I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

GBBO

Yay!! Something good on the tele to look forward to for a change

Yes, I wish they'd make them tie their hair back. Long hair always has loose hairs suspended in it too and you know some of them are going to end up in the mixer. Bleugh

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 01/10/2020 14:35

Hello!

my first post joining you for 2020, I quite like everyone this year. The dryness of Lottie and Sura really appeals to my sense of humour, I dont understand the Dave hate, hes a bit Tim Henmen-esk for my liking but he seems a nice enough guy and he did go over and speak to Sura after the slate incident, they showed that in episode 2.

I'm also rather keen on Mark(c) with the big nuts Wink

Sertchgi123 · 01/10/2020 15:36

I really like Matt Lucas.

bibliomania · 01/10/2020 17:27

I did like Noel teasing Sura about the biscuit disaster. I think she felt awful, and Noel helped cut down the drama.

Loved the Ethiopian coffee set for it's originality. Overall the task was better than the biscuit chandelier from last year.

IntermittentParps · 01/10/2020 18:05

I thought Noel's teasing went on a bit long. And maybe it's just Sura's face/manner, but I swear she was looking a bit over it by the time he'd finished.

Fizbosshoes · 01/10/2020 18:26

I thought the same. I thought it was bit mean to mention it again!

manicinsomniac · 01/10/2020 18:57

That was totally on potential rather than performance

More like personality rather than performance.

Definitely didn't seem like the right decision based on baking. But Rowan makes for great tv.

You can see it just from this thread - loads of love (and a bit of hate) for Rowan but Mak's name wasn't mentioned once, positively or negatively, until he lost.

I've loved both episodes so far. Rowan, Lottie and Dave are my favourites. I don't dislike any of them yet.

I don't really "get" Noel.
CherryValanc · 01/10/2020 20:29

Has Noel ever eaten anything? His "eating is cheating" comment made me wonder - I've not noticed either way

I picked up on this too. I assumed he has a gluten intolerance or something.

I wondered about that too. Is he dieting? He was noticeably larger when he started Bake off than in his Mighty Boosh days. I thought he looked quite good on it though.
bibliomania · 01/10/2020 21:58

I vaguely remember when he and Sandi started, they said in an interview that they weren't going to sample the bakes as they were both worried about putting on weight. I enjoy seeing Matt sample them.

I have a sweet tooth, but I feel for the judges in the technical especially - sampling the "correct" version first, then having to sample up to 12 more versions.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 01/10/2020 22:11

His "eating is cheating" comment made me uncomfortable. But that's because it was one of my anorexic sisters mantras.

manicinsomniac · 01/10/2020 22:18

Yes, 'eating is cheating' is a pro ana slogan from the 90s/00s pro ana websites. Not sure if it's used anywhere else or if it originates from those but it did make me jump to hear it again.

PennyCrayon85 · 02/10/2020 02:09

We used to say eating is cheating (as a joke!) if someone wanted to go for something to eat before a night out.

Lolaloveslemonade · 02/10/2020 05:47

We used to say ‘eating is cheating’ back in the ‘80s! When I was in my late teens /20s.

It was said when someone ate bar snacks whilst out drinking or had a big meal before drinking a lot. A full stomach helps you tolerate alcohol. ‘Eating is cheating’ meant that you couldn’t take a drink.

The second way it was used was if we were trying to lose a bit of weight. ‘Eating is cheating’ was said as a joke if someone offered you cake or chips.

Never heard of the ‘Ano’ reference.

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2020 08:49

Cherry Sorry to go on with the dropped macaroon incident but if a fly were approaching my just baked biscuits\cakes I also would quickly flap my hand at it, without thinking. Let alone if I were in a contest that 8 million people were watching!!!!

Yes Schady [grin[ Lottie for winner Grin

I think I 'get' Noel he loves EVERYBODY !!!!! His dream about Paul wearing an apron (without anything else!) was what made Sura laugh the most!

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/10/2020 09:04

sad that MAk went, i like them all, although I thought perhaps Laura should have gone,
i like Rowan, he is funny
and both Marks.
must be very hard to cook under pressure with the presenters talking to you! that is one thing that i think is so stressful for them and i wonder how they cope

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/10/2020 09:04

and perhaps the older lady

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2020 09:31

Mak was lovely on Extra Slice yesterday ,Prue admitted that he shouldn't have gone. Tom Allen 'liked' him. He was more restrained than last week.

But very silly games were played. The guests were nice.

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/10/2020 11:09

Catching up on both now.
Matt Lucas's ready, steady, go to the shops has made me laugh out loud for the last five minutes. Kids think I've lost it.
It's just exactly what I think and what I'd do (I once bought a Tesco happy birthday chocolate cake cos I knew Nigella was making one. DH came back to find me sighing contentedly, heavily pregnant at the time, with a Michael Rosen tell-tale chocolate smear on my mouth.
He went into the kitchen to make a Brew, came back with a quizzical look and said: please tell me I've not forgotten it's your birthday!!!)

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2020 13:56

Grin Sequins

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/10/2020 19:08

Well, I finally got round to finishing bake off and Mak wuz robbed and my heart is indeed broken, much as though I find Rowan endearing.

Dave had a deserved win and he reminds me physically of Brandon Flowers or a young Nigel Harman.
It's a shame Linda's texture was soft as her decoration was amazing. She has a lovely demeanour too. They are a talented bunch - that showstopper was a really hard challenge.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 04/10/2020 20:00

I agree re Lottie’s hair. It looks raggedy and is always hanging in the way so she needs to adjust it. Grim.

Mak shouldn’t have gone but this always happens. People go before their time and those who had the really bad week somehow get through [shrug].

I do quite like Matt Lucas on this though, much to my surprise.

IntermittentParps · 05/10/2020 09:48

Prue admitted that he shouldn't have gone. Really? How did she put it? And did she think someone else should have gone instead?
