I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

Hi ppeat!

IntermittentParps · 09/10/2020 15:22

Actually, do you know me under this name? We've bumped into each other on Strictly threads before, and possibly Bake Off ones, but I can't remember when I last had an NC…

ppeatfruit · 09/10/2020 15:40

Well I'm on those threads , your username is familiar! Hello!!

iklboo · 09/10/2020 16:49

What's next week again? Our recording cut off.

Sapiophile · 09/10/2020 16:50

@IntermittentParps

I agree with ppeat, they're like a 'bridge' between the bakers and judges. They also seem to offer genuine moral support.
Oh, I agree that's their ostensible purpose, but I did wonder whether the programme would be materially altered if they weren't in it. But you're probably right that it might all feel substantially more serious if there wasn't someone floating around making remarks about baps.

I can't stand the Masterchef types of programme either. If I want stress, sweating and serious dressings-down, I can get that in my real life, thank you very much!

And Bake Off: the Professionals (or whatever it's called -- the one with the cartoon Frenchman who isn't Raymond Blanc and the tiny vitriolic attack dog Cherish Finden) is completely charmless and could probably use some knock knock jokes or funny walks.

Yes - especially the work a service one. Where Tom Kitchin jumped up little twerp starts shouting and bawling about a pea shoot being a micron off centre. Let's see you do my job with 20 minutes briefing you obnoxious nerk. The customer doesn't fecking care. They won't even notice. And if they do and complain they are twats.

Sertchgi123 · 09/10/2020 19:55

I can't stand Tom Kitchin. I used to really like Michel Roux on Masterchef the Professionals. He's even nicer in person. We ate at his restaurant and he came to our table for a chat.

I don't think I remember.

Sometimes they are so random, I wouldn't be too suprised if it was Banana Week.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/10/2020 20:13

Absolutely dying at Matt Lucas realising his joke about bagels doesn't work.

longwayoff · 09/10/2020 20:20

Dropping in to trespass here and say yes, 1. Masterchef The Professionals is awful and 2. Bring back Michel Roux, expert, civilised, professional.

Sapiophile · 09/10/2020 20:21

I’m mesmerised by Aisling Bea’s skin and have no attention for anything else...

bearlyactive · 09/10/2020 21:36

I think it's chocolate week @iklboo but I might be wrong

iklboo · 09/10/2020 21:59

Thank you @bearlyactive.

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2020 09:35

Sapiophile Yes I agree about BO The Profs The Frenchman, on it is that programme's one saving grace, he's cute! Agree about Cherish !!!! It's so awful I've given up on it completely. Those terrible "showstopper' type thingmies are unbelievable.

Even the young guy who won GBBO a few years ago can't redeem it.

longwayoff · 10/10/2020 10:43

That's what I meant Bake Off professionals not Masterchef professionals. Awful. Patisserie fans please note that Netflix has the documentary film Kings of Pastry. Real professional patissiers competing in France for the highest honour in the pastry world. It is fantastically gripping. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You will yearn for cake.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2020 08:32

longway Because we live periodically in France we sometimes watch the French version of Bake Off it's good too, they have professionals show how to REALLY make the cakes. After the amateurs have -attempted-- them. (in the same programme) not separately like the ones that Mary berry and P.H. made.

I haven't seen the one you describe, I'll try to find it.

longwayoff · 11/10/2020 13:48

Apologies all, is on Prime, not Netflix. 16 pastry chefs compete in Les Meilleurs Ouvriers de France. Have to sign up to Docsville for 7 day free trial. Remember to cancel when done. Definitely recommend ppeatfruit. Hope you enjoy it.

I can't bear Cherish.

Everyone goes on about how lovely she is, and all I think is that she really isn't.

I've often thought that I would love to see GBBO's Paul and Prue make the challenges IN THE TIME AVAILABLE!

Especially Paul. I think a lot of the time, he'd be stuffed.

iklboo · 11/10/2020 18:11

Cherish is awful. I'd be shoving her ruler right up her croquembouche. Sideways.

'Oh how I wish...'

Oh how I wish you'd shut the fudge up Chezza'.

longwayoff · 11/10/2020 20:11

She is assuredly not lovely. Benoit (?) is the only saving grace. The competitors aren't skilled enough, presenters are poor and the time constraints unfair. Have given up on it. Croquembouche though Cake Grin

pinkbalconyrailing · 11/10/2020 20:22

I really don't like matt
never liked paul

I wish they would do more bread baking though. cakes are 'easy' compared to working with yeast imo

iklboo · 11/10/2020 21:25

It's more fun as a drinking game:

Benoit makes a weird noise
Cherish says 'oh I wish'
Cherish says 'love it, love it, love it'
Cherish gets her ruler out
Tom makes unfunny innuendo
Someone drops the bake
Showstopper collapses
The scene between Tom & Liam is painfully unfunny

Feel free to add your own.

Extra Slice this week. YY to Aisling Bea’s luminous skin. The other comedian didn’t get a look in in the editing.

WTAF were those potato donuts about. Nobody in the HISTORY OF MY COUNTRY has ever used a spud to make a donut.
