Anyone waiting for This is Us season 5? Hopefully will show in UK end of October! Anyone who hasn't watched it, I would strongly recommend it!

Do we find our what happens ro madison

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 25/02/2021 00:22

I've died and gone to heaven. After binging the whole 1-5 in last week, I thought 5 only had 8 episodes, and discovered there are more! The ending of 8 made me think that was it. So excited for more.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 25/02/2021 01:05

I thought that guy was a young Miguel too! I actually thought it was a really nice thing to include given how much we’ve all relied on that technology this year.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2021 07:37

Agree @MarkRuffaloCrumble

It is pretty Amazing how we send pics abs FaceTime on a phone

I still R.E.M. fondly my Nokia I had at 18 so almost 30yrs ago. Calls only. Then texts. Abs snake game

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I was kind of hoping that the birth mother would decide to keep her baby or at least have a more open adoption. So glad we have benefits in the UK that mean most mothers don't have to give up their babies for adoption simply due to lack of income. In Kate's shoes I'd want to sponsor the child to stay with the mother, not take her away when lack of income seems to be the only motivating factor for the baby to be given up.

I thought the Kate actress did a really good job when agreeing to the mother having first hold as she had a slight note of panic in her voice and eyes.

I don't think Toby and Kate are prime candidates to be adoptee parents - Kate is obese, Toby has a heart condition and they have a young child with a disability, they've not been together that long on a rocky road and they bicker constantly- surely all their medical issues and ones likely to develop would require an obscene amount of insurance money in the States, what would happen if they get ill (more likely with their conditions)? They also have a lot of issues. I guess Kev could financially bail them out but they wouldn't be top of my list if I was looking for adoptive parents.

What does Madison actually work as? She seems to have her own nice house and no money worries.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2021 13:17

When we looked into adoptee we were told non smokers if wanted an under 5 and think bmi under 30

Maybe USA is diff

AdditionalCharacter · 25/02/2021 13:23

I sobbed at the end of episode 8, purely because of the little true story they added in. Think lockdown has gotten to me.

Great casting for the older Deja, I could tell it was her, she looked like the current day actor.

Borogroves · 26/02/2021 23:39

I am loving this season so much more than the previous one. It feels like it's back on form again.

@SapatSea Insurers in the US can't charge for pre-existing health conditions. Premiums only vary according to the age or location of the person being insured so Kate's obesity and Toby's heart condition won't make a difference.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/02/2021 20:40

Oh 9 is out. I’m late

CannotOperateOnThisFailure · 01/03/2021 19:09

That was a bit filler-y.

GitswithWits · 01/03/2021 19:28

I loved This is us and binge watched the whole thing when I was ill with pneumonia last year. This year - I feel like it’s a bit of a no. Maybe I’m just being grinchy but has it got more sexist than it was?!

JorisBonson · 01/03/2021 19:29

I've purposely not read this thread as I've just watched the first episode and I'm immediately in love.

SapatSea · 02/03/2021 09:56

I think it's suffering from the covid restrictions on filming, so lots of bitty couple scenes and duologues. I'm surprised Beth hasn't left Randall - he's awful, always all about him, such a whiner - whining for a third child just after Beth has given birth, wanting the baby to be a boy.. urgh. Always makes decisions without discussing them first. He's exhausting.

Madison is so capable these days after being so needy when she was introduced. (Perhaps her storyline has been influenced by the RL actor being the partner of the showrunner after meeting on set)

SapatSea · 02/03/2021 09:56

he's exhausting

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/03/2021 13:47

Still behind. Think 10 is tomorow ?

Watching 9. Putting babies in the car

Surely isofix wasn’t about when Randall’s first baby was born years ago

And baby Hayley was swaddled so no arms abs seatbelt over them

Otherwise was good. Agree a bit fillier like but guess with covid hard not to be

EasterIssland · 04/03/2021 14:25

10 is on the 16th I think

I don't know about the US but I was working for Mothercare nineteen years ago and Isofix was around then.
BenoneBeauty · 04/03/2021 21:30

My eldest was born in the states 15 years ago and Isofix was definitely around then, and it wasn't a new invention, so assume it's been around for a lot longer than that.

I’m so glad you posted this! I thought that bit was awful, he pushed her so hard and literally on the way home from hospital fgs! And they portray him as some kind of wonderful sensitive man 🤔

And the bit where jack makes Rebecca drive on the way home after she’s just given birth to triplets and lost a baby, pull it together you man child!!

GitswithWits · 05/03/2021 09:54

Thought of something else, Kevin getting out of the car to shout at someone on the drive home from hospital with his babies in the car, madison has to sort it out and calm him down, leaving the babies in the car! She’s just had twins!
I don’t understand why he couldn’t just hold it together for her and then have a nap at home like a normal person.

I’m sure it didn’t portray the men this poorly in the other series?!

Tottington · 05/03/2021 19:54

They were all hideous in that last episode:
Jack coercing his wife into adopting a third baby right after giving birth and barely acknowledging the death of their baby. Then making her drive home... what a twat!

Randal going on about having a boy days after his wife had given birth to a girl... twat!

Kevin being such an egocentric arsehole and making it all about him! The fight with the paparazzi and madison driving home ... twat!

And also Kate... why put pressure on the birth mother days after she's given birth and in the midst of a hormone crash... why not just be kind and say "ok, your choice, but give it a couple of weeks before you make any decisions... call us if you want"! No empathy.

SapatSea · 05/03/2021 21:09

I agree Gits and Tottington. Kate was so tone deaf- she had a baby herself recently, can she not put herself in the mother's shoes and how you might feel giving up a child? Then she rabbited on when Toby said he had something he needed to tell her. He buttered her up though by saying she was "unflappable" before he dropped the redundancy clanger. I don' think Kate is "unflappable" at all. The Big 3, like their dad are total drama llamas.

BenoneBeauty · 05/03/2021 21:29

That's true @SapatSea - drama llama is very true!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2021 07:34

I am wrong about issofix

And yes all drama llarmas. What the programme is abour

But agree all men came out badly

Giving birth to triplets then driving hike coz he needed a drink. Wtf

And poor Kevin needing a nap

Didn’t he sleep on the plane

Plus how did he get on the plane with no id

I wondered this too, especially as LA isn't exactly known for its affordable housing 🤷🏻‍♀️
