Our Girl Thread 57 "Our Girl Revisited"

We have been following Our Girl since 2014 and although there are to be no further series, we revisit time and time again to discuss. As an alternative, we are also watching the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

Antonio has a last ditch attempt to worm his way into Georgie's affections. He's off back to the US and in his own words "is damaged goods" at the barracks.

Monk and Throbber have dobbed Cheese in with Lt Hurst.

Meanwhile, Dr Dishy arrives with good news about the little girl. He wants to build bridges with Georgie. She's not convinced. He tests the waters about seeing her. She gives him a polite brush off.

Dr Bahil has won the election.

Georgie goes to see Prof, looking nicer without his glasses.

Georgie is checking up on Prof's obs in the hospital and there's a lovely chat between them. Mimi comes in and confesses about her lies (which Prof had already sussed).

Both Georgie and Prof are living with their pasts and trying to find a new way forward.

Marie is expecting a "baby Fingers".

Mimi looks a lot happier now she has confessed about her background.

Gorgeous doesn’t do him justice.

Ah, Marie is pregnant - so there will be a baby Fingers.

Love theme plays as Mimi and Throbber get acquainted. Perhaps they're suited and he's not so bad. Kingy thinks he's all right after all.

Cheese gets his come-uppance

Prof has the whole platoon round his bed and Lt Hurst even makes an appearance. I think I warmed to him eventually too - probably when the pompous brigadier was having a go at him.

Now which one of us would like to be the brigadier's plus one at an event? At least Hurst has had the guts to decline. Seems Kingy is verging on insolence again.

Lt Hurst confesses that he sort of "loves" Two Section, in a very restrained way.

However, he certainly doesn't "love" the Brig. Love the way Lt Hurst turns him down.

Perhaps the Brig could give us all a quick rendition of "Don't go Breaking my Heart"

The flickerings of a romance between Prof and Georgie amongst the sandbags!

Elvis's ring and dog tags make their way heavenwards.

Such a lovely ending to this series.

Prof philosophises about the rights and wrongs of Afghanistan.

They sit on the roof and watch the sunset with a kite. Georgie decides to let Elvis go - and sends the kite to heaven with her engagement ring.

Prof asks her out when they get back to Manchester and she agrees.

Perhaps a happier future awaits.

Ah, beautiful sky and a lovely ending.

Yes, enjoyed that series.

OK ladies, that was a lovely watchalong even though my recording had hiccups in the first few minutes!

I'm away next week so we need to decide what we're doing the week after? Are we doing series 1 with CJ and Molly or going back to Soldier Soldier?

Still reckon Georgie will regret letting that ring go ...

She could have had it remodelled and made into something totally different.

Might have been awkward for Prof or whoever, if she always kept it and wore it, even if it was now a brooch or something. Might have been harder for her to let go of her feelings and accept someone else into her life, if it was always there reminding her.

I vote for CJ and Molly next. I feel a yearning to go back to the start. We can imagine that is the whole of the CJ and Molly story when it ends, then we've finished off everything reasonably happily. After that, we can finish off the outstanding series of Soldier, Soldier and the last one. That will gives us to time to consider whether there is any other series we could watch in between the Our Girl revisits in the future. I reckon that will see us through to the New Year.

Ok, to miss out a week and start again on 22nd.

I'm up for that Rhu. Just wondering whether we ought to do the pilot episode or not? I think I've only reviewed that the once? Easy either way whether we do or don't.

Happy to do the pilot first to get the full story. It's much grittier than the series, but sets it up nicely.

That's longer, isn't it? Is it a 90 min one?

Enjoyed that series again and helped to tie up some loose ends. Still would have liked her conversation wit the psych to be a bit longer re CJ etc.
Your ideas about watching series one and possibly the prequel sounds great. Look forward to whatever you decide. 🙂
