I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

Marc had a motorbike accident a few years ago (five, maybe? lord I'm getting old).

CherryValanc · 07/10/2020 06:35

Is he a single dad? Did we know that?

I don't think I can reply on myself for answers as I thought it was week 2 this week!!

LadyIronDragon · 07/10/2020 08:09

Iklboo if you have the details of how your DD made that please pass them on! It's fab!

I enjoyed this week. Going to give soda bread a go.

ppeatfruit · 07/10/2020 09:23

Oh it's easy and delicious Lady I made Dan Lepard's recipe for oaten soda bread this week.

Those bloody horrible looking bagels !!! Agree with a PP who said Mary Berry wouldn't have approved of all that food colouring. So no flavour just colour yeuch. I fell asleep half way through, will watch the rest this aft.

Fizbosshoes · 07/10/2020 09:58

Did anyone else think Paul was saying he didnt like Hermines brioche because he said at the start she hadnt got time for it, and she proved him wrong....?

IntermittentParps · 07/10/2020 10:00

Is he a single dad? Did we know that?

I think a previous ep did say he lives 'with his daughters' so yes, maybe.
I was pleased for him. he had a good week and he's such a nice guy.

I'll miss Rowan; he's jolly and good-natured. His baking wasn't up to snuff though.

Justmuddlingalong · 07/10/2020 10:02

It really seems to stick in his craw that he's not the king of all things bread. Credit where credit's due seems like an alien concept to him in the bread department.

dreamingbohemian · 07/10/2020 10:04

My favourite bit was Noel saying: Listen Paul Hollywood, no one under 40 eats bread anymore Smile

Lottie reminds me a lot of Natalie Dormer

IntermittentParps · 07/10/2020 10:06

Did anyone else think Paul was saying he didnt like Hermines brioche because he said at the start she hadnt got time for it, and she proved him wrong....?
She didn't prove him wrong; he said it was underdone/underproved (can't remember exactly).

Fizbosshoes · 07/10/2020 10:41

She didn't prove him wrong; he said it was underdone/underproved (can't remember exactly).

I thought he said it wasnt a brioche (I've no idea what the difference between an enriched dough and a brioche) but Pru said she liked it

As an aside it offends me how Prus comments are seen as somehow secondary and why is a PW handshake the mark of success?

Jourdain11 · 07/10/2020 10:49

I wonder if Lottie has a sad backstory, maybe losing her parents at a young age or something? I noticed she said that she lives with her aunt, uncle and cousins...

peachescariad · 07/10/2020 10:53

Rainbow bagels....WTAF?
Rank

superoz · 07/10/2020 11:07

Usually love bread week but not this time, I just cannot abide by rainbow bagels. Just wrong on so many levels. They aren’t even flavoured so what’s the point? Just yuk.

IntermittentParps · 07/10/2020 11:20

I thought he said it wasnt a brioche
I think he meant a brioche specifically has to be left overnight (Hermine mentioned this); there are other kinds of enriched doughs, but they're not technically brioche.

IntermittentParps · 07/10/2020 11:21

Jourdain11, yes, I noticed this too. She is in contact with grandparents isn't she? They showed her 'visiting' them (at a safe distance) the other week.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2020 12:07

Tonight’s episode filled me with a desire to avoid rainbow bagels, and to know how Lottie does her eye makeup.

These are my two ambitions, too!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2020 12:09

@Fizbosshoes

Did anyone else think Paul was saying he didnt like Hermines brioche because he said at the start she hadnt got time for it, and she proved him wrong....?
I wouldn't be at all surprised . . . he is a REPTILE !
Choccyp1g · 07/10/2020 12:36

It amuses me in the technical, where they say "tastes good!"

Well, they will all taste pretty much the same, because they all have the same ingredients in the same quantities!

Sundries · 07/10/2020 13:24

I think one of the background sections did describe Marc as a 'single dad' at some point and this says so, too:

www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2020-09-15/great-british-bake-off-2020-marc-contestant/

Agreed, @dreamingbohemian -- Lottie does have a look of Natalie Dormer. I think it's the wide-set eyes. or eye shape, and a quite pointed chin, or something?

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 13:53

@Fizbosshoes

Did anyone else think Paul was saying he didnt like Hermines brioche because he said at the start she hadnt got time for it, and she proved him wrong....?
Yes. I think he'd made his mind up not to like it.
CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 13:56

@IntermittentParps

I thought he said it wasnt a brioche I think he meant a brioche specifically has to be left overnight (Hermine mentioned this); there are other kinds of enriched doughs, but they're not technically brioche.
I think Hermine said it was 'like a brioche' and he went off on one saying 'you can't do a brioche in 3 and a half hours'. It was meant to be like a brioche.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2020 15:20

PoorHermine!

Not young enough.

Not tall enough,

Not slender enough.

She'll never persuade Paul that her "like-a-brioche" bread was appropriate . . .

(BTW - have any of you had his half-baked-finish-them-off-at-home bread buns? I got some a while back. They were minging. Followed the instructions to the letter and they were rock hard. Never had this problem with any other brand.)

dreamingbohemian · 07/10/2020 16:00

Yes @Sundries I think it's all that plus she does this sideways smirking thing that ND does, which I find really endearing somehow.

Like others have said though, I think she's really taking a risk having her hair all over the place! Imagine what the judges would do if they found a hair in a cake someday.

IntermittentParps · 07/10/2020 16:09

I thought Hermine said she was making a brioche. And his point was you could make something a bit brioche-like, but not technically a brioche, in that time.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/10/2020 16:21

I'd have to listen again but I'm sure she said 'like' or 'sort of'. She should have kept quiet and let him judge what was in front of him without prejudice (brioche/like a brioche).
