash forward to a few years hence, Deja is starting med school but when she gets in the car to go home, Randall and Beth's eldest asks Deja if she has told anyone she'd pregnant.
