Jo Brand can carry the show on her own. TA makes it all about him, he’s a one tricky pony of comedy.

Schady I agree the time limits are stupid, it's that specific 'competitive' element of these programmes I find annoying.

It seems to me that unless there's a competition involved the bleedin' producers don't think it's an effin' programme. Oh and the plinky plonky 'backgound' piano music.

There's something vaguely sadistic about Tom Allen's 'humour' Jo is a 100% better

I don't like TA either. I don't think he's right for the general friendliness that is bakeoff.

Seconding langcleg, ppeatfruit and schadenfreude. He belongs elsewhere, he's not in the spirit of GBBO.

He's arch, which is very irritating and patronising and is out of place in a cosy cake show.

Rowan would make a satisfactory substitute (I know he's not a professionaal presenter, but he seems fun and pleasant).

Oh, that's a good idea. He is friendly and warm, but definitely has wit too.

Thanks Inter I wonder who we could suggest it to. Though the producers MAY have taken him up by now (I always forget it was filmed in the summer) .

I don't think Jo likes him though.
I don't mind her but I do grow weary at the age-old (self-deprecating or self-defence or actually unhelpful I can never be sure) I eat cake/look at me shtick which I'd hoped she'd stopped doing years ago.

Tom Allen is the worst! The absolute worst. So overbearing and unfunny. DH tries to put on Extra Slice and I have to leave the room, TA absolutely ruins it.

Tom Allen is dreadful. Don't watch Extra Slice because of him.

Tom Allen is a nasty sneery man. There is no place for him on TV. He has ruined extra slice, bake off professionals and the apprentice.

But the harsh comments and sneeriness are an act! It's his schtick. Can't people here see that? The people who bring their cakes to the show know he's going to be there and still volunteer for it because it's funny.

Tom Allen? The one on Bake Off The Professionals? Can't stand him and I think he has ruined The Professionals for me. The combination of him and Liam is dire.

I should probably add that I'm not a great fine of the Professionals one any way as it's far too stressful to watch. Normal Bake Off is like a warm hug.

Tom Allen is obviously marmite . I can see that it's his act Captain but that doesn't mean I have to LIKE his 'act'. I have never found humiliation of people (even if they consent to it) funny.

He does spoil Extra Slice IMO.

I can see that he's not for everyone but I don't think he's as nasty as Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle for example. Although Frankie Boyle makes some good points too.

Frankie Boyle is fucking hilarious IMO, and generally right.

Parps If you watch Extra Slice on a Friday Channel 4 you'll see him. the programme is a bit infantile it's true and COULD be better but it's quite fun until Tom Allen is on it.
