I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

@minou123 I bought them as an online 'box set' or whatever you'd call it on Amazon ages ago for dd (I think it's series 1-5 we have)

Belledan1 · 25/09/2020 15:34

They were on bbc eye player at one point the old ones. Netflix had them too.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/09/2020 19:37

@bearlyactive

Ambivalent about Paul, Noel and Matt but I'm not a fan of Prue. I only made it a few pages into her autobiography before she started talking about how she killed animals as a child.
I didn't like her before - I loathe her now!

That is really disturbing.

bearlyactive · 25/09/2020 19:40

Schadenfreude

I was so upset (I'm very sentimental about animals) and I haven't looked at her the same way since.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/09/2020 19:41

@dementedma

Don’t like Lottie already. Judgemental, much?
I took against her almost the moment she opened her arrogant mouth.
Myimaginarycathadfleas · 25/09/2020 20:09

I presume we are talking about young Pru killing animals in the context of hunting or farming, not just wanton acts of brutality?Shock

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/09/2020 20:13

Really enjoying Matt on the show - much better fit than Sandi (though normally I love her).

I also miss Mel and Sue . . .

Jackparlabane · 25/09/2020 20:47

I loved the whole show - I bet the GBBO editorial team were cringing when they found Boris was going to be doing a speech just before, turning a mild humorous sketch into biting satire.

I've usually hated Matt Lucas but he did well in Dr Who and seems to be Noel's new protégé in GBBO, and it works. Comparing Sandi on QI to GBBO, I think she just didn't enjoy Bake Off so much, for whatever reason.

Lottie's first intro was annoying but then she explained more context and I decided she was OK. I like all of them but it seemed to be the right decisions made.

Sleepinyourofficeinstead · 25/09/2020 23:02

FFS at posters already disliking the beautiful, articulate, funny young woman based on precisely nothing!

EnvyEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy

Oh no wait, it's her long hair and her arrogance apparently, that'll be it Confused

Anyway, that was a good start to the series.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2020 08:03

Sleepy - have you never met us?

This is traditional.

It is part of the Whole Bake-Off Experience. In two weeks we'll all be saying "Gosh! Lottie's lovely! I don't know how I could have been so wrong! But as for X - I thought they were a delight and look at what they've done!"

We are very fickle.

However, good or bad, Lottie should keep that hair fastened back - it's dreadfully unhygienic, and would make for avery off-putting episode if Paul or Prue had to extract a 2' long strand of her silken tresses from between there teeth.

bibliomania · 26/09/2020 08:25

Agree that Lottie's hair needs to be tied back - knew Mumsnet would comment I don't dislike her. It's feel-good tv and I don't plan on disliking anyone. I'm snuggling down for kind warm feelings all the way.

If it's it first time on MN, you may not realise there's always a young woman that's dislike. 😃

Please note my first post on this year's thread. I knew it would be Lottie as soon as the camera landed on her. Long hair, pretty, make up (eyeliner too!!) and able. if she's in anyway decent she'll be 'arrogant' or 'full of her self'.

I think she might prove to be good and will be around for awhile. I also think Paul might zone in on her as his favourite.

Egghead68 · 26/09/2020 08:50

What did we think of the socially distanced an Extra Slice? I think it’ll take some getting used to.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/09/2020 08:51

I thought it was still funny. I'm glad Tom Allen is still in it.

Sleepinyourofficeinstead · 26/09/2020 09:27

Haha fair enough. I like that own your feelings for Lottie Grin

Been on MN a looong time but never on a bake off thread before. Usually lurk on the Feminism board it's clearly rubbing off on me! Blush I was huffing to my long-suffering DH last night that none of the heterosexual men chose a woman as their cake hero head thingy and I can't imagine many men choosing women. Then read comments about Lottie and it tipped me over the edge...

SerenityNowwwww · 26/09/2020 09:41

I only managed to see it with the sound down so missed lots. Will need to see it on catchup or rerun.

I still prefer pottery throwdown!

I thought it was terrible all round. Why can't we have people who like baking on it and fewer men. I usually like Tom Allen but even he wasn't funny.
Egghead68 · 26/09/2020 09:47

Yes - securely still worth watching. I’m going to have to get used to the elongated table though.
ppeatfruit · 26/09/2020 09:48

Mrs Kingfisher Yes the guy who's cakes were flattened didn't come over well.

Hello Schady How are you? Grin

Sleepin I'm inclined to agree with you about the pretty girl with the pony tail and escaped strands of hair (should she wear a net?) , but as it's GBBO it should be cosy and not bitchy. Though am I allowed to call Tom Allen bitchy ? Because he is Shock

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 26/09/2020 10:23

i enjoyed that,
matt lucas boris skit was fabulous.
the show was whizzing through, i guess because so many contestants.
surprised who left.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 26/09/2020 10:24

has there been comments about Dave being away from his pregnant wife and their imminent child?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/09/2020 10:39

I also think Paul might zone in on her as his favourite.

I am also expecting a small tsunami of excess testosterone to waft in her direction. However, I think she will be able to Deal With Him effectively. I don't think she'll be a counter-flirter like some of the "hot babes" are. I'm hoping she will keep him at a distance in a charming but definite manner that ensure he keeps his gonads to himself. I hate it when they flirt back.

Hello Schady How are you?

Greetings ppeat - I have a bad toe*, but am otherwise well.
(*Oh, how I suffer! Yet not a word of complaint! Grin)

I still prefer pottery throwdown!

I love pottery throw down, except I could slap Weepy Keef! He is the 8-year-old who keeps demanding everyone's attention at his baby sister's Christening. I know most people love him and think it's sweet, but it gives me the radge! Grin Keef'sTears are now as devalued as the Hollywood Handshake IMO.

Over600Ecalypts · 26/09/2020 10:53

Ah, knew there'd be a thread this year!

Showing my age here but I thought the Freddie Mercury cake looked like Frank Sidebottom.

iklboo · 26/09/2020 10:57

Dave really should have gone & spoken to her or given her a hug (or maybe he did and they cut it). Him sitting on his stool surrounded by other guys talking about her just made him look like a schoolboy having a tantrum about it. It was a clear accident, he was in her blind spot and she was distraught. It totally took the shine off her winning the challenge. And his cakes were crap anyway.

KurriKawari · 26/09/2020 10:59

Also maybe don't stand behind someone with a tray of delicately balanced cakes.
