Just a reminder that this fab programme is back

That people who spend £100’s a week amazingly reduce their shopping bill 😂😂

Assuming new series. Hope it is

Greg and Chris help a mum And her two boys Ditch the micro meals

What fabulous meals will they cook

What will they swap

And will they have the usual - I don’t like that - and it’s their usual brand 😂😂😂😂

I assume child 4 (Max) is not as fussy and will eat most things so doesn't make as good TV 😉

Akire · 15/09/2020 21:00

I’m not sure what the child minder friend got out of it. She apparently does all the cooking in the week and was hardly shown. I take it she can’t get paid as a child minder if she only works part time (or would effect her benefits) so the other women pays for food shop. She she gets free dinner mon to Thursday as the other family get take outs on Fridays? For looking after 3 kids for 3h after school each day?

Felt sad that the mum was yeah kids we saved £6k and the other mum would get nothing out of it!

jay55 · 15/09/2020 21:03

I did wonder if that is why the other child wasn't called in, as they are not getting a holiday. And they're no longer getting branded food as part of the deal.

RedskyAtnight · 15/09/2020 21:04

I was wondering what was in it for the childminder friend as well. Did wonder if she was getting paid, but probably unofficially so they had to say she was doing it just to help out. I think looking after 3 children every day after school in return for an evening meal (which you cook yourself) is over and above the bounds of any friendship!

I think this is what confused me too, the benefit seems to be to Mum #1, she gets afterschool childcare for the price of a few dinners, the benefit to mum #2 is that she gets fed I assume 5 nights a week...but then she's also making a contribution to the shopping as well (unless the smaller shops she was doing we're funded by mum #1?). I wonder if mum #1 pays mum #2 off the record.
Leobynature · 15/09/2020 21:09

I loved this episode and think it was great how the both women supported each other. The mom with 3 kids brought all the food and had her friend pick her children up from school. It was better when she was also helping prepare the meals with the slow cooker. Her friend enjoyed cooking for a family and her and her son did not have to worry about evening meals 4 days per week.

Akire · 15/09/2020 21:11

I mean it’s fair way to beat the can’t get paid or lose benefits trap. I totally get that, I hope Mum 1 was doing her a big shop so she could fed herself over the weekend and the rest of the meals and was then least £50 quid week better off.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/09/2020 21:11

Didn’t know her grapes or OJ 😂😂😂

What was that cauliflower rice thing?! I know many adults who wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole - let alone fussy veg-refusing kids!!

VeggieSausageRoll · 15/09/2020 23:27

What was that cauliflower rice thing?!

An abomination, that's what.

ellenanora5 · 16/09/2020 00:12

I had to stop watching after the pasta green veg thing, but I am wondering what was in it for the mum of one child.

She did the school runs and came back to her friends and cooked an evening meal for them all, the mum with three kids did a big shop at the weekend to cover all the meals yet they ate takeaway food Friday Saturday and Sunday.

We also saw mum of one doing some shopping and talking about overlapping items and how funny it was that the shopping list was left at home, so what exactly was she getting out of this arrangement, there is no way her and her childs meals for four evenings a week were equivalent to the other mums three kids being minded every day, it just doesn't add up, and did she have to do her own grocery shop to cover her weekend meals with her child???

I hope I can find it again over the next few days to watch it all, maybe that will answer my questions Grin

Ernieshere · 16/09/2020 05:36

For all the hours she spends traipsing, picking and queing in all those supermarkets when she could be at home with the kids - she could get it delivered to her door Confused

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2020 06:13

I’m assuming mum of one got paid for having the kids

To pick up and give tea so least 3hrs care a day adds up

They are over 8 so wouldn’t need to be a registered CM and more like a nanny as in the 3 kids houses

What job did mum of 3 have ? As obv could afford to spend £250 a week on shopping and takeaways

Mum of 3 was a behaviour specialist in a 2ndary school. There weren't any recipes that I liked the look of this week!

Akire · 16/09/2020 07:28

They kept saying this arrangement was two friends helping each other out, so no money was given. As Mum2 worked part time she would be getting UC or top up. The Mum1 buys food was the way around giving her stuff instead of money. Hopefully she got a large bag to get her through the weekend
Or she wasn’t get huge amount out of the deal. Except perhaps being in a warm house after school all week and her child having kids to pay with.

The only thing I thought I’d try was adding beetroot to parsnips and roasted carrots. The rest no. Ox tail was £4 per adult portion so not exactly cheap was it.

sitckmansladylove · 16/09/2020 07:29

Does anyone know when this is repeated? I can't access iplayer.

FrancesFlute · 16/09/2020 07:43

Agree wish they'd explained a bit more how the set up benefitted Megan (mum2). The kids seemed nice and polite though and very willing to try things. It annoyed me how much of a deal the mum was making saying she couldn't believe they'd tried it, retching with the leeks etc. They will just pick up on that. Felt bad for them they wouldn't have had their holiday this year!

Alabamawhirly1 · 16/09/2020 08:16

Mum of 3 was a behaviour specialist

The woman who repeatedly made negative comments about food around her "fussy eater" kids even though she wanted them to eat it - is a behavior specialist.

I think she needs a crash course in how her own behaviour effects her children's behaviour.

I too couldn't understand what the other mum was getting out of it. She was looking after her 3 kids from school pick up until diner and having to cook multiple meals. All for two dinners 5 days a week and a few snacks. Seemed like her "friend" was taking advantage, I think the show felt that too which was why they suggested she make the bulk of the dinner in the slow cooker in the morning.

cheesecrackersandchips · 16/09/2020 08:29

I do love this programme. We have the cook books.

I always liked the dietician Priya - shame she isn't on this series.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/09/2020 08:30

Why would they replace pork sausages with the veggie version, if the family aren’t vegetarian

Less processed meat, which is a known carcinogen. Probably also has more veg and fibre. Plus it doesn't have to be black or white.

I'm not vegetarian but eat quite a lot of meals without meat because I like them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2020 13:59

I like the quorn rosemary and onion But wouldn’t swap to them iyswim

Agree none of the meals I thought yummy qnd want them recipe

I think the set up was odd - they didn't really seem to have a friend vibe. Unless Megan was getting paid on the quiet, I can't see what's in it for her. She is doing a lot of work. I'd really like to know what else she gets out of this arrangement because on the face of it, Hayley is getting the main benefit.

Heptember · 16/09/2020 14:41

It was a bit of an odd episode all round I thought.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 16/09/2020 15:00

I think she needs a crash course in how her own behaviour effects her children's behaviour.

That's exactly what I was saying. Also pandering to her DC when they all had a different takeaway every day of the weekend, she's not doing them any favours by spoiling them rotten.

Of course the other mum was being paid for the arrangement, so she can still claim her benefits and the other mum gets cheap childcare -win, win.
I would like to know how much a behaviour specialist earns for her to be wasting all that money every week Confused

ageingdisgracefully · 16/09/2020 19:08

That was quite strange. Where was Max?

Goat curry? Where would you buy that??

At least I know how to pronounce "gnocchi" now. Smile
