I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

GBBO

Yay!! Something good on the tele to look forward to for a change

She agreed with Jo, it was on Extra Slice, I think one of the other guests had said that Rowan should've gone instead.

Alongcameacat · 05/10/2020 10:13

I don’t understand why Rowan should have gone either though. Laura was the only person who didn’t fulfil the brief. The others all attempted it. However badly they turned out, it is much harder to bake a freestanding structure than it is to stick dough around a cake stand?

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2020 10:19

Perhaps they needed to remove a male because they'd already removed a female I don't know Grin

They do all seem to be generally good bakers. Though that vile looking brightly coloured bread (on tomorrow) didn't look nice (obviously not the contestants' fault!)

I agree with this. Rowan at least has ambition, as well, even if he could do with reining it in a bit.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/10/2020 13:00

Is Laura the bigger lady?

If so I agree she should have gone.

IntermittentParps · 05/10/2020 13:24

Yes, the one who said HobNobs were posh but has an outdoor pizza oven Grin

Krook · 05/10/2020 14:03

First time joining this thread but came to say I'm loving it this year.
Faves so far are Lottie, Hermine and Rowan, although it should have been him to go rather than lovely Mak.

And Noel Grin I assumed he was a lot younger than me but he isn't which makes me feel better about having a massive girly crush

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2020 15:38

Yes Krook It really does seem better this year, perhaps it's the combination of Matt\Noel and the fact they've been in a bubble together and possibly rehearsed more therefore know one another better than they usually do. The atmosphere is cheerier. Or they're just a nice crowd of people, Marc and Mark seem lovely.

How's your toe Schady ?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/10/2020 21:18

How's your toe Schady ?

Increasingly painful - and weirdly so.

I think it's nerve damage of some sort. I have Sjorgren's Syndrome which is autoimmune and flares up and calms down, but is also associated with peripheral neuropathy.

I went through a phase where my feet felt as though they were, quite literally, burning a couple of years ago - fortunately that passed - it was blimmin' agony! I've also had periods where I lost much of the feeling in my feet (if you see mad ole bat walking round the streets stamping her feet down, that'll be me making sure that my foot is on the ground before I put my weight on it).

Now I have this toe pain which is really weird - like electric shocks. It's especially weird if the dog licks the outer edge of my foot and I get a sort of "barbed wire being pulled through flesh" pain across the bit where my toes join onto my feet (or where my feet begin to fray, depending on your perspective). It's just in two toes of one foot. It's spooky . . . Shock

Ah, that's really interesting - I have Sjogren's too and I had the exact same toes thing a few years ago. It passed after around 6 months without any interventions 👍
Jourdain11 · 05/10/2020 21:34

(& mine was also in only two toes...)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/10/2020 23:04

It's really weird, isn't it Jourdain?

It's the oddness of it that bothers me more than anything, I think (though when I had the burning pain I was blimmin' glad when that went - it was awful).

I was also just assuming that "this too will pass", as the other odd pains and feelings (not all have been painful) have gone away after a while.

According to the specialist this isn't necessarily a good thing, because it can mean that it stops hurting because the nerve is irreparably damaged.

I am hoping for a "sad face" picture in the local paper of me pointing to my toes - preferably including the dog with her tongue snaking towards the side of my foot. Grin. I shall make sure I have a badly-fitting bandage and am clutching a walking stick (I don't use one, but would hate to waste a photo opportunity).

Jourdain11 · 05/10/2020 23:56

Well, I hope it gets better in a positivel way, rather than a losing feeling type of way, very soon! I also got the no feeling in my feet thing but was associated with Raynauds in my case... many happy occasions where I've tripped over my own feet, haha. But I am generally so asymptomatic and dull that my consultant sees me as little as possible. I think she finds my lack of major organ involvement very disappointing! When she found out I was undergoing tests for blood cancer she got momentarily quite excited, in case it was linked. But it turned out to be leukaemia rather than lymphoma, which was of no interest to her Grin

Flowers and fingers crossed it will improve!

ppeatfruit · 06/10/2020 08:59

Oh dear Schady and Jourdain Wishing you both better .

It's tonight!!!!!! [cake ] Cake

PPE! I have Raynaud's, too - I wonder if the conditions are linked.

I am also on an annual MOT from the specialist unless I feel Impending Doom, then I have to ring his secretary. I'm due for my appointment in the next month or so, and I;ll mention it then.

We're pretty selfish aren't we, staying reasonably healthy in spite of everything?

No wonder the doctors get fed up with us.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/10/2020 10:05

*Oooh! Not PPE

(where the heck that came from i have NO idea)

Jourdain11 · 06/10/2020 15:17

Lol, when your phone starts correcting random words to PPE, you know it's the Age of Covid.

My consultant said Raynaud's often occurs with SS - in about 30% people who have one of the specific antibodies (I forget which one), so it is thought to be linked.

Anyway, after a long diversion OT... cake tonight!

My predictions.... Liverpool Mark for SB and Laura to go.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/10/2020 17:07

Mmmmmmm!

Cake . . . .

I wish cake was SS and RS linked . . .

Anyway BAKE OFF TONIGHT!

iklboo · 06/10/2020 17:18

DS(14) is doing food tech for his options. He made balsamic red onion focaccia and chocolate orange profiteroles this weekend.

Oh, yum!

If you want to loan him out for a day... Wink

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/10/2020 17:36

Those dishes look delicious!

He will never starve. My son is a brilliant cook, too and has been from an early age.

DD regards beans on toast as a gourmet option.

BrieAndChilli · 06/10/2020 19:06

@iklboo next time he makes foccacia get him to make a picture on it from veg. DD made this the other day and it’s so easy to make yet looks really impressive!! Would get him some extra point for his schoolwork!
